Moore to leave KTHV?....What Happens Next?
Several tips have been received stating Wes Moore will be leaving KTHV/Channel 11/Little Rock at the end of June. One only wonders what Wes will do following his departure. KARK bound? What will KTHV do? Move Craig back to the sports desk?....HMMMMMM.....

KARK was my first thought with Kerri O gone. Who does that leave at KTHV? Surely they won't promote Iyana Crystal. Her monotone delivery is hard to take.
Outside of Wess and Dawn, THV never seems too concerned about who they put in front of a camera. I had a friend in from out of town and we surfed by 11 during a newscast. It was embarrasing. They seem to be a big step behind the other local stations, even Fox 16.
Hire regional reporters and let Craig talk with them via Skype.
That way they can look just as crappy as all the other stations that use Skype.
I see a lot of people here are trying to avoid bringing up Mark's name in this conversation. With Wes leaving, Mark is well-equipped to being the lead Sports guy at 11. He's been in the LR market for over 15 yrs.(radio & TV) and he has a number contacts w/athletes from around the state. MOST IMPORTANTLY, he has the personality needed to be a good Sports Director. Let's not kid ourselves. Wes is good dude, but he's not a Sports guy. He's more of a News personality. It wouldn't be in KARK's best interest to hire Wes as Sports Director.
Mark Edwards is the obvious choice. He brings a lot of charisma and personality to the anchor desk. He's fun to watch.
And -- before anyone says it - no, this is not Mark Edwards posting here. Just a viewer.
Mark will get it by default so they can bring in a new sports reporter for less money.

All this to avoid moving Mark Edwards into the lead position? ...
"The people" of Arkansas look to KTHV to be a leader within the broadcasting industry, not to be politicians. And although Edwards, may indeed have a great personality, and addictive smile, he comes well equipped and seasoned enough to hold his own, amongst the very best. What KTHV is clearly needing to do, is recognize that they possess a home-grown SPORTS personality, ripe and ready for the opportunity, with important, deep rooted ties across the state. The question is, will KTHV "big dogs" be focused enough to see this.
Reading these posts, it is evident that you guys have a sense of humor. Iyana Crystal? (Yawn) Wes? (Tsk, tsk.)....Don't have your viewers laughing all the way to channel 7.
KTHV needs to continue setting the pace for the state of Arkansas, and they need to do so by shifting Edwards into the position he has been groomed for, Director. To say he will "get it by default, so that they can hire another reporter for less money", is to say he is not deserving, experienced or talented enough to secure it by his own merit. Clearly NOT the case.
....and for the record, I'm not the real Mark Edwards either. He's probably out developing a story, you know? The kind you actually want to hear.

JOB REQIREMENTS FOR A SPORTS DIRECTOR: strong work ethic,team player, leadership skills,station loyalty, good moral character, sport and team contacts, local following, on air presence,good diction, and strong communication skills.
Sounds like Wes to me. Wes is by far the best in the market.
That's why we need some fresh meat in this market.

Mark seems like a nice guy but the bottom line is he struggles to speak well on camera. He constantly stutters and stammers, he is the complete opposite of Wess. If I were 11 I would make a big offer to Chris Kane and find out if he'd like to get back into sports as a Director. I'm not sure if he'd make the move or what his contract status is but think about it...you'd hire a young up and comer for your top sports guy and weaken your chief rivals morning show. It makes sense to me...
Chris wouldn't wanna risk that... he's in a much better position as far as longevity is concerned. His face is on the billboard and he's in his early 20's.
Go outside the market for a new sports director, there are many, many talented folks who could do it. Mark isn't particularly talented on air... sorry that's just truth.
9:51 you make a lot of sense but I agree with 11:53 that Chris probably wouldn't be interested. It's worth a shot but I also don't think Chris would want to go head to head with Sully, a guy he considers a mentor.
I assure you, THV is not interested in Chris Kane.
Chris Kane is currently in a more high profile position on KATV's morning show. Why would he want to go do sports for THV?

I can assure you Chris Kane is not interested in THV. Why would anyone choose to go to that rat hole if they had any other option. Plus I'm sure 7 was smart enough to lock him in long term with a non compete when he switched from sports.
The "rat hole" is changing with Audas' departure. It has been exactly 14 months since Audas left and there are fewer rage filled rants against the station on this blog often left by jealous,underpaid employees who have moved on to other stations in Little Rock or to markets outside Little Rock. Moral and working conditions are improving. "The times they are a changin."
Same thing going on at 4 from what I hear. Everyone getting along and new managers seem to be staying off here as well.

Why not bring Dale Nicholson III back to sports? Saw him out recently and he looks much older and rougher than I expected. Depressed about getting the boot from being on camera?? He was one of the lesser talented sports reporters I can remember!

Anchors at THV make an ungodly amount of money for what they do. So all this talk about them not being able to afford people is crazy talk. It's the reporters that don't make anything.
Yes, but one day, reporters grow up and become anchors and then they will start to make money. THVs mmj-ers need a lot of work before they are even considered for anchor roles.
How soon til Liz's contract is up? They've got to be thinking of ways they can get rid of her.

Do you think he might take the Bo Matingly route from KNWA and have his own radio show ? He could be the other three to four hour local radio show on KARN 920AM before Wally Hall and Shawn Arnell to compete with 103.7 the Buzz.He already does one hour why not do a full 3-4 hour show since he has a pretty big following on the one hour hogzone at 3pm.
Stop dissing Liz, folks. The anchors are not the problem at THV. The problems are the cringeworthy green reporters and weather girls. That makes me turn to another channel.

I was never a huge Dale Nicholson III fan but he did not get the boot. He willingly chose to get into TV sales. He has two kids and wanted $$$.

Mark Edwards is friendly and lively enough, but his poor diction is not good for TV.
We love the Jessica Duff makeover. She looks really great now!!!!! Like night and day.. I only Wish others at THV would do the same (dawn, Meredith and Liz). It would give the newscasts a breath of fresh air and help the ratings Dawn needs to lose that stringy shag look and update. She is still the best female anchor in LR but her look needs a boost.
Dawn is good but that hairstyle she has now says I just woke up. I agree with the previous poster about Dawnn and her unbecoming hairdo.
She could wear a ponytail. That would be worse!!! Oh, I forgot she wears that about 50% of the time.

If THV doesn't get a grip on its Sales Department - they won't have to worry about finding a new S.D. The dump will shut down...
Anytime somebody leaves, it gives THV an opportunity to hire a heavy hitter, something the "old THV" didn't always do. Even though Wes was good, if the new guy really wants to win, he will make sure they put an SD in place that will be a surefire homerun.
It takes money to hire a homerun. Gannett is not always willing to use that bat. Not every anchor there pulls in the big bucks like many think. That's why Allisyn left.
Though money was likely a big reason as to why Alison left THV, there was a bigger issue: the idiot news director and former GM failed to make her a formal contract offer. She felt as if she wasn't valued. They kept putting her off, and putting her off until it was too late and she not only entertained an offer from another station -- she accepted it. Poor management forced her to leave!
Since you know so much about her and her situation, it's strange you don't know how to spell her name.

As a viewer the only thing I don't like about THV is the set. I don't like all aspects of the indoor set. The black couch is dated as is the rest of the set. Too dark and gloomy especially in the morning. Give the place a decorating face lift. The on-air personalities are just as good and any other on air personalities in LR market.
