JB Hunt Passes Away

Was watching KARK News at Noon when the news of JB Hunt passing away was reported. That was about 12:20pm. Did KATV interrupt its soap opera and did KTHV interrupt Positively Arkansas ? As of 12:40pm, KARK and KTHV have a story up about Hunt passing away on their websites.

They shouldn't have broken in. He was a tremendous businessman and the loss is tragic. I feel for his family but his passing did not justify a break-in or even a crawl. As a recall and I could be wrong but I dont think they broke in when old man Dillard passed on.

I was piloting a hot air balloon near Fayetteville several years ago when I encountered difficulties and had to make an unplanned landing in a pasture. In a couple of minutes a man drove up in a pickup offering assistance. He helped me pack up and haul my balloon back to the main road where my support crew caught up with me. While we waited we drank coffee from his Thermos as I told him about piloting a hot air balloon. I found out later my gracious host was J.B. Hunt. I had landed on his property. He was a gracious, down-to-earth gentleman whom I am glad to say I got to spend considerable time with after that. I am saddened by his passing, and my sympathies are with his family.

As to breaking into programming to break the news of his death, you people really need to get a life outside the snide world of blog posting.

I have mixed feelings about the break in. Yes he was a prominant man of Arkanas. Then there is the side to life that we are all created equal. I have lost loved ones that I thought was just as special as Mr Hunt and no break in on the tv for them. Maybe I don't have the right attitude, but lets treat all equal. No disrespect to Mr Hunt at all. Just my feelings

I agree.... I'm sure he was a great man, but people do die every day. It's not breaking news.

Once you guys get your name on 2 different buildings in the NW Ark area and a semi or 2 to have your name on the side, maybe then you will understand the importance of what JB has done for this area. I suppose when Sam Walton died that wasn't worthy of a break in either?

First of all, let me acknowledge that Mr. Hunt was clearly a generous, gracious and phenomenal business man. That said, I don't think that cut-ins are appropriate for anything less than a high elected public official. No disrespect intended to Mr Hunt or anyone else but breaking into programming won't change the fact that they are gone. Maybe if Mr. Hunt had owned the TV station. Other than that, insert a newsbreak during scheduled commercial time or wait until the next newscast.

When Boozeman's brother died no one broke into programming and he was a key political and social figure in all of Arkansas. So, why break in for JB Hunt's death. Although I understand the nature of the market, but if they didn't do that for Boozeman, surely they shouldn't have done it for Hunt.

It's not just about a man dying. This man is very important to the economy of Arkansas. As usual, several posters on here are not well educated on what goes on in this state. You should have known that the man is owner or part owner in 100's of business in the state. If that's not news worthy then the crap you call content everday in your newscast is a joke.

Sam Walton made a lasting impact on the world economy. I don't think they should have broken in for him either.
As to my business knowledge, I have been a local business commentator for the last 18 years.
8:36PM You obviously have no idea what it's like to manage or make professional decisions. This is a slippery slope.
Once you start, where do you draw the line?
Do you base it on net worth? Gross Revenues? Net Income? Number of businesses owned? The number of trucks? Charitable Donations?
Deaths are clearly news but few are breaking news worthy of cut-ins.

You have to be kidding, right? Break into programming for the death of J.B. Hunt? While Hunt had a good reputation in Arkansas, the rest of the country viewed his company as a joke. Heck, most of that company's equipment is leased through a competing trucking company's financing arm. Good gravy, LR teevee still sucks.
