Paulson Headed to KFOR/KAUT in OKC

As reported yesterday KARK reporter Earnie Paulson is leaving the station after 6 years. Here's an e-mail Earnie sent to ATN Thursday evening:

"My last day at KARK is next Thursday and my first day at KFOR/KAUT in OKC is Wednesday, June 28th. I'll be anchoring the 9pm newscast Monday through Friday.
I have worked with many talented people at KARK over the years and still do. I am leaving behind family and several close friends here in Arkansas and will miss them dearly. My wife is from Arkansas, so it will always be my second home."

Ernie did a great job. It's not that LR is a bad market. It's just that Nexstar doesn't know how to manage stations. They will continue to lose people. Good people.

I am really happy for Ernie and OKC is lucky to have such a talented person come to town. As far as Nexstar they have always made poor decisions. I worked for a station that was taken over by them in 1998 and then once again here in LR when they took over KARK. They say they have no money but spend a few hundred thousand on a set in a 140 market and then spend money for plasma tv for their set at KARK. It is not the set that makes a station, it is the people that work there. Without production and engineering they would not have a station. Since they took over i have seen some dear friends move on because Nexstar was too stupid to realize how talented they all were. Nexstar, take care of the people you got.

I'm very happy for Earnie. I was so disappointed when they took him off the morning show. He, Mike and the girl before Barbara were really good together. Barbara was ok with them, but when they took Earnie out they really screwed up.

I think it's great that in KARK Little Rock has a gay local channel, but it's equally as obvious that Earnie did not fit into that mold. I'm happy for him and wish him the best. I doubt he'll miss that bunch of friends of Dorothy he was working with.

Hey Ernie.....give Kevin Ogle a pat on the head and tell him it's from his old friend in Little Rock. He'll know who you are talking about.:)

Spend time with that guy. He's everything a station could want in a lead anchor. Kevin makes KFOR a good place to work!

If ernie is so talented why is he making a sideways slide rather than a jump- dude you are not as good as you think you are! Good luck in the middle of the road!

For Your information:

KFOR is the 3rd most watched NBC affiliate in the country. One of the best TV stations in the U.S.

8:40p......OKC is market #40....right behind Memphis....57 to 40 is a nice jump..and worth the move!

As for KFOR....I agree that is a good station...but they have always played second fiddle to 9News (KWTV)!

2nd fiddle!?! Wow, I guess being #1 @ 5,6 and 10 is a pretty good second fiddle. KFOR and Mike Morgan are the Kings of OKC, Mike dethroned Gary England single handedly on May 3rd 1999.

KOCO is #1 at five due to a good lead in from Oprah and KFOR and KWTV are essentially tied for first place at six and ten. KFOR having a nine o'clock news on their sister station will help them take a good lead in news. That will give them news from 5 am - 7 am, updates throughout the today show, and more news from noon - 1pm, 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm, 6 pm - 7 pm, and 9pm - 10:35 pm. No station in that market offers more news for their viewers. That's pretty damn impressive. And I guarantee you that KOKH Fox 25 is shaking in their boots right now. I bet they are already getting beat in the ratings since Cherokee Ballard started the program on Monday.

Hey btw... OKC is market #45.

They moved Ernie to nights because he's good at putting people to sleep... and that doesn't work on a morning show

Jorje Ryan doesn't know what he's talking about. While it's true KOCO wins the 5, thanks the oprah and dr. phil, at 10 it's a different story. KOCO loses half their lead in by 10pm. KFOR is NOT tied at 10 with KWTV. KWTV consistantly wins the 10 pm newscast and in May it became the most watched late news in the country. KFOR is at least 5 points behind.
