Mejores deseos, Jeannette!
Congrats, Jeannette! A top 10 market is pretty impressive!
A lot of folks leaving AR and going to top markets lately.
Wonderful! Enjoy your time in our nation's capital...it's a great city, full of diversity and culture.
Addition by subtraction.
Ella era muy buena. Buena suerte en tu nuevo trabajo.
She was one of our best reporters. Best wishes in D.C.!
Oh, no! We've lost Christina and Jeannette. Both beautiful and talented Latina women. Best of wishes to both!
One of our best reporters? I think there are several people better than her in the KATV newsroom. Good luck to her anyway.
I know you'll do great. KATV keeps losing their most talented reporters...Stephanie Simoni (CT), Roger Susanin (Nashville), Matt Johnson (San Diego), and now the lovely Jeannette (D.C.). Best wishes sweet girl.
I'm not surprised she got snagged up by a top ten market. She has really grown as a reporter over the last two years.
She has definitely grown over the last couple years. If I'm not mistaken, she's from NY or somewhere on the East coast, so I'm sure she's happy to be closer to loved ones.
While the cat's away, Big Shot will play!
Others can say what they will but in MY opinion, she was the BEST reporter in this market.
@339: I agree she was definitely one of the best, if not the best in this market and that's why she's now in a top 10 market.
Felicidades!
Actually, she is moving on to a large market because her race and ethnicity make it easier for her to do so.
Her being Latino does not give her a gold pass to the top 10 market; she was hired because she's a hard worker, and talented reporter.
It's not a gold pass, it's more like the TSA pre-check line at the airport. No waiting and straight to the front of the line. The guy in the regular line is probably just as qualified to fly in your plane, but you get to go ahead of him anyway.
At 420-She was unarguably one of, if not the best reporter in the Little Rock market and that sir, is why she's working in our nation's capital. WJLA isn't going to hire someone based simply on their looks, race, ethnicity, or any other intangible thing. They're looking for the entire full package, and that sir, is what Jeannette brings to the table. They are fortunate to have such a talent as she, and she'll be a wonderful asset to WJLA and all of Washington, DC and surrounding areas.
@4:53, I am lady, thank you, and I will agree to disagree.
Jeannette is just wonderful! She'll be national before too long.
Good bilingual reporters are in high demand because in larger markets it's very important to be able to speak both English and Spanish.
I'll admit Jeannette was easier on the eyes than say Janelle & had a much better delivery than Kat for sure but I agree with 4:20 & 4:49 above
Top markets such as those in NYC, L.A., D.C., Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, etc have large Latino populations and it's very important for the reporters to be able to speak Spanish. With that being said, yes, Latino reporters are in high demand, but they still have to be effective/proficient and above average in all areas. Being Latino in itself means nothing if you're not good at your job.
Is Jeannette Hispanic?
@1136: Yes, she is Latino; both her parents are Dominican. We are a very diverse group of people and range in color from white to black. Latinos (Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Panamanians, Mexicans, etc) are a mixture of Spainard (European White), Taino (Indian), and African (Black). Latinos all have differents concentrations of those races, so a Latino that appears more white usually has a higher concentration of Spainard ancestry, a Latino that looks more Indian or Mestizo usually has a higher concentration of Taino ancestry, and a Latino that looks more black usually has a higher concentration of African ancestry. We Latinos are all mixed, but at the end of the day we identify not as white, black, or mixed but as Latino because that is who we are.
11:36 depends on the story. If it's Hispanic people being treated badly she is Hispanic, if it's racism against blacks, she is African American.
Congratulations! You go girl! Guess what?Ned will come in and do the weather, Pat and Vanna will give away some cash and prizes, and KATV will continue kicking butt like they have for the past 25+ years with some other new rising star who has seen their predecessors use KATV as a launching pad to a major market.
