Election Run-off Coverage
Looks as though KATV is missing out on much of the news tonight. While KARK and KTHV are covering the election results, airing victory speeches and consolation speeches, KATV is stuck with the Dallas/Miami playoff basketball game. Will say KATV did air on-going results as they came in.

KATV's results were slow, too. Maybe their staffers were watching the game instead of getting numbers?
KARK easily had the best coverage.
Nobody cares about elections...just the 3 people that voted.
I watched "The Deadliest Catch" 100% election free. Woke up and read the paper. What do ya know, I didn't miss a thing.
As much as I hate to say it, I agree. I just scanned our web hits from last night over here in NWA and no one, and I mean no one, cared.
On the contrary, you could say that KATV actually won the evening. I'm sure the NBA Finals drew way more local viewers than the miniscule viewers who cared about the runoffs. After all, a Dallas team is playing, which makes the NBA just about as local as it can get.
Plus the game went down to the wire - there's more excitement in that than watching local talking heads sputter over words and draw uneducated conclusions over politics.
Elections are one of those stories news rooms feel obligated to blow out of the water. People don't give a crap about them. If they did, they'd vote.
Some of us (thousands actually) DID vote.
And some of us like frisbee golf, but you don't see that dominating news coverage.
Frisbee golf does not affect everyone in the state. The outcome of the elections DOES.
As far as positive changes in the state frisbee golf does effect as many people as last nights election. It's like deciding if you're going to wash your clothes in either Tide or Cheer. They're both owned by Proctor and Gamble.
I wish there was an option for none of the above.
Did Channel 11 know there was an election? KARK 4 clearly outshined them all.
It doesn't matter if it affects everyone in the state. Few people care. The reason? It's listening to a bunch of ego-driven drivel that makes no difference once the winner sits in their chair.
Do you really think all that hot air from Halter about what he'll do once in office will come close to coming true? He's promising things the governor can't do, let alone the LG.
"Outshined" is relative to the content.
"It doesn't matter if it affects everyone in the state. Few people care."
They might not care about Iraq either, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't cover it. Yes, politicians do blow a lot of hot air, but politics and government are still subjects that must be covered. Everyone pays taxes, that in turn will pay the salaries of elected officials, who in turn decided how the rest of our tax dollars are spent.

Good to know KARKers read and contribute to this blog.:) They sure don't contribute to the ratings!
How about this:
Nobody cares! It's the PRIMARIES! This election affects NOTHING!!!!
I mean, seriously, people. It only serves one purpose, and that's to drive the respective traffic departments batty with all of the late adds and volume.
I think we'd get a better draw if we allowed candidates to duke it out in a ring and the winner gets the office.
"It's the PRIMARIES! This election affects NOTHING!!!!"
Wrong again. Voting in the primaries determines who will be the candidates in the general election, which affects everything. If you don't vote in the primaries, you have no right to complain about the quality of candidates later on.

Ouch! Did someone at KTHV have his/her feelings stepped on? quite possibly who may have been in charge of the poor election coverage?
Yes KARK did have the best coverage. I was channel surfing for numbers and they provided them. There coverage was also very good at 10:00. No I don't work there.

Thats impossible - there was NO ONE in charge.
