40/29 Touts February Book Results

40/29 News (KHBS/KHOG-TV) continues to dominate news ratings in Northwest Arkansas, according to the latest Nielsen survey.

“40/29 beats the combined household ratings of KFSM and KNWA in most newscasts. KHOG was the first station to cover Northwest Arkansas, and we remain the news leader,” said Jim Prestwood, President/General Manager of 40/29 News. “We do our best to provide strong news and weather coverage, and we’re gratified the viewers of Northwest Arkansas respond to it.”

Mr. Prestwood, describes the station’s commitment: “40/29 News is the leading destination for local TV news in Northwest Arkansas, and our website, 4029TV.com, is the number 1 local TV website. Our mission is to serve our viewers with live, local, late breaking coverage in every newscast, and to serve our advertisers by delivering an audience they simply can’t find anywhere else.”

Wow, did anyone notice KNWA's morning ratings? You want to talk about sad, that's sad. Surprised to see 40/29 doing so well, though. I would have thought that KFSM would have mornings while KNWA would have 10pm. Surprised. Really surprised.

well you know KNWA will be touting strength in their specific target area of Benton and Washington Counties. where are those numbers?

Can someone post the overall numbers? We all know 40/29 is number one in two counties, and KNWA is flatlining, but what about the entire market.

Silly 40/29 people..you would think a news station could get their facts straight. The market includes more than two counties. I see those 40/29 cars in Madison county all the time. If they aren't covering news, then they must be selling meth.

Lots of latebreaking (sic) news in those counties.

Latebraking (sic), now there's an original slogan.

What about their commitment to the River Valley? When are they going to announce that they are moving their main operation to Northwest Arkansas. They will then only have a "newsroom" in Ft. Smith. Not to take up for KNWA but 40/29 talked more trash about the fact that they moved to NWA then anyone else. The truth is KFSM is king down south and KNWA has cut into KHOG's audience in NWA.

Look at the demo numbers and you will see that KFSM is even weaker and the biggest jump is KNWA. KHOG is still the obvious choice for NWA but KNWA is doing what they set out to do. They better get their AM show people in place though. They need to hire and maintain a morning team. KHOG has lost ground up noth but are still the leaders.

the market-wide ratings numbers show that KFSM leads in all timeslots by a significant margin. That is great that KHOG can win in four counties... congratulations. I agree that KFSM does need work in NWA and it will come up in time. But... the 8 county river valley area still has people and still has money and still needs its news. KFSM is the only station that cares about the river valley and the ratings show it. KFSM is the successful station because it caters to both.

It never catered to NWA until KNWA made the move. I have a tape of all newscasts for several days prior to KNWA making the switch. There was a total of less than 5 stories from NWA on KFSM in a week. They have figured out that they were so unbalanced before but now have started making Ft. Smith viewers unhappy by over doing it on NWA stories. They are still #3 in NWA and will never catch up with the product they put on the air. KHOG will always rule NWA.

Those 4 counties by the way have more people than the other 8.

KFSM isn't #3 in NWA.. just read the article these comments are attached to.

Oh and btw.... NWA vs. River Valley is only about 53% to 47%.

Lets review some of the marketwide ratings: (KFSM wins all, but this is a sample)

Time Rt/Share
6AM KFSM 7/40 KHOG 4/22 KNWA 1/6
10P KFSM 13/28 KHOG 10/21 KNWA 5/11

Hmmm.....

what it takes to tolerate

40/29: I can't.

kfsm: not seeing the anchor's neck giggling every time he opens his mouth.

knwa: not having to endure crap stories; not having two watch two fluff stories and 20 minutes of sports; not having to look at all the woman wearing clown-whore make-up (Neile, you vixen); not hearing Neile act like being part of her 'team' is the only way to cure cancer: honey, cancer is about more than you! This co-survivor crap stinks through the tv.

Wow! Those KNWA morning ratings are beautiful!

At 11:14 PM, April 02, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What's your point? I find it funny that it seems you should be worried about KFSM not KNWA. Maybe that's why you are stuck in the #2 spot.

At 9:17 AM, April 03, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KFSM was be losing ground in both NW Ark & the River Valley. Their news director left and the people doing it right now are clueless.

At 11:38 AM, April 03, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What's most interesting is how KHOG slammed KNWA for abandoning the River Valley....and now KHOG is doing the same thing by moving to Rogers. They're a little late, though, as KNWA is already THE NW AR news station at 10. Good luck catching up!

Maybe the reason 40/29's numbers are so good - is because the whole U of A football team is watching.....

FACT: Thomas McAfee, who lives in Searcy, FOI’s both Houston and Danny Nutt’s cell phone records. He then sends emails on March 15, 2007 to Arkansas Board of Trustee members alerting them to what he found:

First – that Houston Nutt called directory assistance on 12/9 at 11:41pm. He then called the Holiday Inn in Springdale at 11:42 pm. Then called Bragg’s cell phone at 11:47pm. Then called her again at 1:31 am on 12/10.

Second – that Houston Nutt texted Bragg some 229 times between November 30th and December 11th. He also says Nutt texted her another 305 times after December 11th – for a total of 534 text messages.

Thirdly - McAfee points out that the phone records show that Danny Nutt talked to Prewitt the night she sent the email to Mustain.

FACT: On March 19, 2007, Byron Freeland, Houston Nutt’s personal attorney in Little Rock, and a member of the Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates and Woodyard PLLC law firm ( (501) 688-8810 ) sends a four page letter to Mr. McAfee addressing “the malicious and defamatory statements in your e-mail dated Thursday, March 15, 2007, to members of the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas, President B. Alan Sugg, Chancellor John A. White and members of the media. We do not typically respond to these types of false accusations, but feel it is appropriate in this instance.”

Freeland goes on to say that Houston Nutt’s mother-in-law passed away on December 7th. On the 8th, six football prospects were in Fayetteville for a recruiting trip and were staying at the Holiday Inn in Springdale. On Saturday the 9th, Nutt was in New York City for the Heisman Trophy Award Ceremony. Freeland says Nutt came back to Fayetteville late that night, landing at Drake Field, then went to the Broyles Center to pick up the recruiting itinerary and then went home.

He says during that time, Bragg attempted to contact Nutt to talk about news she had gotten earlier that evening that a former boyfriend had been diagnosed with cancer. He says Bragg sent Nutt a text at 11:26 pm and Nutt returned that text at 11:36 pm. He texted her again at 11:45 pm because it looked like the original text hadn’t gone through. At 11:47 pm Nutt called Bragg, but she wasn’t able to talk to him. At 11:50 pm Bragg sent Nutt another text, and he texted back at 11:52 pm.

Freeland says Bragg sent Nutt another text at 1:30 am Sunday the 10th, but assumed he would be asleep and that he would see it the next morning. However, he was awake and called Bragg at 1:31 am talking for four minutes. Bragg texted Nutt again at 6:25 am, apologizing for texting him so late the night before.

Nutt’s attorney adds that Nutt called the front desk at the Holiday Inn that night to make sure his recruits had made their 1:00 am curfew. He says after meeting with the recruits Sunday morning, he, Frank Broyles and Jim Lindsey flew in Lindsey’s private plane to Oklahoma City to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral. Nutt’s wife had left earlier in the weekend.

Freeland also told McAfee that Nutt and Bragg have a professional relationship that developed as a result of her fundraising efforts as the Executive Director of the Bost Foundation.

The attorney ends the letter with, “After a review of your email dated March 15, 2007, it appears that you have intentionally made defamatory statements about Coach Nutt with the intent to harm his reputation with the public and the Board of Trustees. … In addition, we are of the opinion that your actions constitute an illegal attempt to interfere with Coach Nutt’s contract with the University. …. Please have your attorney contact me as soon as possible. I would like to set up a meeting with you and your attorney so that we can discuss the defamatory statements you have made about my client. Coach Nutt and I prefer to do business face to face so that there is no misunderstanding about the facts, your intentions, and any future actions which we may take on behalf of Coach Nutt.”

FACT: Nutt’s attorney gives details about three of the text messages to Bragg, but does not address what the other 531 texts over a two week period were about.

FACT: The Capitol One Bowl was played on 1/1/07 at noon central time.

At 11:31 am – 29 minutes before the game – Nutt texts Bragg

At 11:41 am – 19 minutes before the game – Nutt texts Bragg again

At 11:42 am – 18 minutes before the game – Nutt texts his wife

At 11:43 am – 17 minutes before the game – Nutt texts Bragg again

At 11:48 am – 12 minutes before the game – Nutt texts a cell currently being used by James Joseph – the newly named running backs coach at the University of Memphis

At 1:13pm – during the game – Nutt texts his wife again

At 3:57 pm, 3:29 pm and 4:01 pm – he texts his wife

At 4:28 pm he texts Bragg again

FACT: Nutt’s cell phone bill for the period of 12/12/06 to 1/11/07 was $793.10.

For the period of 1/12/07 to 2/11/07 it was $1,432.92.

He does not have a texting plan, so each text cost 10 cents.

FACT: Nutt changed his cell phone number since the bills were requested through FOIA.

I go to school with Houston Nutt's daughters. How do you think they feel when, they know people are thinking, "Gosh, I'm so sorry your dad is having an affair." I wish the media would stay out of the private matters of public figures. Things of this nature are made public because it's scandalous, and people can't get enough gossip. I wish people would be more considerate and let this information be between Nutt and his family.
