It's THV in......North Carolina
I received an email the other day from a former Arkansan living in North Carolina stating how former KTHV GM Larry Audas has brought the elements of THV to WFMY. Here are a few of the changes the viewer has made:
> First... News 2.0... (WFMY is
channel 2)... Next they put in a weather garden and re-did the news
sets... and starting this last week... a Today's THV style Good Morning
show. The former evening weather guy
is the main anchor for the new morning show... he probably has the most
personality at the station. The former morning anchors... one is now a
feature reporter, the other is the weekend morning show host along with
the former morning weatherman.
> A weather Garden!..I have no idea what the weather
gang thinks of the Weather garden either, but I know one got locked out
of the building before they figured out to put a swipe card on the back
of the weather clicker. Another keeps getting dive bombed by a
territorial bird and apparently they are close to a fire station because
every once in a while they get drowned out by sirens.
> Faith Abubey is here from LR, too.
> Audas has been bringing in new faces that seem to be an improvement over what they had.

So what is the consensus on the new GM at THV?
I certainly hope their Weather Garden is more "user-friendly" than the one THV has. Non-HD camera. Camera mounted on a pole that appears to be about 10 feet high. Shack that looks like a double wide cut in half and furniture that has to be torture to try and sit on. This station can take a few lessons from THV as to what not to do. Just sayin'
Really only two comments on this...
Here's a comment, though really not relevant to this post. Just an interesting observation while at lunch today. I'm having one of those big burgers for lunch at Cothams. A few tables away I notice the current news director at KATV - Nick G - having lunch with the former news director at KTHV - Mark Rains. Would love to have been a fly at that table. Wonder what that was all about. Makes one think.
It does?
Rains is their consultant at KATV.
He is? doubtful.
Nick and Mark are good friends. They worked together at KTHV. Mark has conducted a seminar or two for KATV's newsroom. But I'm sure it was just two friends having lunch and nothing much more to it.
Good gosh, what else would it have been?
Consultant. He is paid as a CONSULTANT!
I don't think he's a paid consultant. Just a sounding board. Geez, people, we're now making a big deal out of two people having lunch?
Nope, paid consultant.
Yep, paid consultant.
Ditto 12:10 and 6:58;he is indeed a paid consultant
Whomever is posting the "paid consultant" stuff is full of crap. I know both of them, they are friends. I'd bet they have more knowledge of the LR market than anyone out there. Out of all the LR stations, KATV doesn't need the consulting.
Was so funny friday night when it seemed all computer systems failed at the beginning of 11's 6:30 news. No packages, and at times it seemed no teleprompters. And all of this during sweeps.
I work at KATV, to my knowledge Mark Raines is NOT a paid consultant and I can state for a fact that he has not conducted any seminars here. I think Nick and Mark are just frieds, although I'm sure Nick does use Mark as a sounding board.
How is KATV going to the Destin? They must have a lot of money.
It's called Payola?
From what I've seen so far (and I live in the Greensboro market), the whole News 2.0 was all promotion and no change in content. Moving Eric Chilton to the Good Morning Show was a no brainer. He's the best hire there in decades (he grew up here). Haven't heard much on the street about Larry yet.
IN GREENSBORO, HOW ARE lARRY AND THE NEWS DIRECTOR GETTING ALONG?

I'm Ron Burgundy?
Doesn't everyone give some stuff away during sweeps? Is it all payola?
