KARK/KLRT Losing Two Anchors
KLRT/KARK are losing a couple of anchors. Arkansas Online reports KARK weekend anchor Shannon Miller is leaving the station WVIT-TV in New Britain, Conn. Over at KLRT, weekend anchor Josh Berry is leaving for WOLO-TV in Columbia, S.C. KLRT/KARK News Director Austin Kellerman says their replacements will be announced by the end of the week.
Former Little Rock News Director Buys Media News Website
Former KARK/Channel 4/Little Rock news director Rick Iler has bought the TV News insider website NEWSBLUES. TV Spy reports Iler bought the site from Mike James who was going to shut the site down later this year. Iler currently resides in Houston, TX with his daughter and plans to keep the site up and going with some changes. Iler was news director at KARK from 2001-2005.
Longtime Arkansas Broadcast Set to Retire
Doug Krile has announced he will retire this summer. Krile is the current President of the Arkansas Broadcasters Association. Arkansas Business reports Krile plans on retiring following the ABA's convention in July. Krile started out in radio but is best know for his 11 year stint at KARK/Channel 4 as an anchor/reporter. He left that position in 1997 for a corporate job at Equity Broadcasting in Little Rock. Krile has led the ABA the past 7 years.
KLRT Names New Weekend Met
KLRT/Channel 16/Little Rock has named Kelly Dobeck as its new weekend meteorologist. Dobeck comes to Little Rock from WRDW, Augusta, Ga. Arkansas Online reports Dobeck will begin at KLRT in June.
Sinclair Broadcasting Buys Tribune Stations
There will soon be less competition in TV broadcasting as Sinclair Broadcasting has announced it will buy Tribune Media for 3.9 billion dollars. Sinclair is the parent company of KATV/Channel 7/Little Rock. There is one tribune station in Arkansas and it's KFSM/Fort Smith/Fayetteville. The deal announced this morning does include 42 tribune tv stations and the WGN cable channel
