It's always great to see Beth on the TV. I hope they'll have her back some more.

If Becky wants off they have to bring her back. Tom and Ed are sick of working the weekends.

As a young viewer I enjoyed watching Mrs. Wards shows and even as a young adult I still enjoyed spending part of my lunch hour with her. I think I speak for viewers of all ages, she is greatly missed by her viewers.

It was great to see Beth Saturday night. I hope we are honored with her gracing the our screens for more fill-ins

They only have three weather people, and they're not going to hire a fourth so I hear. The problem is comp time. Each have so much of it that they will not be able to take it unless they have another person fill in. Plus, there's not many other choices out there to fill in. So Beth makes her return on limited basis.

Is it also nice to watch Paul this weekend.

When are they going to hire a weekend anchor? What's the hold up?

That lady looks so pleasant. Glad to see her back!

I remember about 15 years ago, the weather guy at Channel 11 at the time got sick or something moments before the weather segment. Anyway, B.J. was doing the news and when it came time for the weather, he got up, went in front of the green wall, and proceded to do weather, just like the weatherman would - and of course didn't miss a beat in the usual B.J. way - then went to a break after the weather and returned to the anchor chair. As mentioned above, it was nice to see B.J. and Beth back together. I always have heard that B.J. and Beth enjoyed working together and it shows on the air.

b.j. is one of a kind. the man was born to be in television news.

It sure was good to see B.J. and Beth working together. They need to work together again on their own show.

I'll tell you what's nice: to finally log on to this board and hear some positive comments about tv talent. So much of what we do is negative in our careers and it never ceases to amaze me how much of that finds its way to this board.

Changing subjects...Paulson has finally started appearing on KFOR and appeared in an Independence Day parade for the station in Edmond, OK, earlier today with the rest of the evening anchors.

This blog has turned into a THV lovefest/KATV hatefest! Can we get some balance???

At 9:36 AM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The folks at THV have been there a long time. Yes KATV has people that have been there a long time too...but it's people like Casey and Dokes...they're the greatest, but they're not on air folks...like Eells. Now there's a pro. But no wonder it's starting to turn negative a little for the "perennial #1"...It's just time that the big pard faced the reality that Oprah is about it now...I guess he'll be like Frank on the hill, holdin' on for everything. Tradition and the hogs is swell but isn't this state and the needs of Arkansans a little bigger than that?

Not sure if fresh blood at KATV would pull them out, when you've got the hometown folks at THV and the chest beaters at KARK. (Oh I mean brush beaters).

Beth is a sweetheart and B.J. Sams is the greatest. I hope I see Beth more and more.

You people are so shallow. There is no way this many people are posting in support of Beth Ward. Hey Beth, how many people do you have writing good things about you? Or is it you and BJ posting all these positive comments? You'll go to any links to get back on TV. Just a mess.

At 10:18 AM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

OH! By the way. I thought you and BJ were going to write a book about being on Arkansas TV for 100 years? Whatever happened to that idea?

At 12:31 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

While BJ and Beth together on set are a connection to our TV past, the THVers on here are failing to mention that BJ and Beth scored DISMAL ratings for many, many years and were eventually replaced by younger talent....which was the start of THV's rise to where they are now. Before Andy and Dawn led the anchor team....BJ/Beth/Anne together were a ratings joke!

Beth has a great reputation! People seem to have a wide range of opinions about BJ. Regardless...they were anything but a winning anchor team!

You guys wanna see something special, watch what would happen if KATV were able to bring back Gina Kurre. Or, if KARK could put back together the competitive Barnes/Krile/Preston team for a cast or two!

At 12:33 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I should add...those anchors teams were the ones people actually watched!!!

12:31- Don't forget Betsy Pilgrim:)

At 2:11 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Have you checked the rating score for the younger talent who replaced B.J. and Beth? I hear it is DISMAL.

At 2:21 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, it's still dismal. From a 1.5 when BJ and Beth were on the air to hash marks. That show may make $200 in spot revenue. Beth and BJ should go to VTN.

At 3:42 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The preceeding response is pretty typical of this blog spot. Actually Beth and BJ pulled a 6 household rating. The demos always hovered between 3 & 4 for adults and women. But if you really want to see some old timers, look at KATV's 50+ demos. That's always been the big swing. How else could KATV lag behind almost 2 points in some demos and still hanging on to the HH #? Every day you can look in the paper in the obits and say goodbye to another katv viewer. (one viewer at a time).

At 3:54 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What if KATV brought Gina back? What if Edward R. Murrow came back to CBS? You old KATV'ers really slay me. You are like the losers in the new stock market who sit around and say, "man we used to really mop up". Why cant you get it through your thick skulls that someone got the jump on you...and continues to whomp up on you and the big pard. You can yak about tradition til' the cows come home, but it won't make the viewers watch one bit more. And, Barnes Krile and Preston was what??? Maybe they were held up by Barnes' audience he built while at 7. !!!! Krile has better numbers at the low power deal he's on now than when at KARK.

Now that Clausen, he's got it on the ball.

Yes I'm sure Beth Ward took time off from taking care of her sick mother and her recooperating husband to look at this stupid thread. Or even more idiotic, she would actually have the time or give a rip to actually write anything and send it in so you numbnutts could gloat over it. You people need to go torture small animals or something more productive; then reconsider a career in broadcast/journalism...

Speaking of Win Noble, has anyone heard how his court hearing turned out?

At 5:03 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The comment about BJ and dismal ratings, have you checked your morning show numbers? THV had a higher HH rating than 4 and 7 combined. Quit living in the past. You were probably hot stuff in high school, and still bring that up, now that nobody cares. David Letterman was fired as a weatherman early in his career. Wow, he's so dismal.

Go back and check the "11 Action News" ratings...BJ and Beth together...while historical....was never successful in primetime news.

At 5:39 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That was B.J. and Anne. Beth never did prime-time news. Don't you hate when you're mean AND you get your facts wrong?

The person who posted about the morning ratings on KTHV makes a point that is well taken. KTHV always had decent talent, the problem back in the pre-Gannett days was that they had an owner who was unwilling to make significant investments in the news product, and it looked like crap up agains't 4 and 7. But now, you have 3 very competitive stations. In fact, in my opinion, Joseph Allbritton, KATV owner, is beginning to look like the cheap-skate. Last one to still use videotape. Last one to get a DTV signal on the air. I've been inside all 3 L.R. stations. 4 and 11 look good inside and out. Channel 7 looks as bad inside as it does outside. My initial impression of the KATV engineering dept. in the basement, with wires literally taped to the sides of the hallway was that it was nothing short of a miracle that just the sound could get out of that firetrap, much less a picture. Channel 7 ought to build a new complex somewhere in L.R. that has high visibility. I know Allbritton has as much money as the devil has sin, so he could afford it. I think that this could help in taking KATV back to its' glory days and make a big statement to the community that Channel 7 is once again the big dog in town.

"4 and 11 look good inside and out."

Good comments Mediawatcher...I do have to question if you're talking about the KTHV building on Izard Street?? sure you have the right building??:)

I'll say this...I remember when KARK spent the big bucks on their new facility. I remember thinking....new building, but same ol" crap when you tune in Channel 4. What really matters is what the viewers see on TV. The buildings and behind the scenes crap (videotapes, no videotapes, etc.) are a distant second in priority to the on-air product.

Never lose sight of that!

Not an insider here, not even a dog in this hunt, but it was good to see the old guard (Beth and BJ) working together, again. BJ and Beth (together) may not have had earth shattering ratings, but more importantly they did earn the respect of their viewing audience. They were and have always been most professional broadcasters like other names synomous with ark. tv history: Mitchell, Bonner, Woodman, Barnes, Krile, Eells, Cambell, Perme.

At 9:21 PM, July 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You know in NWA KNWA is like KARK, nice new building and great equipment but a hell of a lot of shitty reporters and producers who couldn't find breaking news if a bus ran them over.

At 9:22 PM, July 05, 2006, Blogger Ryan said...

Are you serious? All the stations in that part of the state have bad reporters. It isn't just KNWA-TV.

The comment about BJ and dismal ratings... David Letterman was fired as a weatherman early in his career. Wow, he's so dismal.

With all due respect, neither B.J. or Beth are "early" in their careers, now are they? Not a slam against them, just calling a spade a spade.

At 12:09 PM, July 06, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I still say VTN for BJ and Beth. BJ could sing out of the hymnal and Cora (Beth) could be like Tammye Faye. They could talk about receipes and BJ (Ted on the Mary Tyler Moore Show) could just sit there and laugh. It would pull better numbers than their noon show. Praise Jesus!

At 2:25 PM, July 06, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

BJ's morning show is kicking the others in the rear. All due respect, get your facts right before you post. My point was that Letterman was fired early on, didn't do so great. BJ maybe didn't do great early in his career either, but look at him now. They have huge ratings in the morning on THV.

At 2:29 PM, July 06, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Call a spade a spade? I don't think BJ is doing too bad right now. The HH share for THV this morning is higher than any other newscast in the market, that includes morning and evening. That means it is the most popular newscast in the market right now. So let's call a spade a spade. BJ is doing well. I don't know why you have a problem with it.

I won't sit here and toss mud, I just read through roughly 25 posts that totally kissed rear, and about 15 posts that tore that rear apart.

I will simply say that I dislike Beth Ward as an on-air talent. I dislike her delivery and her demeanor. In a face to face meeting, I perceived her to be a very prideful individual. I also think that botox is a bad look on her.

That is all.

At 4:37 PM, July 06, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

what makes you think VTN would take them?

All of you that are busy slammin' on Beth and BJ, PLEASE get a life and grow up. At the very least they are and will be Arkansas TV icons. Yeah, they may be mature in their years, but are still very entertaining to watch and have a huge following. What do you have? Yeah, thought so. Not much. Now for those of you "never will be's" you're not even good enough to wash Beth or BJ's car much less have an opinion on this blog about a couple local TV icons. Get a life and half a clue before you open your pie hole.

lmdvdrGod's Station?!? I thought 7 was trying to corner that market,(at least in their own minds),looking at some of their promos.

Actually VTN would be a great place for BJ and Beth, if they decided to go there. Mosler and Mayberry do a great job there too.

At 5:53 PM, July 07, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What is so funny about the negative comments on here about BJ and Beth is they couldn't care less. Of all the people on tv in this market, they probably care the least what people are saying.

"Concerning the "open pie hole" remark. Dude this is Arkansas - Market 56-57. BJ and Beth Icons?"

Thank you Mr. Webster for making my point. A representation in the eyes and hearts of Arkansans. It may be market 56 or 57 or whatever, and no they are not Christ, although both are very good christians, but they have earned the right to be considered icons of Arkansas Broadcasting by virtue of time spent. BJ has 50 plus years of Radio/TV broadcasting. Beth, if I'm not mistaking has over 25. Now I realize that not all of that has been in Arkansas.

I would consider Ron Sherman, Tom Bonner, Steve Barnes, Dave Woodman, Paul Eels, even Vic Schedler who has a radio gig at this time. Craig O'Neill is also an icon of broadcasting here in Arkansas. There aren't many who have been in the business as long as some of those mentioned above.

"You THVers act like you're God's station."

I don't think THV considers themselves to be "God's Station" that honor belongs to Dale Nicholson and KATV. By the way, Dale is also an Arkansas Broadcasting Icon.

Of course Fayetteville has some very "green" reporters. It is a college town and a learning experience for the young uns. Much like Jonesboro. Many get the basics there and are able to move on to larger markets to be polished.

This is so typical. Chances are neither BJ or Cora have any idea who Kim Jong-iL is, how many homicides LR has this year, why Huckabee and the Arkansas Times are feuding, immigration issues, gay marriage (other than they know it's the devil), or the party affiliation of their U.S. Senators. This is a joke people. Move on to something that matters or better yet, people that matter. Journalists? They don't even know the meaning.
