Found a little more info about Chris Huston, like the fact that he got laid off about the same time Walker got canned.
I wonder if they actually posted the job. The GM did a great job hiring Michelle without consulting with anyone. A great decision that turned out to be. HAHA. I hope for KTAL's sake, he did a better job making this decision and Chris Huston is a good guy and a good News Director.
In my opinion, KTAL needs to:
1. Get all new anchors
2. Get new set
3. Get new graphics
4. Get all new mets with experience
5. Get HD news
6. Get midday news
They have to do all this if they want to even compete with KSLA and KTBS!
Wow...what a list on what KTAL needs to do. That isn't happening. Even if it did, KTAL still couldn't compete with them.
Todd Warren Needs to move on! He's does not matter as much as KTAL thinks. Take is inflated income and use it to buy a younger/better Met, and a reporter. The numbers aren't lying. He's an eyesore.

I'm crossing my fingers that Chris turns out to be a good ND. He could not be any worse then Willy.

So does this make the fourth or fifth ND since Mark took over as GM?
This is only the second news director hired by Mark.
KTAL improving... here's me NOT holding my breath. It's NEXSTAR everybody!!!
Chris will be the fifth ND's in six years. Not a good sign for any station. Even for Nexstar.

Welcome to Shreveport, La. and good luck at KTAL. (You will need it and that's no lie.)
In the meantime, you may want to not lock yourself into any long-term rental leases here as KTAL has a history of people bailing or getting s_itcanned in less than a year. KTAL sucks sooo bad that if you walked around the building in bare-feet, you'd have hickies on your soles. (This is no lie.)
I hope you're a patient person with a sense of humor... because if you're serious about trying to improve anything...you'll wind up going to the convenience store parking lot next door to buy crack in considerable quantities. (Or if you become buds with MEEShale, you could always ask her to front you a loratab or whatever she has access to these days).
I don't know you from Adam, but if you came here out of desperation...you may want to reconsider and enlist for active duty with the La. National Guard, 'cuz walking point in Khandahar is a breeze compared with the nonsense you'll experience from management, the airstaff egos and other junk that awaits you in the wings. ( And don't even get me started on the sales staff trying to get news to promo stuff during a live shot...)
But if you hang in there...you may find a way out... hopefully not in a straightjacket or under heavy sedation. Oh and btw...you'll have to split your focus between Shreveport & Texarkana.... that'll just make getting any decent ratings damned near impossible because you will never adequately serve either metro that way to garner much audience cume.

P.S. BTW...there's a vo-tech school nearby...maybe you can squeeze in a welding class so you'll have a Plan B.

KTAL should be considered a last resort for employment if McDonalds won't hire you.
What happened last nigh during the 10 o'clock newscast? It looked like shit! Someone had better be fired over that one.
When I stumble across KTAL... I ask myself: "Why do they even bother?" You don't have to be a TV expert to understand their problems. They would make more money selling infomercial time probably. Pathetic.
From Medialine; CHRIS HUSTON joins his third Nexstar station as news director. Chris has been the ND for KIDK-TV in Idaho Falls, ID, but his job was eliminated when that Fisher Broadcasting owned CBS affiliate entered into a shared services agreement with KIFI-TV. Chris had been there for about two years, and has previously been an ND for Nexstar's WJET-TV in Erie, PA, and KFDX-TV in the Wichita Falls, TX market. He's also run newsrooms in Florida, North Carolina, and Texas....in all, 22 years as an ND. He started his career on-air, and has worked in Dallas, Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Tucson, and El Paso. He replaces WILLY WALKER who left last month after just over two years as ND for this NBC affiliate.
So far everyone likes Chris. After two years of hell any one would be better then what he replaced. Think I'll stick around a little long now.
Let's hope the honeymoon lasts awhile. Maybe this time KTAL got it right.
