So This is Arkansas Today.....

Off work today so I thought I would check out Arkansas Today. Please note I am watching KTAL Channel 6 via cable.

Right off I notice all local branding is gone BUT I switch to KARK and well they have their logo in every corner. KTAL's ticker is down on the bottom of the screen but no sign it is KTAL we are watching.

In the first news block there were several stories from Southwest Arkansas. None from Northwest Louisiana or Northeast Texas....

Right now during weather, the severe weather in Northeast Texas was pointed out. No mention of the severe storms that marched over North Louisiana last night. Now a weather cut in with KTAL Met Patrick Dennis. Really? I feel like I am watching one of the national morning news programs. Let's wait for sports!

Now more local news. Now reading posts from Facebook. Is this a news program or an opinion show. And now they are giving away prizes if you LIKE their facebook page...

And now to an Arkansas Nation report. Wonder how many people in Louisiana and Texas are actually watching? ..or care about Arkansas sports.

Okay the clashing of the graphics has got my attention now. KTAL doesn't have the same graphics as KARK and KARK's lower thirds are clashing with the cheap looking KTAL news ticker. KARK's graphics are slick...KTAL's dull..

Is there any news happening today? Not one LIVE shot from any reporter. I thought they were going to have numerous sat trucks and LIVE vans on the road.

Oh, a Louisiana Lottery promo..the only way I know I am watching KTAL....

Oh now we have a news cut in from an anchor at KTAL...just giving us headlines...YAY there is someone working in the newsroom in Shreveport. All promos for the evening newscasts. geez.

And now KTAL goes into paid programming.. Paid programming midday, sounds like a sign of desperation.

Did you seriously expect something better? Nexstar is in financial trouble and this whole thing reeks of desperation.

Trying to save money by a poor mkt consolidation. Hmmm...sounds like this is the wave of the future for Nexstar. First the MCO's ...next.. they'll downsize news staff.

But hey...we're saving MONEY PERRY!

And thats all that matters. Damn everyone as long as Perry gets his nut.

Actually I can see Nexstar having only one newsroom run out of KARK for all the "hub" stations. I'm sure its been discussed. Plus it would be a natural progression. First the Traffic department and the Business Office were moved to KARK in February 2009. Then Master Control followed in July 2011.

I kind of feel bad for the people that work at 4. It seems to me that most of the folks at KARK care about their job and want to do well. Bob and Jessica are solid, Jessica is a very nice person in real life, weather guy (forgot name) is new, but has some potential, Wendy and Mallory are beautiful, promo stuff is pretty intense but looks damn good! But no rating information, no AP???? WTF??? And then...Statewide news with people that have NO BUSINESS on TV?!! (every reporter on the other stations) Why? I know it's about money, but how much money can you be making from that CRAP?

Hey Nexstar...While KARK was busy working their poor butts off on that horrible statewide newscast, we here at 7, 11 and 16 were busy focusing on kicking your ass with content people care about!! ha!

Good job to the folks at 4 but your company is really hurting your career.

Oh honey, you don't know the half of it. No one should work in this pressure cooker. As soon as my contracts up I'm out of here.

Have you asked to get out of it?

I saw Arkansas Today and I guess the good thing about it is that it was televised in HD on KTAL. But when they did local weather cut-ins with Dennis Patrick, the screen size and video quality went to crap. As a Shreveport viewer, I really didn't find anything about this newscast that meant anything to me. If you're into news about Razorback sports or Little Rock stuff, fine. But Texarkana-S'port. Nope. No value whatsoever. Guess the local advertisors must've gotten this dirt cheap because I can't see how they expect to build any local cume audience share with this stuff.
I betcha this could be the precursor to all "local news" on KTAL. Could the 5, 6 & 10pm and AM news be next? They could fire half the news staff and simply do "cut-ins" like KMSS does. Too bad but seeing how Nexstar does things, I can see this being strongly considered. The corporate cry must be screw the local community, save the dollar!

I watched some of the Arkansas today noon news show thinking it might include more local news at noon. Instead it was all Arkansas news. Why is this being aired on a local Shreveport station. I'm confused, are they no longer planning to do local news in Shreveport on channel 6?

Most likely yes 4:51.

Used to be that local TV licenses were granted to companies so long as they served the convenience and necessity of the local market. Now it's anything goes. Shame on you Nexstar.

You can always file a complaint with the FCC.

Like that ever gets anything done. The only time the FCC gets moving is if someone utters obscenities or has a wardrobe malfunction. I think the FCC mascot is a boar with tits.
