KARK Met Off to KNWA
This from the tip box: "KNWA has hired Dan Skoff as their new Chief Meteorologist, replacing Rick Katzfey at the end of June."
Additional: Press Release from KNWA:
KNWA-TV / KFTA-TV today announced the appointment of Dan Skoff as Chief Meteorologist.. The announcement was made by Blake Russell, Vice President and General Manager of the television stations.
“We're very excited to have Dan joining our team,” said Mr. Russell. “His years of forecasting experience in Arkansas and his credentials bring a unique knowledge of weather to Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. Dan's background should really stand out to our viewers, especially during severe weather.”
"I'm really excited to become a member of the KNWA-TV weather team," said Mr. Skoff. "Northwest Arkansas' growth is tremendous and I can't think of a more vibrant place I would like to live and work."
Mr. Skoff has been the weekend meteorologist at KARK-TV in Little Rock since 2003. Both KNWA-TV and KARK-TV are owned by Nexstar Broadcasting. "This move shows Nexstar's commitment to promoting people within our company," said Mr. Russell. "Since Little Rock is the biggest television market in the state, Dan gained first rate experience at KARK-TV."
Mr. Skoff is a one-of-a-kind meteorologist in Arkansas. He's the only Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in the state. To earn the certificate, he passed a difficult 100 question exam given by the American Meteorological Society. Only 141 other meteorologists in the country have earned this prestigious certification.
Before working in Little Rock, Mr. Skoff was the weekend meteorologist at the NBC affiliate in Amarillo, TX. He's originally from Milwaukee and earned his bachelor of science degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma, but is ready to call the Hogs.
He and his wife Jennifer are also the proud parents of a 19-month-old daughter, Callie Grace.

Somehow I don't see this being a step-up since he's moving to a smaller market even if he is going to be chief met....
Dan apparently heard there were more opportunities to forecast a winter storm in northwest Arkansas!
This sounds like this wasn't the dude's choice.
Poor guy.
Dan... congrats on the new position. I wish you all of the best. By the way, congrats on the CBM!
Wow...all 3 chief mets in NWA now under 30!
Dan,
Congratulations on the new position, it is a step up, although a smaller market. It is an exploding market in NWA. I have to say that you are probably in terms of knowing your stuff, you are the best MET in the state. Too bad there wasn't an opening at KARK. Also, congrats on being a dad. Take care.
Sad to see him go! Good luck!!
It was totally his choice. You guys apparently don't know how this works: If you want to become chief or anchor, sometimes you go to a smaller market to do it. It is very hard to move into one of these coveted positions within the same market. It is more likely that the higher ups will move a small market chief into a larger market chief position rather than promoting the weekend guy to chief. I'm not saying it's right, but that's how it works. Dan is making a very smart move. With the growth in NWA, that area will probably be a larger market than LR soon. Dan will be sorely missed, but NWA is gaining a great & talented meteorologist.
Dan kicks ass. He's one of the best meteorologists I've ever worked with and he knows his stuff. He doesn't phone it in like some "chief" meteorologists who couldn't even forecast a snowstorm back in 2004 and ended up coming in late because he was DELAYED by the snow! LOL
I saw that new weather lady for the first time on channel 5 today.
Her presence isn't the greatest, but she's pleasing to look at. Just so friendly and cute. She looks like she's going to improve a lot within the next couple weeks.
KNWA and 40/29 better watch out! Channel 5 will continue to lead when it comes to weather! (and news too).
"like some "chief" meteorologists who couldn't even forecast a snowstorm back in 2004"
Was this the chief that forecasted a WINTER STORM!!!!
This is Garrett's market...he knows how to properly forecast a WINTER STOOOOORRRMMM!
KNWA made a great hire. Dan is a great meteorologist.
LAME STORRRRRM!
Dan may be good, but let's not forget that KNWA News was tied with the "Tony Danza Show" in the last book losing to KFSM by as much at 13 rating points and KHBS by as much as 8.
Where's KARK in the LR book...1st, 2nd, or 3rd?
Don't "skoff" at Dan!!!!!
SKOFF STOOOORM!
I think Garrett has some mjor league competition now. No more KNWA cutting in late or not cutting in at all for severe weather. I know Dan...he will likely be the first on the air and won't leave the station until the threat is over. The man is hardcore when it comes to severe weather.
Hardcore Nerd. Dan, just stop blogging about yourself already. Your starting to sound like WIN.
I don't ever post AWESOME things about myself.
Dan
Dan can cut-in all he wants on KNWA... TOO BAD NO ONE'S WATCHING!!!
KARK's loss is northwest Arkansas's gain.
Good luck up there Dan!
Oh my gosh, Dan's going to be there! He was in a class or two ahead of me at OU!
I have to admit letting Katzfey go is hard to rap my mind around, BUT I was in Little Rock during a storm not to long ago and was OVERLY impressed with Mr. Skoff. He knows his stuff and can explain it for all to understand...he has an urgency to warn viewers and a heart to keep people safe. KNWA made a great hire with Dan Skoff...I don't think they'll find a replacement for Don Elkins, but Dan will benefit that station and hopefully Neile Jones wont run all over him like shedoes the rest of the KNWA crew.
CONGRATS MR. SKOFF! WELCOME TO NWA
Traveling during severe weather? The heart to help the people?
COME ON DAN,ENOUGH.
Youre a dork, everyone knows it. You're Marc Weinburg. Alittle fatter, and red cheeked.
Don't act like Little Rock is the storm center of the world? TVJOBS wants a 4 year exp. guy to fill his spot??? WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD DO WEEKENDS W/ 4years experience in LR? Good luck on that!!!
He passed a 100-question test to get that title? I am laughing my ass off here. Have you seen the test!
You look outside and seen the ground is wet and everything is rather dark. Should you tell your viewers the weather is:
a) sunny
b) windy
c) rainy
d) throw it back to the anchor
^^^^ Ignorant
As someone else who has taken and passed that 100 question test, I can assure you that the questions are much harder than that. Dan is probably one of the few mets in LR that would pass. I doubt Ned Perme or Ed Buckner would.
As someone else who has taken and passed...if you paid attention in college. You'll pass.
And as also someone else who passed.... agreed. If you got decent grades in college... not hard.
Same here. I took the test and passed back in November. The exam is very difficult and deals with topics in dynamic and thermodynamic meteorology, severe weather, satellite and radar meterology...etc. This is a real accomplishment for him. I can assure you...if you don't know your stuff, and I mean KNOW it, it will eat you alive.
Hey everyone you can See Barbara Roberts at this website @ www.naughtynerd.com she look very good in her new attire so i encourage everyone to see her their!
If I was going from market 57 to market 104, it's hardly something I'd be bragging about - whether I'm the talent moving or the station bringing the talent in - especially within an organization like Nexstar, whose stock has almost no value whatsoever. I would think it would behoove talent to move *UP* not down.
Sometimes people just do what they have to do.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dan at Riverfest where our booths were placed in close proximity of one other. He couldn't have been a nicer guy, and I walked away VERY impressed. NW AR may be a smaller market, but it IS a rapidly growing one. I wish him nothing but great success, and I have no doubt he'll do quite well for himself.
"Sometimes people just do what they have to do."
Or sometimes people just do what they're told by the idiot brass at Deathstar . . . . . I mean Nexstar.
I hardly think this was Dan's decision.
Of course, what do you expect when you work for a publicly traded company whose stock price is currently at a whopping $5.16?
Get out of Arkansas because this is a boring retirement agricultural state any way and it really ain't nothing here to do anyway!
"Or sometimes people just do what they're told by the idiot brass at Deathstar . . . . . I mean Nexstar.
I hardly think this was Dan's decision."
DUH! I think that's what "Sometimes people just do what they have to do" means.
Based on his bio, the guy has a young family. If they offered him more money to become chief at KNWA, it is a good move. The station isn't really a player, but the quality of life around Fayetteville beats the heck out of Little Rock.
I wish Dan would've taken that darn Mike Francis' place.. That guy is crazier than a craphouse rat!
