This from an emailer....
What's going on at KTBS
in Shreveport? They have new job postings for a Weekend
Anchor/Producer/Reporter. Does this mean Judy Wagoner, formerly of KNOE
in Monroe, is leaving as the current Weekend Anchor? There is also an
opening for a Sports Anchor/Reporter. Does this mean Fletch is leaving
KTBS after all these years?

What, what, WHAT!!! Is Fletch leaving for real?
Nah Spoon prolly is thoe.
Bob griffin is hanging it up!!!if he dont he will kill over on the acnhor desk one morning.
FYI: Griffin has been dead for years. What you've been seeing is the BG vers 3.1 He has a servo-motor that operates all motor-functions and his vocal / cognitive abilities are made possible from leftover HeathKit HAM radio parts from one of the old engineers who used to work at KSLA.
His energy once was derived from quantities of Schlitz but nowadays he gets it in a special concoction from the coffee bar at Barnes & Nobles.
I've known both Bob's over the years, and i'm hear to tell you Bob does get some of his energy from the Starbucks Coffee at B&N. However, he get the majority of his energy from Emmanuel Baptist Church every Sunday morning where he's at right now as I type this comment.
They're dropping like flies over at KTBS. I've heard someone else is leaving too but I'm not sure so I won't post until I hear for certian.
Here we go again. KTBS had 9 positions posted a few months ago that took forever to fill.
Hate to see Spoon leave. Early Christmas present if Judy wagonner is leaving.
Well here's a lump of coal for ya. Judy is not going anywhere.
Fletcher is not going anywhere.A reporter or two may be leaving, not by choice.
That's good news that Fletch is staying.
There has been so much drama and turnover at KTBS nothing about them surprises me any more.
Tim Fletcher is the Sports Director for KTBS 3 News—going to become the
Director of Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission. http://shreveportbossiersports.com/
Leslie Spoon is a Sports Anchor and Reporter for KTBS 3 – going to Green Bay
Ed Clay... posting here again.
Maybe KTBS can talk Todd Walker into taking the job instead of the manager at Calvery.
@ 9:06 AM.
Now that's funny right there....
Jodi looks like she may be carrying a package...anybody know more?
Now that's a great idea. Todd Walker is a cutie, and the only man i would leave my husband for. I actually started watching baseball because of him so I would naturally follow him if he were to become a sports anchor or director.
I was thinking the same thing 10:31. Haven't heard either way, but I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that Jodi's neck has gotten thicker and the girls are much larger.
So, was Spoon offered Fletcher's job after he decided to take this new position or had she already committed to Green Bay?
Well she's been wearing some really funky-patterned tops of late; could be coincidence or could be a way to hide the changes? My aunt was over the other night when we had the news on and brought it up.
I wonder if Jodi is pregnant and takes a maternity leave, who will replace her for those few weeks? If KTBS had any sense, Angela Cruz has been very good when she has substituted on the weekend.
I'm sure that will happen. I really like Angela's voice. She obviously did well in her voice and diction class.
KTBS should not have passed Angela Cruz over for the weekend anchor spot because she is much better than the elderly blonde who is there. I do not like the blonde's reading nor her appearance.
Judy delivers the news like Michelle Lafitte, extremely pitchy and annoying.
No one delivers like Michelle. She is the reason I quit watching KSLA. When she left with Ed Bradley I started watching it again.
I disagree with 1:09. I work with Michelle and I have never heard Judy over enunciate like Michelle does. Now as bad as she is about that Michelle doesn't come close to over enunciating as bad as her former KSLA co-worker Sharon Frame.
I don't think Jodi's delivery is bad at all. Certainly nowhere as bad as Mee shell Lafitte's.
I think they were comparing Judy Wagonner to Michelle Lafitte, not Jodi Lowery.
I tend to agree that Judy's voice does seem to grate on one's nerves.
Yes, 2:53 you are correct. I was comparing Judy Wagoner's delivery and Michelle White-Lafitte's delivery. Jody's name was never mentioned in any of those Judy-Michelle comments.
Getting back to the original thread. When are Bob Griffin and Lesley Spoon leaving? When is their last day?
Well Spoon is not listed anymore under all the reporters bios.
Spoon is on her way to Green Bay.. They did a little send off last night..
Oh great, I missed it! Well I hope Lesley's send off was better then that fake send off Rick slapped together when Sheri quit.
Cruz headed to florida
I'm not surprised Angela Cruz is leaving already. Not many tend to stick around here any more.
No one has posted anything about Fletch. Is he still leaving? If so, when?
634 noone sticks around ktbs cause they suck. its owned by by a local family and not by a broadcasting co. So theres no incentive other than a salary of working for KTBS.
Yes we know. All that has been well documented on various threads.
This just in Ron Burgundy to replace Gerry MAY IN A shocking development his quote after taking the job was" I don’t know how to put this but I’m kind of a big deal.” “People know me.” “I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”
also BIG NEWS BRICK TAMLAND WILL BE REPLACING FLETCH AND WELL he had somethings to say about it... Brick Tamland: Where'd you get your clothes... from the... toilet store? then he went onto say I'm Brick Tamland. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded.
more big news from ktbs .... brian fantana will be replacing Chris Redford its rumored... and his response to the announcement was.. Where is the suit store? We've been walking for forty-five minutes. and this rather weird comment was added.. Come on guys, don't eat me! Eat Brick! He won't even care. Right Brick?
You boys can do all that while I practice my none regional diction.
Can't figure out how much of the above posts are true or not. Can someone verify who REALLY is leaving at KTBS? Thanks.
OMG! The previous comments from 7:12, 7:20, 7:29, and 9:30 are all references from the Will Ferrell comedy Anchorman, The Legend of Ron Burgundy. They're all inside jokes for those if us in broadcasting.
The only sure thing is Spoon hitting the fork in the road, knifing her way to Green Bay......
So are they just rumors regarding Fletch and Angela Cruz leaving?
Cruz headed to Florida. crazy people put everything on the intrawebz.
"Angela Cruzposted toJennifer Gray Reeves
May 19 near Shreveport, LA.We are headed to West Palm for sure! :) Yay!!! ♥
Jennifer Gray Reeves YAY!! When do you get here?? Let me know and Brad and I will take y'all to dinner!! :) I can't waitMay 20 at 7:07am · 1.Angela Cruz Yay!! Hopefully we can all catch up :)May 21 at 8:26am.."
Rumors are that Sheri Talley might be interested in doing the Sunday morning telecast when Bob Griffin retires.
Really? That would be great for us but would suck for Sherri. Working weekends is main dislike of our business.
The original post asked if either Judy Wagoner and/or Tim Fletcher were leaving. Does anyone have any new information on either?
Yes, and the answer is no.
Good, now everyone can keep bitching and moaning about Judy. And if it wasn't Judy everyone would bitch and moan about someone else.
Yes lord. You got that right.
Can't really see that happening, (Sherri doing the Weekend)....
Why?
A. There's no real money attached
B. The hours suck
Any questions?
Yea that's a rumor or a lie. Wild horses won't get her back in to KTBS.
That's what I was thinking. Especially after the way she left. I just don;t see it.
Spoon left to go to greebay, Griffen is retiring after 100 yrs in broadcasting>
Tell us something we don't already know.
I agree with the previous posters, Sherri coming back to KTBS would be really unlikely considering she quit once (or threatened to quit but stayed after they gave her more $$$) Then she quit this last time over having to do more work (anchoring & handling the webmedia duties). Can't see KTBS paying her to simply come back for wkends just to read prompter and chat it up with whomever the weather-person would be. Wouldn't add up.
Exactly. Have you read that job description? It says Weekend Anchor/Producer/Reporter. May as well add videographer and editor to it. Since Sherri quit over the added work load as main anchor she surely isn't going to take on this position with all of these extra duties.
Hah! Betcha "videographer" falls under "other duties as assigned".
I can see it now. Have a editor below the news desk so they can edit their video during commercial breaks.
Someone wrote this a couple of weeks ago:
Tim Fletcher is the Sports Director for KTBS 3 News—going to become the Director of Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission. http://shreveportbossiersports.com/
Is it true?
Judy Wagoner is so hot. The other spokes babes need to lay off the marshmallows and nachos for breakfast.
That's why they have a desk to hide behind.
Does anyone know when is Bob Griffin's last day?
Haven't heard yet. I saw Bob filling in on sports Wednesday now that Spoon's gone.
Hate to hear Griff is leaving but heck isn't he like 80+ years old? Should bow out gracefully I hope. Is leaving his idea or are they going to make a sponsor-package to sell a "Farewell to Bob Griffin" send-off?
I know KSLA basically said "don't let the door hit yer butt on the way out." That's the kind of "Raycom style" they got going on over there.
What a joke!
I totally agree 4:09. I've been watching a lot more of KSLA for the past year, and their production quality has noticeably declined. I can't believe they have as many on air mess ups as they do and stay either 1st or 2nd in this market. I was on the KSLA website earlier today and see they have about 5 or 6 job openings posted. Looks like folks are on the move away from KSLA again.
I have noticed that myself. Even though KTBS is station of the year, both KTBS and KSLA are getting harder and harder to watch. But this is what you get when you hire people with little or no experience.
FWIW...the "station of the year" via La. Assn of B'casters doesn't mean as much as it used to. If you look at who sits on its board, you'll get an idea of how / why certain stations get accolades and which ones don't.
I hafta say that while Judy does a pretty good job on-air, she really needs to get an update on her look. I haven't seen that much lipliner since the golden age of porn back in the 80's and crazy Shari Warren's on-air days. Older women are much hotter-looking when they don't throw on all that crap and go for a more refined look. Heck...look at her splotchy skin below the neckline. You ain't fooling nobody with all that cougar/barfly war-paint but yerself honey. It may be a professional look but "professional what"? ;)
Your right about that. It's an inside deal. So is the one for Texas. Just a bunch of "good old boys."
i agree with a previous post. The Shreveport stations are getting harder to watch. My family and friends still in Shreveport complain about them all the time. I'm in town once or twice a month and I try to watch all three just to see what's going on. All of them have noticeably declined since I left. Multiple mistakes that used to be grounds for immediate termination are no big deal any more. Now I see what every one is complaining about, and why my old station, which used to be #1 all the time, is no longer #1 in the market.
I used to watch more news locally but in the last couple years or so I've watched less and less. I think I tune in to see what the weather forecast will be out of habit. But other than that I really don't watch much. I will agree with others that some of the looks of the newsfolks is pretty dated. Course it is the South so I guess overdone make-up is normal. I'm not from here but that's my take.
It's not just a southern thing. Over done makeup is a broadcast thing. I know broadcasters in every region of the country and they do it all over. Anchors tend to use a lot more makeup then reporters no matter their age or their region.
I'm not from here either and I don't like the local news here any more. It was pretty good when I first moved here, but its really gone down in the past few years. I don't remember my home market having as much turn over as they do here. I also don't remember them having as many "f" ups as they do here. I guess that's what happens when you come from a Top 10 market to a market in the 80's.
As for appearances, I have to say that southern gals seem to pile on the make up and hair more than other places I used to live in the midwest. As for goof-ups, I suppose it's because of not enough experienced people or the tech setups aren't right. I don't know too much about the inner workings of TV but I do think it has something with the way they either train their people or don't have enough people to do the jobs necessary to avoid the mess ups.
I have to disagree with you on the makeup 5:49. I'm from the Upper Midwest and a lot of gals in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin use just as much makeup as the gals here. And I'm not just talking about anchors and reporters don't you know.
You are absolutely right about the goof-ups. So many experienced people have been run off from here and technical support is minimal at best.
Fletcher isn't going anywhere. Unless management continues to screw him over. Word is, Leslie left with little to no warning, and every prospective replacement candidate has been shot down, leaving Tim basically on a "work all day, every day" situation. They're surely looking to underpay (shocker, eh?).
What about having Bob fill in on sports like he did the other day. What is Bob's last day any way?
Maybe KTBS can bring Tony Taglavore or Darrell Rebouche out of retirement. LOL
Tony is cool and I would love to see him back on air. But Darrell on the other hand, is one of the worst people I have ever worked with. Darrell has a horrible attitude and reputation. Plus he has burned all his bridges here. First he was run off from KSLA then KTBS. Darrell was given the choice to "voluntarily" quit KTAL with a severance package or be fired. That's why he is no longer in broadcasting.
Actually Rebouche left KSLA due to the actions of his former boss Bob Griffin. Griff was way outta line and those who remember what happened couldn't blame Darrell one single bit. Rebouche could've handled it differently but knowing the circumstances you really couldn't blame him.
So is that what turned Rebouche into a giant douche?
Rebouche has always been a douche and where else would Tim Fletcher go?
Hell, I'd rather see Al Pearce come back than either one of those guys.
What about rehiring that goofy sports guy KTBS had 20 years ago when the Pirates were here? Big guy. Dark curly hair. Drove a little Miata convertible. Was his name Sam? I really don't remember.
You must be talking about Sam Schacter (sic?), I think he lived in Minden, LA
If ya'll want goofy, then why not hire good ol' boy, Dan Walters, who does all those wonderful Wray Ford commercials?
God no! I can't stand Snookie's big bloated orange dad. Every time I see a Rountree Ford spot come on I immediately change the channel.
Mr. Bobble-Head Dan Walters..I was in Dallas at a sportsbar and one of his TV spots came on. I overheard a couple folks commenting on the very same thing (orange skin, schmucky carsales pitchman, etc.) Guess he must really know how to convince car dealers he's the guy to use for their advertising. But viewers don't seem to care too much for his style. Go figure!
Wow, it really is a small world. I had an identical experience at a sports bar in Atlanta. They don't like him over there either. I don't understand why they brought him back after all these years. He's horrible. But then again, so are the guys in Rountree's service department. I'll walk before for I ever set foot on Rountree's lot ever again.
So tell us how you really feel about Dan Walter's and Rountree. Seriously though, I fell the same way about both.
Anyone have any updates on Griff's and Spoon's replacements? Any good prospects yet or are they still rejecting everyone?
I knew a guy who was a car salesman at a dealership in Atlanta, TX a few years back. They had Dan Walters doing their TV ads. My pal told me that Walters had them commit to spending high 6 figures for a year on TV alone. They were about half-way through their contract when the dealership declared bankruptcy, due in no small part to their extended TV ad campaign which according to my carsales buddy, failed miserably. Walters then went to Champion Ford and basically made the same deal.
I'll tell you someone who was really good years ago... Steve Nance. I think he got disgusted with how things are/were run at KTBS, so he left.
How about both Dan Walters and Al Pearce co-anchoring sports? The audience could vote on which one had more to drink before the telecast.
If they did hire Al and Dan they could rebrand KTBS sports as Drunk and Drunker.
Anybody remember how years ago there was a weathercaster named John Rasmussen who would have people send in odd objects that he would use as weatherboard pointers? That sticks in my mind as pretty goofy.
Goofy no. Mr. Rogers like yes.
I worked at two stations in this market, and all I can say is they don't understand how ridiculously irrelevant all of them are becoming. I used to shoot for news, and I don't ever watch a newscast anymore. I get my local news from KTBS's website, and have to contain myself half of the time with idiotic headlines and non-stories... But then again, it's all just filler content anymore. But why would I watch the news anymore anyway? There are still some good reporters and photogs around, but they don't get much support from management so they can't do their job as well as they could. And with video on the web becoming ever more popular, the traditional TV experience is changing. I watch all TV on either Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, or other streaming option. So I'm NEVER exposed to local ads anymore. That's only going to become more and more of a trend... I mean, think about it... Let's say you watch ABC primetime TV... With traditional TV you get local spots interspersed with the national spots... But what if you watch the same show on Hulu? No local spots. So why WOULDN'T I want to do that? Local spots are so horribly atrocious I would do ANYTHING to get out of watching them. If I have to put up with TV spots at least I can suffer through something with high production value... But those trends are only going to increase, especially as web TV becomes more and more popular. It may not become THE trend, but I can say that a certain segment of the audience is going to leave the traditional TV experience forever in favor of streaming and other options which don't require the torture that is local advertising.
10:23 I agree with you 100%. I am one of your former co-workers who has also thankfully gotten out of the business. Our local spots are so antiquated, and annoying. Plus traditional broadcasting is becoming more an more irrelevant. I watch as little of the local stations and news as possible. I can barely make it through the A block and weather then immediately change the channel or go to HULU, Netflex, and Amazon IV.
FWIW... looks like KSLA has lost another on-air person. Word has it that Summer Knowles is going to work for CBS station in Miami. IMHO she wasn't all that impressive as a reporter, just cold-as-ice eye-candy. Seems like they took her off anchoring and back to reporting and in about a year's time after that, she's outta here. Can't blame her.
P.S. on the Rasmussen thing... it was GOOFY!
While local TV may appear irrelevant as far as the bigger picture goes; local TV's focus is and always has been about making money. Given the demographics of this market, there's still a sizeable number of eyeballs that tune in to local news out of habit. Sure, a growing number of folks are migrating to online TV / video but broadcast TV is still a viable medium for advertising dollars and that's the bottomline. Local spot/ad dollars account for probably 40 percent of local ad revenues with regional & national making up the other 60 percent. If you're Proctor & Gamble, Kroger or Six Flags and you want to get fast mkt penetration, local broadcast TV is the fastest way to do that. Irrelevancy to news seekers doesn't matter and it honestly never did.
While I understand your perspective, I think traditional TV is in danger of going the way of the newspaper industry. How many people under 30 do you know who actually read the paper anymore? Where do most get their news? Online. I agree with what you are saying, but only think it applies for the next 10-20 years. Everything in society is undergoing rapid, seismic changes. But not the broadcasting industry. I get it. I mean, in the grand scheme of things it was only yesterday when every station was forced to upgrade to HD. Why push the envelope? But the truth is that as Gen Y grows up, do you really think they are going to respond to local advertising as it currently exists? I'm certainly no advertising expert. I'm a content-creator. I just think it just needs to be discussed.
TV lived by the adage: "The medium IS the message." But as you pointed out, that's no longer true. However, those who run TV are slow adopters on a local level. Consider this: used to be that a majority of local stations were owned by local people. Today, nationwide. . . there are maybe less than a dozen stations that can boast that. KTBS is still owned by one family and I suppose it will continue that way for some time.
You'd think content would matter but local origination is minimal yet that is what people would respond to. Yet ALL stations are more about aggregated content and less about creating their own.. and by content.... I mean quality, thoughtful content...not just regurtiated press releases and police blotter headlines.
Folks in the TV biz these days are just hoping they can make it through the next decade. Their short-term thinking is what is their biggest Achille's heel. Otherwise they'd be ramping up the new era of broadcasting with hyper-local, eschewing rehashed headlines, net-feeds and non-news.
TV will become more weblike in the near future. Pretty soon they'll be broadcasting in 4G / Skype.
From where I see it, most corporate-owned stations are pretty much cookie-cutter in the way they do things. Everything is managed by spreadsheet & quarterlies. Content is dictated by corporate consultants and there is nothing new. In fact local stations seem to go out of their way to try and emulate network looks, styles & feels. No one really stands out that much except for on-air personalities that can either make or break a brand. KSLA is all about Storms, KTAL ... anyone's guess... KTBS is St Judes & Expert panel of the week & community caravans ( thinly disguised sponsorships tool ). The way I see it, the only way a station can survive is by creating broadcast as a "loss-leader" and using "value-added" as a way to replace lost traditional revenues. Funny thing is that they cram sooo much shit on their webpages that it frustrates the hell out of viewers who go there. If TV types were more proactive, they could've owned the internet. Instead they're playing "catch-up" and it's a frickin' mess the way they're going about it.
The so-called expert panels that KTBS features, have to pay for the right to go on air and give their expert opinions and analysis.
I think that's what the poster meant by "thinly disguised sponsorship packages".
12:02 is correct regarding KSLA's obsession with storms. If it rains more than two drops, they go nuts with all of the "potential" tornados that could occur. It is extremely annoying to watch the banners constantly being shown, as well as, having a met to interrupt the show. Sorry, KSLA, but not every storm is a Category 5.
I second that 9:14. When any weather comes around the Mets at KSLA starts foaming at the mouth. They cut into programming, but KTBS and KTAL wait to see if the weather is severe enough to cut in.
Yeah, KSLA tends to over-dramatize the weather in the ArkLaTex. Gets ridiculous sometimes.
Yeah, I agree with the previous few posts. KSLA goes entirely overboard about "storms". Stormtracker Steve and his stepfather, Ed Duranzcik - both too obsessed with a few rain drops with a little wind.
Speaking of Eddie D. anyone know where he's landed? Last I heard he had landed in Alexandra, but that was like a year and a half, maybe two years ago.
I think Ed does PT contract weather work with Ernie Etheridge out in west S'port. He was doing PT fill-in in Alexandria for awhile too.
The thing I miss the least about being a photographer... Weather video... Because apparently people forget what rain looks like.
I mean, I get coverage of severe weather damage. That's understandable. But anytime it rains do you REALLY have to remind people what it looks like? Oh wait... I almost forgot... It's not about real news... Just filler content.
Welcome to the club 10:41. I dealt with the same thing at my station. Remember those frantic phone calls saying "Get here asap. We need weather video." 80-90% of the time they wind up using the video I shot from the front door or back door of the station. 10-20% of the time they would use storm damage from around town. It was a huge waste of time.
Maybe KSLA should change its slogan to Rain Drop Tracker Steve.
I totally agree with the previous few posts. Way too much over- sensationalizing a little rain.
Or how about "Drip-tracker Steve"?
KSLA: We Track Puddles!
Good one @2:53. LMAO
Heck, the way KSLA goes on about their weather radar graphics, you'd think this was James Cameron's 3D release of Avatar.
Anybody have an scoops/predictions on the new sports person and weekend anchor on KTBS?
Yeah, what is going on? Things have gone dead quiet about the possible replacements.
Who did KTBS hire to replace Griff and Spoon? Both positions have been removed from the jobs list on KTBS' website.
Maybe pantyhose boy is the replacement.
If they took both job postings down they have hired someone to replace Griff and Spoon. Who are they and when are they starting?
I imagine we'll learn soon enough when they get here in a couple weeks or so.
No word about Griffin leaving? I'd have figured if that was the case that there'd be some sponsorship pkg sales for a "Bob Griffin Retirement" tribute. That would seem likely give that this is KTBS afterall. Anybody know anything?
You know it. Those pimps at KTBS will turn that sucka out.
Well U know Griffin will take whatever he can even though he probably won't want to leave. I'm surprised Griffin doesn't sell adspace on his clothing.
Bob's retiring by chose, not by force. Good thing he is there to fill in on sports or Fletch would be doing everything his self.
Whoever the replacement is, it will not be panty hose boy. He is on thin ice as it is. It would be funny though, him doing sports.
Who is panty hose boy?
So who are the newbies and when are they starting?
They are talking about Chris Redford, who can't speak and sure could not do sports.
Probably will be whoever is leaving KNOE last week.
Yeah, what's the deal with that any way? Seems like when someone leaves KNOE they automatically go to KTBS. I've seen people swap stations but never anything like this.
KNOE is a crap place to work and anyone there who leaves for KTBS feels glad to get the chance. It's been stated here many times that KTBS adds on a lot of extra duties to staffers and unless you find your groove, you get burned out and move on when your contract is up (that is if you even get a contract).
How long are KTBS's contract generally? And once a reporter's contract is over, can they sign with another station in the same market?
Two years is standard for contracts in broadcasting. Used to all on-air had contracts, but KTBS isn't offering contracts to all their on-air any more. Most of these new ones are freelance.
The older ones who they don't care if they leave or not are also not under contract.
Contracts are standard at all stations except KTBS.
I believe KTBS has ALL employees (both on-air and sales staff) sign no-compete clauses. It was a running joke at the radio station I used to work at that any new sales person at KTBS must not know any better to work there.
I've seen so many on-air and AE's bounce between stations over the years I don't have enough fingers and toes to count them on.
If I remember correctly, several years ago Tim Fletcher left KTAL for KTBS. I think Todd Warren left KTBS for KTAL, also.
@4:57 You are correct. Fletch was originally at KTAL then moved over to KTBS. He has been there ever since. Todd Warren was originally at KTBS for several years back in the Al Pierce, Liz Swain, Ed Baswell, and Eddie D. days. Todd meet and married a local girl during that time. He left KTBS for a station in Ohio. After Nexstar took over KTAL a few years later he came back and has been at KTAL ever since.
Saw that KTBS sports is coming out of WVUE in New Orleans. Is Fletch on vacation?
