U of A and KATV Reach Agreement on the Next Voice of the Razorbacks

The Morning News reports the University of Arkansas and KATV have come to an agreement in which Chuck Barrett will become The Voice of the Arkansas Razorbacks. Below is an excerpt from the article:

Chuck Barrett's job description is about to get more extensive.

Multiple sources close to the situation said Thursday that the University of Arkansas and KATV have agreed in principle that Barrett will become the school's football play-by-play announcer.

One source familiar with the negotiations said that both parties spoke several times by phone this week and came to an agreement satisfactory to the UA and KATV. The source said the details of the contract for Barrett, already the play-by-play voice of Arkansas baseball, would be finalized soon.

A formal announcement of the next "Voice of the Razorbacks" could come as early as today, but is expected by early next week. Barrett, under the tentative agreement, would replace Mike Nail, who filled in on an interim basis last season after longtime announcer Paul Eells' unexpected death last summer.

KATV had backed Scott Inman, one of the station's main news anchors, for the position. But Arkansas raised what it considered reasonable objections to Inman and threw its support behind Barrett, who also hosts the daily Northwest Arkansas radio show Sports Rap. Mainly, Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles voiced concern about Inman's inability to spend enough time around the team because he anchors nightly newscasts in Little Rock.

KATV General Manager Dale Nicholson apparently signed on to Barrett after the parties' phone communications, one source said. Previously, the parties had communicated through four letters and a May 22 phone conversation between Broyles and Nicholson.

I think any number of high school announcers around the state would have been a better selection than this.
His voice reminds me of someone scratching fingernails on a chalk board. It will be next to impossible to listen 3 and half to 4 hours every Saturday.

This dude looks like some hick redneck loser. Why would I want to listen to something like this try to describe a sporting event?

All Frank had to say was "If Inman becomes "the voice" KATV loses Razorback Sports. Case closed thank you for playing, have nice day, you lose Dale.

Chuck Barrett is a JFB and UA bootlicker. That is why he got the job. Inman would represent the UA much better and be more refined than Chuck "Grin and Barrett"

It's just because he doesn't have a third leg like the chicken does.

If you ever listen to the Razorback report on the radio, you know that Chuck is too lazy to even enunciate. I guess he'll fit right in with most of the rest of us.

I still say we can solve all of the drama by doing one thing: FIRING HOUSTON NUTT!

That pretty much sums up UA fans anyway.

Arkansas Business had another story today about the deal maybe being illegal anyways, since the UA didn't put it out for bids.

I always wondered the same thing. Shouldn't the UA be trying to get the best deal possible?

Hey you idiots,

I told you there was nothing you could do. All Frank had to do was to play hard ball and the job was going to be mine.

I can say whatever the hell I want and it doesn't matter because I can get away with it because Frank believes whatever I say.

I will continue to bash people on the air and I will ruin them.

I got what I wanted and there is nothing you can do.

Sincerely,

Chuck Barrett

Personally I think that Scott would be a better choice, but I'm glad he did not get the job, because he is just too good for the likes of Frank Broyles, Scott has class like Andy Peterson does, and he speaks the truth for the listeners .

I predict that after McFadden leaves, Houston will be fired. He's an above average motivator and a below average coach. And he is apparently an adulterer. I mean is ANYONE buying the 2,000 phone calls to that news chick as being for community service purposes? What a liar !

So, now that Barrett is the voice of the Hogs, will he give up his pitiful excuse for a sports show?

I don't know which decision was smarter? Frank hiring Chuck B. or Vince Mcmahon holding a tribute for Chris Benoit and having former and current wrestlers saying how great a dad and husband he was after he had just strangled his wife, smothered his kid, then hung himself in his weight room.
