Arkansan Returns to Home State....
For
ten years Laura Huckabee was a fixture on WGCL-TV in Atlanta, where she
worked as morning meteorologist for the CBS affiliate in the country’s
9th largest television market. While there, Huckabee periodically
traveled to New York City, where she delivered national forecasts for
the CBS Network’s Saturday morning broadcast.
“Laura
understands weather is the most important element in our morning
newscast,” said KHBS/KHOG-TV President and General Manager, Brian
Sather. “I’m confident from day one viewers will enjoy her comfortable
delivery and informative local forecasts.” According to 40/29 News
Director, Dawn Dugle, “Laura understands Arkansas and the surrounding
area’s weather and will be a great asset to the Sunrise team.”
A
native of Jonesboro, and graduate of Arkansas State University,
Huckabee’s 20 year career includes weathercasting positions at KAIT-TV
in Jonesboro, KARK-TV in Little Rock, KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, New
Mexico,
KUTV-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah, in addition to WGCL-TV in Atlanta. She
earned her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, and for the last two
years has been teaching advanced science courses to middle grade
students in the Atlanta metropolitan area. She’s
also worked as a freelance meteorologist for several Southeastern
television stations.
You can see Laura weekday mornings from 4:30 – 7:00 a.m. on
40/29 News Sunrise beginning May 14th.

KARK missed out. They should have hired her for their morning show. Moved Dee back to the weekend and canned the weekend girl---oops guy.
I did not say evening shows because I am trying to give the new guy a chance. I keep hoping that he will become more likable.

I like Keith, but I think KARK missed an opportunity. Could you imagine the buzz around town with Dean, O'Hara, and Huckabee? WOW!
I know KARK was talking to her two or three months ago. But that was right before the change in news management.

That is correct...Breanna and Rick have been filling in for mornings and weekends as of late until two new full time mets were found. They will actually be debuting two female meteorologists soon. One for mornings and one for weekends.

This is strange. A few questions come to mind:
1. How do they afford her?
2. Is Drew shaking in his boots about this?
3. Is she going to be Queen Bee when she arrives? I am sure of such.
Gag! Has she put on weight like the Huckster?
She has NO competition from the morning or night weather folks at KFSM! As a regular 40/29 viewer I am looking forward to hearing the weather for all of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma -- especially in the morning.

I don't care how much experience she has...If she's not "real" to the viewers, they'll see right through it. Their new promos with her have been laughable. Also, she'll definitely be tested in one of the hardest forecasting areas in the country. I still don't know why Matt Devitt left (he was great in the mornings and had great chemistry with the morning crew!). Huckabee, or skin and bones in a dress, will not have the greatest chemistry with Derek and Kelly, I can see it now. In case everyone hasn't heard, 40/29 and News Director Dawn Dugle are in big trouble with ratings as they have steadily declined over the past 2 years. The reason? Dawn Dugle I've heard from both former and current employees say she is a terrible boss and a nightmare to work for. I heard that if she didn't do something drastic to improve ratings (ie. signing Huckabee), she could lose her job. Let's hope that ratings either remain the same or continue to fall because Dawn Dugle has ALWAYS been the problem at 40/29 and she needs to go. Huckabee will definitely not save morning ratings, but may help to slow down a sinking ship.

I heard that about Dawn Dugle too! It's amazing how quick her negative reputation has spread around the news business...Several friends of mine at other news stations/companies know about her. If she does get fired due to poor ratings, good luck to her on trying to find a new job! It's going to be tough! I watched Huckabee this morning and she was solid, but as the other poster mentioned, she seemed EXTREMELY fake and not very personable. Viewers need to be able to relate to you Huckabee! Kelly and Derek are awesome, I love watching them in the morning! With all that money they paid for her, I expected a little better truthfully.
"Dang, when did Dawn fire you?" - I never worked at 40/29, but I'm a big news junkie and have lived in NWA for the past decade. I know a lot of the news people from all 3 stations and I've heard the worst so far from 40/29. They need to do something about Dawn Dugle or their ratings will drop to 3rd.
I miss Ross Ellet and Matt Devitt! They both made mornings enjoyable and informative...My kids loved them! Whatever happened to them? Thank goodness we still have Mr. Michaels. Huckabee is pretty good, but she needs to cover up a little bit more for her age. I have to turn away when I look at her arms. Yuck!
I knew Laura Huckabee in the Atlata area and she really is a sweet, caring Lady! Give her a chance!! There's nothing wrong in going back to your roots and being near Family, especially since she has a child to raise. Be nice!!

I FEEL SORRY for anyone who has to work under DAWN DUGLE.
Dawn Dugle is as UGLY on the inside as she is outside. She's EVIL, the most INCOMPETENT news director EVER, she treats her employees HORRIBLY, and she's the reason why 90 percent of KHBS/KHOG's newsroom staff has left.
A bit of advice for Anchors/ Reporters/Producers/Meteorologists, if you're looking for employment, and you happen to see the name "Dawn Dugle News Director" listed ANYWHERE, RUN as fast as you can and NEVER look back!
Believe me there's no amount of money listed on a contract worth working for Dawn Dugle.
I promise you'll regret signing any contract with her, I know I DO!
Dawn Dugle just got let go from KHBS/KHOG today! The staff there are literally crying tears of JOY! Karma is a b#$%@. Good luck finding a new job DUGLE! Smooches! :)

Laura is a dedicated,committed runner. She is as fit as anyone would want to be. How 'bout a healthy attractive woman who is close to her parents,siblings,nieces and nephews. Your gain is Atlanta's loss. Twenty three years ago I left a thriving Austin to be close to my parents,sisters,brother and 13 next generation-ers. Not one second of regret,
