Several reliable tipsters have e-mailed in and have said that KATV Hog Central reporter Rusty Jackson has been fired! On KATV's website, the opening for a sports reporter has been posted.

If that's true, then it's the best move KATV has made in a LONG time. His nightly rants from Fayetteville were embarrasing.
If they really wanted to improve their station, they would fire Scott Inman.
There are a number of people at ch.7 who should be let go, however, Scott Inman is not one of them
bummer that a guys dream was interrupted by a few stupid comments...sports guys can get away with alot, but he pushed it too much.

RJ was really doing well in Fayetteville and covering the Hogs. I hope he lands on his feet.
Maybe Clay Henry or Dudley Dawson could replace Rusty as Hog Central.
Usually all Rusty did was interview them anyway.
Jackson is a fun guy, but he treated his job more like a playground than a profession. He'll learn from this and be better because of it.

He made several inappropriate comments on air...including saying he had a "man crush" on Pelphrey. Surprised he wasn't fired months ago.

What's wrong with saying he had a "man crush". I've never seen him on the air but it sounds like he has a lot of personality and may be fun to watch. Why is that a bad thing?
I thought it was pathetic when Rusty basically called that coach from South Alabama a liar. He said somethng like "that coach said he quit for family reasons, but I'm going to find out the real reason. I'm getting to the bottom of this!" Really classy. Did Rusty drink? That is a serious question.

If the "man crush" comment is truly what somebody considered the last straw, or even "are you going to stay for me than a day?" (actually that's pretty hilarious, God forbid andyone crack a joke in Broyles' general direction), this has got to be one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen.

Here's how it went down. (one possibility)
Rusty makes a remark.
Broyles calls Dale the first.
Dale tells Dixon to put a stop to it.
Dixon mentions it in passing to Rusty.
(Bad ratings come in)
Dale wants to fire somebody. Too lazy to figure out how.
Rusty does it again.
Dale tells Dixon to pull the trigger.
Randy gets off the couch long enough to fire Rusty.
Dale's happy for at least another week.
I assure you Rusty doesn't drink.

Rusty Jackson did an exceptional job while working for KATV. At least he brought some life and personality to such a dull market. I have personally worked with him and know that he has a great work ethic. I feel sorry for the next anchor/reporter that KATV decides to can. Maybe they use the magic 8 ball on Randy's desk to come up with such lame decisions. Good Luck Rusty!

rusty is a good guy and super fun to hang out with. i do agree his on air personality does tend to be one of a "comedian". for example, one night after MNF on 40/29, it was almost 1 am by the time we went on and he had to crack a joke about "Nutt replacing his Dick with a new Johnson" LOL, but who didn't see that coming AND if you ever follow closed captioning, he's written personal ads into his scripts as well. Just you can only see them on CC.
He's a goofball but he's awesome, I missed working with him and if it wasn't for MySpace or Lericos, I still wouldn't even be talking to him probably.
