God no Chris May, you're so much better than that.

He was in town but I'm not sure about Fox. KATV is looking for an anchor.

With Channel 7's latest ratings, they must be scambling to try and reassemble there anchor teams from the glory years. Will Karen Fuller be back as well?? Dale really screwed up when he let Mosler and Mayberry go from the morning show. That really pissed alot of people off.

Note to Dale: 1. Bring back Bob Steel 2. Bring back Chris May and Karen Fuller 3. Get rid of that God awful morning program - good lord, your making KARK look good!

I feel that channel 7 is making a mistake with their main week day anchors. Their weekend news anchor needs to leave. She reminds me of a stray dog, she just keeps hanging around!

They will pay with the loss of ratings.

I couldn't see Karen Fuller going back to LR... although KCTV (where she's at now) is notorious for bad labor and massive turnover here in KC, I can't see them letting her go anytime soon.

Chris May would do well back in Little Rock. He was extremely well-liked.

Good call on the first post - Chris, don't be like Doug Krile. Leaving KARK to go work for Neal Ardman was the biggest mistake he ever made, and his career has never rebounded. If Chris comes back, I hope he sticks w/ KATV.

Why would he want to go to the station in decline? Why not go to the station on the rise?

Is he coming back to Little Rock?

Can't have any holy rollers on the air! Better to have drunk, cheating, rude, girlfriend/wife abusing snobs and jerks on the air - right???

As for Karen, she will never come back here - she has moved on to bigger and better things.

Scott is doing a great job - much better than Chris.

The morning KATV talent if good - they are not the problem - it's the managment and the fact that they won't format the show with any creativity and use qualified behind the scenes people.

If they need to get rid of anyone it's that screeching Renee Shaprio!

"As for Karen, she will never come back here - she has moved on to bigger and better things."

Much like Andy Pearson did when he left for Nashville.....right??

Bottom line: You never know!

Remember she did get fired and sued and got her job back!!!

1:17 must work at KATV....haha...better hope Renee Shapiro doesn't find out who's mad at her!:)

You guys may think Scott Inman is the man....but, he's never outperformed Chris May. I'm not a big Chris May guy either....but the numbers don't lie.

Scott is smooth with a great voice. In my opinion however...he does his best work with ARSN, and was good as a sports anchor. In my opinion he doesn't connect well with the viewers. It's hard to explain.....you don't warm up to him.

You KATVers are very proud of him I know. I know he fits in quite well with the other egos in the newsroom..and you may laugh me off..but I'm telling you....he's not gonna take you back to the promised land as the lead anchor! He's a good talent..but not that type of talent!

Don't laugh too hard unless you can prove me wrong!!

Andy Pearson is no where near the talent that Karen is and he grew - if you know what I mean.

She on the other hand WILL remain professional!

Why are so many of you soooooooo in love with Chris May and Beth Hunt - they are ok at best!

At 3:16 PM, June 22, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

3:11......oh please! Don't rewrite history. He was THE MAN during his KATV stint!! Yea he may be a little overgrown now, and may not be as sharp as he was then...but he, Gina, and Betsy just flat got it done back in a day!

At 3:21 PM, June 22, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Karen Fuller got stale in my opinion...and I think Andy has reached that point now. But, back when he was at 7....he and Gina were magical. Don't get me wrong....THV is lucky to have him, and they have done well. But, he hasn't taken them to a dominant level like he did KATV.

side note: I think THV misses Dawn Scott. She really helped launch their resurgence. I wish they could bring her back!

Not a chance getting Dawn Scott back. Isn't she off as a pharmacutical sales rep raking in the money while her rich husband doctor patches up crack babies?

so let's all go re-live the past!!!!

No Thanks!

FOX16 doesn't want Chris May...Kevin Kelly is so much better than Chris every thought of being. You guys can dog on FOX16 all you want but the matter is they have grown a lot in the first 2 years on the air. KARK is about to get passed by them. FOX16 gets out in the market and gets the stories... To bad the market is not a meter market. The funny thing is most of managerment at KATV watch FOX!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fox is competition... on the revenue level. However, if they ever had a 10pm news slot going against 7 & 11 it would be no contest. So, they can build on there news at nine if they want. With the on-air talent they have, --very stiff and without personality, they wouldn't compete at 5, 6 or 10. Now, if they had better talent, it might be different. Donna is the best one they have, but she's not as good as Christina or Anne. She might be better than Liz and Jancey. She (Donna) comes across as being "too good for Arkansas" The sports guy is what... 9 or 10???

I remember back about 6 years ago, I was talking with Larry Potter, the Pine Bluff cameraman for KATV. We talked about several things going on at KATV, all of which he freely talked about. It was a very friendly, informative chat. But when I turned the conversation to Pamela Smith, Potter turned stoned faced and didn't say another word. Didn't even flinch. I asked what was wrong, and finally I got a "No Comment." That told me right there that word had come down from King Dale that no one at the station was to discuss Smith since she had been reinstated and it further told me that Smith was probably going to be weekend anchor there for as long as she wanted to........She still is.

Speaking as an outsider, you haven't proven anything. No numbers, no audience reaction quotes; just speculative opinions that you seem to believe everyone holds. I hate to shatter the illusion for you, but...I don't share your opinion. I hope you're sitting down so as not to injure yourself.

I like Scott on 7 and Andy on 11. I don't really ever watch 4 or 16, so I can't comment on their on-air performance. But I'm not going to be so narrow-minded as to declare them all hopeless and incapable of doing their jobs.

I remember Chris May when he was at 7 and thought he did a great job. It's too bad Boston didn't work out for him, but if he wants to come back to the area, any station that hires him will be lucky to get him.

Competition is a healthy thing. Continual sniping over the most petty crap imaginable is not. This blog is moving towards the petty crap area.

4:46am- If KATV wants to get back to where they were with all the newscasts...that is posting ratings that are better than everyone else combined in all shows....Scott Inman isn't gonna be the lead anchor. I am not anti-Scott Inman...I just think he and Christina both were promoted out of KATV's fear of losing them....not because the audience, or their on-air personalities...."cried out" for them to be lead anchors.

I think sports anchor and reporter were perfect for them. Scott is also excellent on ARSN football broadcasts with the scoreboard show.

I love KATV, miss how good they once were, and long for them to bring back the glory. That's why I am disappointed with the current anchor team and know that they need a change if they are once again going to make a laughing stock of everyone else.

8:00am--I don't disagree with you, but I think the problem isn't necessarily with the anchors. It's with the people doing the hiring. Ever since Karen Fuller left, it seems like they've been trying to find her twin. Kate Sullivan was close, and I really liked her, but let us not forget the unfortunate incident known as Krista Platzer.

In my opinion, Scott Inman does a great job. I think he's better than Cary Martin was, anyway. When Scott and Kate anchored the 5 and 6, I had neighbors commenting that they liked those two and Channel 7 was becoming worth watching again. (True, the anchors can't do all the work...if they have nothing to report, what's the point of even being in front of the camera?) Blame falls on the news director and whoever else puts together the newscasts.

My point is, whoever's doing the hiring at 7 obviously isn't listening to their audience. They keep trying to foist people on the viewers that no one can relate to and have minimal journalistic skills (again...Krista Platzer). It might be helpful if they'd actually listen to the people on the resume tapes instead of paying attention to only their looks. If they can't read or connect with the camera, they're not going to be worth much as an anchor.

Scott Inman might not be everyone's cup of tea, but he must be doing something right ratings-wise or he'd have been yanked by now. You'll notice the lack of male reporters at 7 anymore.

I agree with this post about
Pam Smith. It is a shame that you are able to keep a job because of the color of your skin. If you are not a good reporter/anchor you should be let go no matter what color your skin is.

If you think Dawn Scott is the reason 11 surged, you need to look at your ratings history.

The surge began in November of '98, then through '99. It surged again in 2000. Channel 11 had two important hires in those years.

Dawn's a nice lady and good reporter, but the tale of the numbers will give you your answer.
The raging rumor in local sales departments is that Dawn will be back at the first of the year at 11. This wouldn't be based on her popularity with the audience, but with Channel 11 management's love affair with her. That would be bad news for either Massey or Jansen.

With few if any exceptions, Channel 7 does not take back former on-air employees. If you can think of one, post it.

If Chris May is coming back, look for it at 4 or 11 with 11 being the favorite since Channel 4 management is cheap. That would be bad news for Pearson.

That's just plain ignorant. Have you even SEEN the weekend ratings especially the Sunday 10?! Maybe, just maybe Pam is an anchor because she is really good and does a great job. Sounds to me like you're just hating on her Because of the color of her skin.

Pam Smith reads the news so darn slow it puts me to sleep. Maybe that's why people watch, so they don't have to take a sleeping pill.

Vic Schedler also had more than one stint at KATV. He went to KARK for a while, and came back.

Pamela smith is the sorriest excuse for a news anchor that i have ever seen she stays at 7 because of a lawsuit filed that said she was terminated because of her race. now she has a job for life. she must be awful proud of herself. and 99%of all her reports are on black subjects. i am not a racist just call it as i see it

At 4:23 PM, August 28, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If you were fired and then rehired because of a law suit, it seems to me that the powers that be would not be too pleased to have you back on the team. With that being said I think there's a pretty good chance that Pam gets the stories that are given to her, and if katv is giving the black stories to Pam because of the color of her skin that is a shame. The news is the news.

I can't stand any of those mofo's at 7. From the top to the bottom. Especially that PASTY a-s dale nicholson. He's a total bigot and every one around him knows it. He called pam smith a colored bitch to his good ole boys down there. and it got out. Now talk about that! Ole NED boy is just as bad!

I agree Pamela Smith is terrible. In the black community she tries to make herself better than others.
