Who Will Fill the Empty Anchor Chair at KATV?

The news of KATV evening anchor Christina Munoz is no doubt the buzz in Little Rock.  Now we turn who will be filling the seat being left empty.  Should KATV bring in someone totally new or promote from within.  Of course the obvious thing to do is promote Beth Hunt to the position.  Everybody knows Beth's face since she has been with the station for a long time now.  If it were me I'd make Beth the co-anchor of the 5,6, and 10 newscasts.

So who deserves the empty chair?  Please discuss!

The buzz of little rock? Hardly. It's the buzz of jealous tv bitches who want her chair. No one else cares.

Does anyone else remember Krista Plazer? I think she came in from Canada right after Karen Fuller left. She was not very well received and didn't last long. Erin reminds me of her for some reason.

I believe it was Platzer, and yes there are a lot of similarities.

At 8:53 AM, March 02, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No, they aren't similar and one big difference is management loves Erin and she has significant favorable ratings with her audience. Some of her co-workers may not like her, but that's very insignificant. A lot of Barbara Walter's co-workers didn't like her either, but that didn't stop her rise to the top and neither will the sad imbeciles that troll the blogs.

Bring on Beth. Please.

Ratings have not improved since Erin came. Don't believe that trash.

At 9:53 AM, March 02, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Erin has a choice in how she is viewed by her peers. She doesn't have to be so inappropriate and unprofessional. If she were more tactful, no one would be near as up in arms about this.

Some people love to whine and complain and that's exactly why they never get anywhere in life...stagnant. Bitch and moan all you want while others pass you by. The road to success is sometimes lonely and difficult, but in the end well worth the struggle.

9:53 nailed it.

The hypocrisy is shameful. If a man is assertive, he's a leader; if a woman is assertive, she's a crazy bitch and unprofessional. You just have to take the hypocrites with a grain of salt. They done the same thing to Christina McLarty when she was at KATV. They gossiped behind her back, called her a bitch, and said she only got the job based upon her looks and connection to Bill & Hilary; they also said she'd never go far in her career. After one year she left KATV and became an entertainment reporter in Dallas, then LA, NYC, and went national on the syndicated Entertainment Tonight and The Insiders. She's a top entertainment reporter with a lucrative contract. She travels the world interviewing A list award winning celebs, is in a wonderful relationship with Friends actor David Arquette, and is pregnant with her first child. She's living her dream while those same hatred and naysayers haven't advanced any. She's accomplished a lot in 34 years and I'm so proud of my classmate and friend from Mt. St. Mary. With that being said, hold your head up high, Erin...I see a bright future ahead of you!

At 12:18 PM, March 02, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Assertive isn't the right word for her. Tactless is.

At 12:26 PM, March 02, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Erin were the total package inside and out, why did her husband leave her? You would think any guy would want to stick with a beauty queen headed for stardom. Or maybe there is more beneath that cold expression.

At 12:39 PM, March 02, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think you are looking under the wrong rock. The decision will be made on the 3rd floor. The sales monsters will huddle in a room and sip some fine wine and pick a new face. They will tell Gentry who to hire and he will do it. Hunt will fill in and that is it. This is about a management decision not who is befriending the news director. So drop it and go back to work.

Erin was married at one time? How old is she? Just wondering.

I remember Christina Mclarty. She's the daughter of Mack Mclarty, former chief of staff to then President Clinton. She comes from a very influential AR family but she was always a sweet girl.

Doubt Beth wants the Nightside gig. Erin would want it but what are your thoughts on two blonde main anchors?

And who will be the new weekend anchor if Erin moves up?

Erin isn't a real blonde.

You can't go wrong with either Beth or Erin in HD. KATV will own the ratings even more. First world problems.

Christina looks like she's been crying tonight.

At 3:26 AM, March 04, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Beth has already told them she does NOT want to switch to Nightside. I personally feel that Erin is a little stiff and robotic on air (although you could say the same about Christina and that didn't hurt 7), but this is Little Rock we're talking about not New York City. She'll get the job and be fine in the end.

It doesn't matter who they put in the chair. The public will get used to it and those few viewers who still watch tv news will like it.

After 35 years as a News Director in small and middle southern markets (50-90), I know that “cheap” is the operative word in the minds of GM’s and ND’s when hiring what we all like to call “talent” (I use that word inclusively). LOW BALLING is the modus operandi. Even if the ND seems to be a good “guy” with your best interests at heart, she most likely is under the thumb of the front office. She has a budget and she best not blow it on talent. Unless you are established in your market and the stations are competing for your services, you won’t get the big—or even adequate—bucks. But there is hope. First, know what you’re worth. Talk to every news grunt you can find in the mkt. Kiss up to the receptionist—he’ll know everything, even if it’s a bit exaggerated. Dig up as much info as you can before the interview. Know what the market pays its best talent.
If you have the “muchos cojones, “use them in negotiations. Don’t accept the first offer. Sit up straight with a pleasant smile on your face, look her in the eye and toss out a number you know will leave her just short of gagging. If she has a real problem with your asking price, suggest a substantial one-time signing bonus to help compensate. Avoid back-end contract offers unless you are certain you won’t be fired before the contract expires. Right- to-work states have all kinds of legal outs for managers who don’t want to honor contracts. When you have pushed it as far as you can without being kicked out and you still don’t have a good offer, thank her for her time, tell her you’ll give her chance to talk to GM , hand her your card and leave quietly with a “I’ll talk to you soon.” If they want you, they’ll come back with a counter offer. If they really want you, and know they are competing for your services with other stations in the market they might even meet your demands. If, after all that, you are still being low balled, you don’t want to work with those kinds of people anyway. If you are desperate for the money and there are no other offers anywhere, then you probably don’t belong, nor should you want to be “in the business." Or you can always hire an agent.

Please KARK, stop doing those cut away shots of the meteorologist pretending to look at their computer monitor and making stupid faces while the anchor is talking about them. It's extremely cheesy & gag worthy.

At 7:42 PM, March 04, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

OftND-

Your words are platinum. As an anchor for 20+ years in various Midwest markets, that is about spot on when doing your own negotiating.

Especially in 2014, every station wants to buy a shiny Lexus but only pay the price of a 2002 Grand Am.

Information is power when negotiating. If you're lowballed at a station, recall the last overpaid anchor who got a DUI, harassment suit or couldn't read the prompter. Look them in the eye and tell them you won't make those mistakes.

Often the best decisions are the ones not taken.

At 6:19 AM, March 05, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If an anchor wants more money, just hire the cheaper girl who wants the opportunity. Problem solved.

At 7:52 AM, March 05, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KATV has had enough phony female news anchors. They don't need to put Erin there. People who think she is physically attractive should realize she is ugly on the inside. If she is named anchor, I will skip watching KATV until Sully's sportscasts. Ned should be the next one to go.

What makes Erin so ugly on the inside? What has she done or what does she do that is so awful?
As a viewer - I hope she gets the anchor chair. I think she does a great job & she's got the look.
So I'm curious as to what goes on behind the scenes that is so bad that she doesn't deserve the job?

At 12:17 PM, March 05, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

All the comments made about Erin are from one spoiled former KATV person. He knows who he is. Erin does a fine job and anyone that can read a ratings book can tell you that KATV has improved its numbers on the weekends since she has come aboard.

R. L.

At 2:57 PM, March 06, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's enough. He may well be one of the posters, but there are clearly others with longer KATV histories. Only KATV people with a lot of longevity would remember Platzer - certainly not R.L. The random sprinkles of Sully-love point to other directions as well IMO. It couldn't be just one person. If you have break a lot of eggs to get to the top, then she was successful in breaking them. Now we all have to eat the omelet and accept it or leave. It's that simple.

At 6:16 PM, March 06, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There is a lot of Sully love because he treats people with respect. He may not be the world's greatest at getting things in on time or whatever else but he is a genuinely nice person . If you work hard for him he will work hard for you. Everyone has their flaws, myself included. So before we start throwing stones let's all realize we live in glass houses

So, Beth tweeted tonight that she's "not used to the Nightside shift, yet..." Is it wrong to interpret this as meaning that she will be the permanent anchor replacing Christina?

Yes that would be wrong.

At 9:49 PM, March 08, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anyone pregnant with David Arquette's child has a real judgment problem. Arquette is an immature alcoholic who recently starting drinking again, despite his well known problem. Hear him often on the Howard Stern Show and am always amazed at his goofy, teenager-like approach to life. Courtney Cox obviously got tired of mothering the guy and so will McLarty in time. No one should praise Mack's daughter for allowing herself to be impregnated by such a troubled person. Prediction: It won't end well.

At 11:32 PM, March 10, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Beth is the clear choice and best for the job. Erin shouldn't get it. If Erin is the only choice they should bring in a brand new anchor.

It will probably be whoever they pick and then we will all forget all about this.

Ok a quick google image search of Beth Hunt and Good Morning Arkansas shows a multitude of pictures with her on a GMA set. She must have done it at one point or another. End of story.

But Erin, I can't even listen to the news for looking at her stiff hair
