The title reads, "And the November LR Numbers Are In."

Someone at KARK needs to take a course in "Audio Equalization" and fix the problems that the news readers are having. At least two of the mics sound like the anchors are talking into tin cans. Simas always sounds better then the others. Tonight at 5, Sheats sounded terrible.

Jancey sounded (and looked!) great last night. You need to chillax.

THV is tanking. Aside from possible good numbers this coming month because of curious new viewers I don't think it will last.

That is all it was, curiosity. They will see a fancy new set didn't change their quality of work.

People will read through the FACT they hired two little girls who are playing TV. Do they even own suits?

At 1:04 AM, January 20, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I saw that Wednesday night. It was pitiful. Are they working free? There are those out there that will do it free just to be on television.

We were treated to Stretch-O-Vision early Wednesday morning at that school. It's wide-screen, but not even close to HD.

At 11:28 AM, January 20, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is THV even trying to hire someone with a degree in communications?

The two new young ladies make it hard to watch their news.

I can tell this is their first job on the air. If I can, so can everyone else.

THV needs to let Meredith Mitchell do it ALL! She's the hottest thing going in the LR market!

At 9:52 PM, January 20, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Meredith needs some coaching. Listening to her talk is just too painful. I always change the station when I see she's reporting the weather.

At 10:37 PM, January 20, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

meredith is cute don't get me wrong, but not that cute to deserve all that.

she has improved so so much over the years and her appearance has too.

she is young and still has work to do.

At 6:14 AM, January 21, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have never met her but people I know that do know her say she is a really sweet lady and has come a long way since her first appearance. She is always smiling and a credit to KTHV. Also, Tom Brannon is the cornerstone of the morning show and when bad weather hits, he doesn't try to scare you with theatrics that you see on
KARK.

Why are the local stations trying to find their Erin Andrews? I am all for female sports reporters/anchors if they know what they are talking about & sound like grown ups. They are all painful so watch. And this is coming from a female.

At 12:28 AM, January 26, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Aiyana Cristal with Today's THV is terrible.

She mispronounces every other word and you can tell she doesn't know what she's talking about.

She can't go off prompter for that reason.

If I every keep it tuned to THV during her sports cast it's to laugh or nod my head.

Was she a Wess Moore hire?

At 1:41 AM, January 26, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KTHV!. I.m switching!!! Hiring people that cannot do their job, female anchors that have the same hairdo, and usually wear the same colors, a weathergirl wears a ponytail 99% of the time. Craig, we love you, but, you are not a main news anchor. You belong on thv morning shift. The place would fall apart without Dawn, Ed, Wess, and Ashley. Enough said!!!

At 8:48 AM, January 26, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Meredith does need help with the hair, I will agree with that. She seems to think that a ponytail is professional, but I believe that is the case if you work in a gym, not a tv station. Sometimes, change is good.

How long will it be before jancey decides to give up the anchor desk for motherhood? Who is next in line? Jessica or Wendy ?

At 8:44 PM, January 26, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jessic Dean does a great job. I think she will move up and quickly. KARK was smart to snatch her up.

At 8:47 PM, January 26, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wendy will be next. Way better than Dean.

THV is making some bad decisions and everyone is taking turns jumping ship as their contracts come up for renewal.

At 10:58 PM, January 26, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jessica Dean is a breath of fresh air in the LR market. Yes, KARK did well in selecting her to be on air. She will advance to the prime anchor spot after Jancey Sheats has another kid.

No matter what you say, Meredith Mitchell has come a long way since her debut. She is always upbeat and comes across very well.

Tom Brannon is the life of the morning show. I don't think that Craig would like it there and being up-staged by Tom.

The Little Rock market has an abundance of talent. If you don't think so, just travel across this country and see some of the newscasts some markets put out.

We are indeed fortunate to have the people on the air here, despite the theatrics during storms.

At 5:52 AM, January 27, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Both Wendy and Jessica were very smart hires for KARK.  They're both extrememly talented.

But here's the thing about Jessica...  She lacks the Je ne sais quoi that all the other anchors at 4 have.  There's something unapproachable and elitist and almost irritating about her on the desk.

In the field, she's great, but that doesn't automatically equal great anchor.   Her voice still needs work as does her look.  I've never met either of these ladies.  I'm sure they're both lovely.  That's just my observation as a viewer.

Then there is Liz Massey though she is not as bad as Pam.

I think Morgan Adsit does a great job covering sports at FOX16. She knows her stuff she grew up the kid of a coach. He still holds records in the state of Ohio in basketball.

This is not Morgan but a co workers of hers. If you want to find out what she knows about sports talk to her...She's very friendly and a great person!

At 3:00 PM, January 28, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree, there is some talented sports women in this market. I enjoy Kerri O'Hara at KARK and Adsit is pretty good too. I could see both moving to news in the future.
(Being a women) I'm a big fan of David Raath at fox, very cute and very good. Also wish Jason Harper would make a return, talk about friendly on the eyes. Alright, I'll stop now, I'm starting to sound sappy.

Any numbers for the weekends?

I'm watching Channel 11's anchor tonight saying Buddy Villines name as Vill-lions and slaughtering the name of Julian Assange.

It's A-sange, honey. Say the end like the end of "Orange." Geez. Nothing like your network doing 40 minutes in a world exclusive and you apparently didn't watch it.

I'm beginning to wonder if the level of intelligence among the reporters and other on-air people at 11 isn't actually a plot to try and shore up Craig's credibility.

At 10:27 PM, January 30, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If 11 wins the weekend, I'm buying the next round.

The weekend anchor chicky just said the Huskie's of the Iditarod are braving the cold. It's the human's that don't have a natural coat to keep them warm, you goof!

I notice they didn't put the name "Iditarod" in lest she butcher that. I've never watched this person--is it just a bad week?

Who cares if you have HD if your news product is a joke? And I'm not just talking about the weekend. What a bunch of poor inexperienced dolts they've hired for reporters. Don't they know that weak reporters lead to weak anchors and weak product?

Channel Four's weekend crew is hands down best if not for Clausen and Sheets, would be the best during the week.

Television Station managers (4 or 16) because he has not worked there.

Why does one of these stations not approach Andy Pearson to anchor their evening newscast. He helped increase ratings at 11. He has won a couple of emmys for his work.

I think if Bob Clausen was not the main anchor at 6 and 10 pm their ratings would improve.

At 9:34 PM, January 31, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Emmy awards are what define a good anchor, the recent harping on Bob Clausen doesn't make much sense since he is an Emmy winner himself.

At 10:20 PM, January 31, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have lots of awards. All of them are in the closet or the garage.

That said, I doubt if Bob Clausen has done an investigative story on his own. He may have been part of a team that won an emmy. I hope I'm wrong.

It seems to me he's always more interested in looking like Mr. Cool. You know, the, "I'm bored with this and bored with you" look. I hear Bob is a really nice guy and I really liked him back when he was on the morning. But, both he and ol' what's his name on Seven seem to have checked their personalities at the door when the went on evenings. Oh yeah... Scott.

If Bob had one of those old hats and a radio watch he could be Dick Tracy... and I'm jealous.

Wow, lots of Anonymous comments... I was surprised to see that KATV had slipped to #2. I thought they were a solid 1. All 4 stations are doing well, though, IMO. FWIW, I like 7's news and weather, and 4's sports.

I was grossed out this morning on KARK. It seems that the two girls and Matt just had to talk about farts. This was one of the most offensive things I have seen on local television. I mean, do they really have to talk about breaking wind and smelling farts on television while I am eating breakfast or any other time.

I am surprised that management lets them get away with this. I guess this is where local television has stooped to to get viewers. Such juvenile behavior is not appealing to mature adults.

And to top it off, they all had to try and talk over each other.

Did anyone else happen to see this? What is your opinion?

At 7:22 AM, February 02, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Couldn't disagree more. I love the new format on 4. I saw that segment yesterday you're talking about... They weren't just talking about farting. It was a story about a proposed law. Get a grip.

Well, you must not comprehend what you hear. They spent twice as ling talking about people in the studio farting and then Mosler pops his little "funny" about where they come from.

You need to get out of your junior high school mentality. The same guy that said "Martin Luther Coon" and suffered no severe consequences. I would say that a BIG apology was in order for that. What is he trying to do, push the envelope as far as he can. It may have been entertaining to you, but for an adult, it was down right offensive. But, if management wants him to do that, he will have all the kids watching in the morning.

I have to agree with the first poster. I was offended.

Don't know about the original poster, but It was the last time I watched that station in the morning with those people. I am sure that the other stations love it.

I don't understand what the fuss is all about. It's morning news! As one poster put it, "thanks for watching."

Andy Pearson is poison to the newsroom?
Well, judging on the maturity levels and attitudes of this blog there's a lot of people at all levels of the local news stations here who apparently have a problem deciding what they want to do in their chosen vocation who need to check their own poison level.
As a viewer, he was not poison to me and not poison to any of the ratings to the newscasts he was involved with.

At 7:40 PM, February 03, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ABC National News did the same story about the anti-farting legislation.

They didn't chat about it, though.

poison in the newsroom behind the camera? I don't know anything about that.

As a viewer he was a good looking guy with a good voice and seemed credible.

he did gain too much weight toward the end.

Is Melissa Dunbar Gates the new morning anchor at THV. It seems to be the "Melissa reads the news 2-hours"

Are they pushing Alyson Courtney to a smaller role?

At 11:46 PM, February 04, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alyson's seems to be a nice lady, but her voice is grating on the nerves.

Also, someone needs to tell whomever does the graphics that there is no such time as 12AM or 12PM. It's either 12 Noon or 12 Midnight. On the 6PM news show, the time line for tomorrow's temps included a time of 12AM.

I'm just saying if you are going to do it, do it right.

Just saying.

I think KTHV spends WAY too much time trying to be funny & pushing the Facebook question thing in the morning. The forced humor forces me to change the channel. When I do I go KARK (1st), KATV (2nd).

At 1:55 PM, February 06, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I got so sick of the facebook questions I too have turned it to other local stations.

At 10:40 PM, February 06, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"They didn't chat about it, though."

Then you must be deaf. The chat about it lasted 40 seconds. That's chat.

Very bad taste. Very elementary attempt at humor.

At 3:54 PM, February 07, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was talking about the national people-- they didn't chat about it.

At 7:38 PM, February 07, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alas, thou complainest too much about gas chat. Oh the disgrace... :40 seconds of flatulence talk. Aren't we talking about a three hour newscast? There must have been some news, weather, and traffic during those three hours? In fact I'll bet the majority of the newscast was news, weather, and traffic. This IS morning news. EVERY once in while they may go a little irreverent. But hell, this isn't Howard Stern. If you are bailing on any newscast because of :40 seconds of gas chat you need to stick to the PBS news hour. You'd like it. It's the news hour for people who don't fart.

At 11:03 PM, February 07, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To the "Great Defender" of KARK. Tonight's newscast included the graphic which read, "Are you getting tire of the snow."

Now, justify that and tell us how it is possible to get that on the air.

BTW, said talking about farting, not doing it. So lame, so elementary. I can see you enjoy grade-school humor. Are you still in grade school and just hang around a tv station as a wannabee?

At 12:27 AM, February 08, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Now, justify that and tell us how it is possible to get that on the air."
Oh, it's possible. I witness spelling errors on all the local stations frequently. ABC News, NBC, CBS, Fox News, CNN and even the Washington Post have made recent silly (stupid) spelling errors. These mistakes shouldn't happen.
But let's get back to flatulence. No I'm not in grade school anymore. Majored in journalism in college. I had to read a lot. Not the theme of one of Shakespeare's great soliloquies, this little sop to the commoners must have set them rocking in the aisles: ‘A man may break a word with you, sir; and words are but wind; Ay, and break it in your face, so he break it not behind.’ (Comedy of Errors III i 75-76). If a brief mention of the subject is good enough for Shakespeare then perhaps you can tolerate :40 seconds on the morning news. But if you cannot. You have other options.

At 1:44 AM, February 09, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Majored in Journalism. Wow!

I still believe you are in school (not college) because your syntax is off and your sentence structure needs work.

Discounting the lack of proper punctuation, I give you a "C-" in that posting.

Stick with it and don't let anyone tell you that you can't make it.

THV has lost 3 really good people in the past 2 weeks - 2 today from the news department. This make a total of 7 since December that have left for better opportunities, some went across the street! The three that left had a combined 45 years experience at THV. Is it sinking yet?

What happened to Aaron Nolan doning sports with Kark and then going to KNWA during the middle of October when he was in the middle of doing cohosting of highschool football . I thought he had potential to be something special and steal the clout from KATV and covering razorback football . Now they have O'hair where she mostly leads into an already written script from razorback nation. Why even have her if she knows nothing about sports. This was a really big time downgrade forn KARK and should of made Neil Sumerlate their lead sports guy on Kark after Aaron left.
