in time for May sweeps a new reporter is on the streets for KARK,
Channel 4/Little Rock. Jocelyn Tovar comes to KARK from KTXS/Abilene,
Texas where she was the stations crime/courr. According to her bio at KARK's website, she has also
worked as a Washington, D.C. correspondent for KFDX-TV in Wichita Falls,
Texas.

Why would she leave a large market likr DC to work in a smaller market like Little Rock?
She was probably a graduate student. Big J schools like Northwestern and Syracuse work out deals with smaller markets. They shoot pkgs in D.C. and are called 'Capitol Correspondents.' I did it when I was in grad school for a station in Wyoming. It's a good deal for the students because they get to make a reel with D.C. stuff that actually airs in a real market. Good luck Jocelyn!

Usually a one year mastsrs program isn't incredibly expensive...even at a big j school. They often give you a chance to TA a lower level class to get some money. Sometimes they'll even give you a stipend.
Exactly 10:33. She probably worked for KFDX out of their Nexstar sister station WHAG in Hagerstown Maryland which is in the #8 Washington DC market.

Ok, if you read the article, she is coming to LR from Abilene, which is where the new ND is from. LR is a larger market than Abilene.
Man, I bet it's a weird vibe around the KARK newsroom. First they bring in a ND from Abilene TX? WTF? That market is a joke... like DMA 160+. Then he goes and gets a reporter from there. Horrible! What's that say to the staff? They were doing well just a little while back. Now, no more Mike Francis, Melissa Simas. That sucks! Is Jancey still around? Man... Bad move News Director!
I looked at her tape. Actually, looks like a good hire. Better than anything at kTHV.
Last time I checked noone at THV had a lead pkg on their resume reel without sound bites on the hard hitting topic of a snake pit at a county fair. Give me a break. She'll be another perfect 'investigator' for that last place tabloid TMZ wannabe station. I'm tired of people saying THV talent sucks without pointing out how god awful the on-air people at for are.

I think 7s is the best but THV's is the most underrated and could catch them soon. 4 and Fox have the worst.

I would say 7,4,11 and then 16 as an overall group. Anchor teams 7,4,16 and then 11.
I think 7 & 4 are close at the top then a HUGE drop to Fox & 11.

Whats with Channel 4 doing meaningless fluff to start the book and Channel 7 doing actual journalism....i feel like its normally the other way around.
How would channel 4 know if they were in a book or not? They claim not to care.
"Officially" we don't care. "Unofficially" we actually do care. Managers talk about it and keep a close eye it.
It's how they calculate how much they charge advertisers. Just because they don't subscribe, doesn't mean they don't fight for increased ratings. That's what the advertisers are looking for.
Is it just me or has KARK's news coverage been somewhat lacking and KATV'S better?
I am not generally a 7 fan and still can't stand their morning show, but I switched over to them for evenings and have been pleasantly surprised. I like Beth Hunt and I also enjoy most of their reporters. Losing Rup was an addition by subtraction imo.

What's up with KARK's 4's "investigative" reporting of a Church in Vilonia problems with an insurance company and Adam's best control.
It sounds like based on the reporters comments and the Anchor's comments they did the story then tried on Sunday to contact the insurance company and Adam's Pest control. However they could not get in touch with the people. If this is really case the reporter an news director at 4 should be fired for letting this go to air. Those groups would not be able to respond properly on a Sunday. The report sounded very one sided even before this.
I am sure Adam's who is very big around here would have tried to respond if the had the appropriate notification.
Word is the news director at 4 is openly contacting other station's talent and offering more money.

I thought 7's reporters didn't have contracts. Or is that changed? I don't know if they have any good reporters or not, but I am pretty sure they used to not have any contracts.
Hey I don't blame the guy - it's not the first time this market has inter-poached. And if there is one thing that remains constant around here - it's reporters whining about how little money they make. Sounds like he's taking the right approach, and it might pay off.
I'm sure Albritton can pay more than Nexstar.
remember Jessica Dean did not have a noncompete contract and left 7 for 4 in a short time frame.

That is not disgusting. It is the truth. If you have a problem with that, you should really go into another business. And yes, when your "hotness" fades, you will be replaced - and probably by a young inexperienced beauty queen (See Alyse Eady).
How many "over-40" ladies do you see anchoring LR news? Yep, sounds like hotness is a big factor.

Melinda Mayo - over 40
Christina Munoz - looks over 40
Alyson Courtney - looks over 40
Pam Smith - was over 40
Liz Massey - looks over 40
So majority = under 40
These 20 somethings are attractive and will be in their 40's one day. If any of you ever go to any of the Top 5 markets, you will see that not all, but a majority of the anchors are 40 and older.
Aren't all of the anchors in LR at least 30 anyway?
Alyse is 23 and Ashley is 28. They are the young anchors.
Chris Kane is 12.
Alyson Courtney and Liz Massey are not over 40. Not sure about Munoz, but she looks to be in her mid 30's too.
Chris Kane looks older than he is, but shows his age quite often during chit chat. Especially next to Melinda, who literally has children older than him.
is it any wonder why we are losing viewers every day? when we put barbie dolls next to respected news men (Jessica Dean/Bob Clausen), how are people expected to take us seriously?
Smaller markets have younger anchors who are working their way up.
