KARK got two awards... KATV got a pair... and KTHV only one... how interesting !
OVERALL NEWS BABES ON STAFF EXCELLENCE: KATV
Um, KTHV didn't get any, according to this. KLRT got one, KTHV got none.
KTHV got zero KLRT got 1. But it is interesting that KATV now has some competition for hardware. The emmys should be fun.
Cheer up KATV, you may be #2 at 10 and #3 in the morning but you're still the best at spending thousands of dollars to win awards.
KATV is best if you watch with the sound turned down. KARK is best if you want to watch and listen !
Fox is best if you're looking for a local newcast at 9 p.m. in the Little Rock area

But only if you enjoy watching an hour long newscast that has three time as much national news and filler as they do 'local'.
I did hear that KARK took over #2 in the morning. Anyone have the February numbers?
"Local news" at Fox means the news is read by people who live in Little Rock.
KARK did move up to second in the mornings... after years of being dead last. They're just working harder and putting out a good product.
This is like Shakespeare In Love winning Best Picture in 1998.
Shakespeare in Love=KATV
Saving Private Ryan=KTHV
The best doesn't always get the little prize.
Forrest Gump should win every year!
Awards don't mean you're the best.
Beauty pageants and award shows should be done away with. Same with Broadcasting awards.
Best is a relative term and why does a panel or judge get to deem what that is?
Some of the TV stations in LR care way too much about awards. It does not indicate what viewers really like or what is good.
They just get dusty and clutter up the walls.
I'm probably the minority here.
Could someone post the February numbers including demos and last year's February for a comparison?
No, Channel 4 staffer, we can't post the numbers here so that you can use them.
actually i'm a advertising client.
it must have been a good book for channel 4 then
McFloaty, you're a complete moron.
Just a reminder in case you forgot.
I agree. Comparing any local TV news product--especially KTHV's--to Saving Private Ryan is really pretty unbelievable.

I accidently entered my comment twice sorry about that
Just FYI for all you THV haters - we didn't submit any entries for the Murrows this year. Sorry to rain on your parade; plus we wouldn't promote the fact we won if we did - that's just the way our station does things (shrugs shoulders).
Ummm. That's not true. For many, many years, several times a day, KTHV included in its news intro the fact that it won two national emmy awards. They are now collecting dust.
It doesn't make sense that a station wouldn't submit something in a market where every station does. To claim a moral high ground that you don't makes even less sense.
The people who say things like being first, or going live, or winning awards don't make any difference are usually the people who don't do or win those things on a regular basis.
It's not about hate here. It's about presenting as clear and honest a picture as possible in a business that hangs its hat on clarity and honesty. Of course, we all know it's a clown hat.
So KTHV should spend tons of money on awards that mean nothing to advertisers just because everybody else in the market does?
Seems to me the ratings book is a big enough boost for KTHV. No need to waste money on awards that a vast majority of the viewers could care less about.
That's your opinion that viewers don't care about them. You and I know they're usually decided only by people who want the free pizza, but viewers don't know that.
Your logic is correct that since THV doesn't spend a huge amount of money on gathering news or paying anyone besides main anchors, they wouldn't spend money on such foolishness as being recognized for any sort of excellence by their peers.
Ok, well how come Daybreak says Arkansas' Favorite Morning show when they are in 3rd place? How is that legal? Favorite according to whom? If you can't source your claim, how is that legal? I'm just curious.
The truth of the matter is because KTHV wasn't winning awards anymore. The Hair decided that it was a waste of money.
It's a typical THV thought process. Instead of improving or going beyond the superficial or actually going outside a 25 mile radius of Little Rock (policy, by the way except for Razorbacks), they reason the fault must be with the awards process or that viewers don't care. It's quite funny, actually.
It's probably not legal to make false claims, but the other stations aren't concerned enough about a #3 program to call them out on it. If you had to source that, it would become Arkansas' Least Favorite Morning Show according to Nielsen. I don't think THV or KARK see Daybreak as a threat.
"Favorite" is an ambiguous term... and since it does not pertain to any group... it can be used for anything. KATV could mean that Daybreak is Melinda Mayo's favorite morning show. Bottom line.. KARK is kicking tail !
Here's a cut and paste (bold is added for emphasis)...
Since June 1985, "Daybreak" has helped Arkansans start their day informed in a relaxed, easy going atmosphere. "Daybreak" was Arkansas' first program to provide a Saturday morning local news program in July 1991.
"Daybreak" has been Arkansas' preferred source of morning news since beginning, over a decade ago. "Daybreak" is Arkansas' early morning news leader with the latest news, weather and features.
That's pretty specific and it's very much wrong. But what do you expect. KATV hasn't exactly embraced the web. It takes them weeks if not months to add/remove talent and their video is pathetic. The site looks like something from the early 90's.
The above poster wouldn't be a very good contract attorney, so let me school you, Skippy !
It says ""Daybreak" has been Arkansas' preferred source of morning news since beginning, over a decade ago."
The phrase "has been" does not specify a time period. That means if the show was #1 for one book, it's technically accurate.
It goes on to say: ""Daybreak" is Arkansas' early morning news leader with the latest news, weather and features."
All that specifies in they are the leader in something, could be anything, such as showing YouTube segments.
Can't believe I spent this much time on this post.

True, but when that was written it actually was the #1 show. but no worries! A new double-secret version of Daybreak is in the works. It's gonna be called "Sunrise with Springdale" and feature Mitch Mustain, Damien Williams, Ben Cleveland with the Weather and Live Reports with Gus Malzahn. I've heard they're gonna take turns burning effigies of Houston Nutt! That show will ROCK!
Daybreak hasn't been #1 in 6 or 7 years now, but this industry tolerates more "spin" than any other industry I have seen. If you are #3, and you are saying we are the leader and preferred and favorite, whatever, that should make us all laugh. One good book in 6 or 7 years is nothing to brag about.
Daybreak, Arkansas' Least Favorite Morning Show according to Nielsen. That is freaking hilarious!
KTHV didn't submit because there wasn't anything to submit.
They have lost their one good journalist so why bother? Why play when you know there's no chance of winning?
You're going to hear one REALLY loud pop one day soon Audus. .....When your head finally pops out of your a**.
4:53....
Thanks for explaining it; but isn't that completely pathetic and intentionally misleading viewers into piling on a broken down bandwagon.
If they are interested in the news and having credibility, why would they stretch the truth so far it doesn't resemble anything like it.
That is so shady.
Larry is all right. He trys too hard to be PC, but I think he cares and means well on the people front. No one is perfect.
Great job Channel 4! The work ethic pays off and it really shows! The stories are local and that's what people want. The reporters and anchors are down to earth people who relate well to the viewers. Keep pouring out the great product!
Everyone in the market won something except for KTHV who allegedly didn't submit anything. Aren't the Edward R. Murrows a participation thing where everyone who partakes gets a blue ribbon? It sure seems like it. Oooh, an Edward R. Murrow award for journalism excellence.
Management is jumping up and down and high-fiveing each other. It's just so stupid.
EVERYONE IN THE MARKET HAS ONE! BIG DEAL!
"Ummm. That's not true. For many, many years, several times a day, KTHV included in its news intro the fact that it won two national emmy awards."
Ummm. Wrong. It IS true. That was a different administration - different news director, different GM. The current regime doesn't believe in promoting awards - they'd rather promote Larry the cat I guess.
The awards process is what it is. Anyone who has participated in any contest judging knows that who wins depends greatly on the makeup of the judging pool. It's not always fair, but that's life. If you base one's career solely on the amount of awards he/she has won then you're missing the point.
In reference to THV losing its 'one good journalist' as someone put it - since when did all journalists have to be on-air talent? BTW, AP won a Murrow about 4 years ago - believe me, you never knew it by watching THV because it wasn't promoted. Just a fact.
Say what you will about viewers not caring about awards - I believe that perception is everything. If you tell viewers that you're the best, they'll tend to believe it. My 2 cents.
Unless you work at one of these staions winning a Murrow award does not mean squat.
The viewers don't know what is is and they don't care.
I am sure all of these stations will enjoy patting themselves on the back though.
Wow, I can see/feel the indifference!

I don't think it's really shady, it's falls more in the lazy/incompetent realm. I remember back in it's heyday, Daybreak got a 40 share (You can look it up!) Then David Hershey left and the show never got any good promotion afterwards. To quote a former anchor of Daybreak "It was the plant that was never watered". This was around the same time THV developed their morning show. Maybe they are just waiting for David Hershey to come back to remove the ("Daybreak" has been Arkansas' preferred source of morning news since beginning, over a decade ago.) line. I don't know. I'm still waiting for "It's Springtime in Springdale" or whatever the new show will be named.
I hear KHBS/KHOG also won for best newscast in their region.
David hershey ain't coming back. He's now the VP of Edge Creative in Burbank, CA.
But you can't blame Daybreak's loss on David's departure. It was the firing of Matt and Julie. No matter how stupid the show was, it connected with the viewers and the community. it was still number 1 by a big margin when they got the axe. it hasn't been on top since. And what has KATV's answer been to fix it. Fire more anchors just when they started to register with viewers. So now it's number 3. Dale should look in the mirror before he points any fingers at Melinda, Beth, or Jason.
actually that's not quite correct. Daybreak's ratings were slipping at the tail end of the Matt & Julie era, mainly due to lack of promotion and care & proper feeding. Also it hut a lot when Rachel Fedder left. She was such a hoot. And they may have been just ahead of 11 but it was very close. Now was getting rid of them a mistake? U Betcha it was! I totally agree the show hasn't been the same and you're right it's not due to bad talent it's just that Matt & Julie & Rachel really clicked with the audience. Now, I'm still waiting for the New New Springtime in Springdale with Matt Mosler, Melinda Mayo, and Mitch Mustain! That'll be MMMMMM Good!
I've been in this industry forever, and here's what is so ironic. Matt Mosler, BJ Sams, and Tom Brannon have all been let go from KATV at some point in their career. BJ and Tom have beat KATV in the ratings for what 6 or so years now? And here comes KARK with Matt passing 7. BJ, Tom, and Matt are great assets to this community and their respective stations. Congrats on a job well done, guys. You all 3 deserve credit for the character you have shown through tenacity and hard work. You are very well liked by the viewers, and the ratings prove it.
Working with Hershey at 7 in the heyday was a blast.and although the promo dept. at 4 isn't Hershey they are doing something right over there and ill give credit when it is due.Congrats 4!
The promo department at 4 has not had an original thought since Carl Tibbets left.
I think all the morning news programs would benefit more if they'd stick more stuff on the websites. Because some of us don't have time to write down every little phone number and crap while we're getting ready for work. THV does a lot of it, but I don't see much from the others.
THV easily has the best website. Hands down... Thats where this industry is headed.
not familiar with Carl, but we know who RT and BG are, good job guys.
"not familiar with Carl, but we know who RT and BG are, good job guys."
You probably were not born when Carl was at KARK. He left in the early 70's.
Times have changed in a big way since the 70's. The viewers are different and want more. New promotional ideas are needed for the next generation viewer.
I don't work in the gawd awful TV news business, but I will tell you my perception and I'm not affiliated with KARK or any one there.
Their promotions may not be original ideas, but they are the most originally presented, sharp, hip and modern in LR. They could have an outside production department tomorrow that could compete with just about anyone in town.
KATV: A $10 an hour employee makes theirs.
KTHV; outside of the weatherman Ed Buckna promotion, they've been running the same old stuff with different lighting for nearly ten years. Oh... and they did partner with the guy who got canned at ADED for the Arkansas.com thing. But it's bad. Does everyone use the same tired sunset shot? And who is singing the jingle at the end? Do they have a cleft palate? They wouldn't have made it to the sub level of the sub level of American Idol.
Times have changed in a big way since the 70's. The viewers are different and want more. New promotional ideas are needed for the next generation viewer.
And, KARK has not had an original thought since then.
they've been running the same old stuff with different lighting for nearly ten years.
All stations are running promos in their news shows. That's says that they can't sell the time and that is time that will never be available again, just like sitting in black.
10:09, THV didn't develop their morning team, they fell into it by accident.
These people aren't rocket scientists. This is broadcast journalism in Arkansas. No one thinks THV created their morning team by an act of creative genius. They just happen to have the best mix and the viewers like it. Sorry you have to deal with it.
I can't believe that awards with Edward R Murrow's name is going to any Little Rock TV station for anything it did... The standards have gone way down apparently.
