Another NWA Chief Met Leaving

This from the tip box: "Charles Salser is leaving 40/29, with his final appearance most likely by late May or early June. He will be pursuing a job in the ministry in Oklahoma. Drew Michaels would most likely be the leading candidate to replace Salser."

Kudos to Charles for dedicating his work towards the Lord. I never really knew the guy, but wish him the best in his new career.

With Katzfey supposedly gone soon, makes you wonder when Lewis will be out the door.

So how many posts into this thread is someone going to celebrate this move? I am guessing somewhere in the next 2 or 3 posts...

Seriously, as a meteorologist who used to work under him, I knew Charles very well. We might not have seen eye to eye with other all the time, but deep down Charles is a good man that was sometimes misunderstood and treated unfairly on this board. I have known for a couple of years now that he has given serious thought about working as a minister and devoting himself further to the Lord. If this is indeed what he is going to do, I believe he will do well. Best of luck, Charles.

yeah how about no charles bashing for him doing something so honorable...

on a side note... did anyone see the Jared Broyles sexiest places story tonight? Now that guy needs to retire!!! The music of "i feel like a women" really says a lot to confirm some of the persistant rumors about him. i literally feel sick for having just watched that.

Charles deserves to go into the ministry. If you ever hear the guy talk about his relationship with God, you'd understand.

Best wishes, Charles. It's great to see more people dedicating their lives to full time ministry. Incidentally, who's pulling out at KNWA? A main anchor opening is posted on tvjobs...

As a former meteorologist at 40/29 under Charles, I am delighted to see him finally get to do what he is MOST passionate about. He is an excellent inspirational speaker and has a very special and intimate relationship with GOD. I definitely feel this is his calling.

Ultimately, I wish he would continue to do weather, even if it is in limited capacity...perhaps doing some freelance work on the side (I'm sure Mike Morgan, Rick Mitchell or Travis Meyer would love to have him).

Best of luck to you Charles and congratulations!

Charles performed his duties at 40/29 with the utmost in unparalleled mediocrity. I'm sure he will bring the same to the ministry, a segment that not only fosters such but rewards it. But hey, it beats working for a living, right?

Well irregardless of your opinion of how Charles performed, he definitely leaves difficult footsteps to follow. It will be most interesting to see who gets the job.

And, exactly, what is wrong with that? Setting a good example, doing a good job, loving the Lord...that's a bad thing?

Way to go Charles, even though I don't know him well. But Drew taking his spot??? I don't know about that!!!!

Congrats Charles!!! I enjoyed working with you years ago and have missed the great conversations that we had. I'm happy for you and the family. Take care and God bless! Your friend, Mike Hall!

What exactly would be wrong with Drew taking his spot? I think he is perfectly capable of replacing him.

Drew would make a great replacement for Charles. I'm not sure about bumping their weekend guy up to mornings though...at least not at this point.

40/29, in my opinion, let the best guy get away from them - Derek Beasley. He will do well in Cinnci.

I work for a competitor and hope Charles does well with his new effort in life. It takes a lot of courage to do what he is doing.

As for the "Jesus freaks" comment, I see absolutely nothing wrong with all three chiefs in the market being Christians. I didn't realize that being decent and moral was such a bad thing. In all honesty, I find it refreshing.

Wow, if all of you could truly know this guy, you would know that this is his real Passion, this guy has a heart for people and for the things of God! Sure hate to see him go but what a statement he is making my living his life out by doing this. Hats off to you Charles, Good Luck and God Bless!

I wish him the best. I don't know his heart, just all the ego: "I'm chief meteorologist" stories that float around a small town. Talk's cheap, good luck Charles.

as someone who works with charles he is one of the most influential and devoted christian men i have ever met. although he is a great meteorologist, i agree his passion is in the ministry and i wish him, his wife pam and his daughter kimberly the best of luck.

I have a hard time believing this considering it wasn't too long ago when he was accused of putting his hands down the pants of a 20 year old employee just last year

I saw that and it was funny. Funny in a sad pathetic crappy sort of way.

Well, I work there and that's was not at all the case. It's funny how stories get our of hand. That's absolutely not true. It was later learned it was all an effort from some insiders who wanted him out, in essence it was fabricated. That's just not Charles, not the guy I know and others know. Good for you Charles, God Bless you on your new venture! You have our suport!!!

At 9:40 PM, April 27, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If the comment about the 20 year old were true, I can tell you he would have been gone. Hearst has no tolerance for that stuff, nor do most every other company now days. So I think "accused" is the key word here. Remember innocent until proven guilty, this is America right, hello! Good for you Salser, I think you are just proving how wrong everyone has been about you, especially those who truly don't know you! I wish you well.

At 9:43 PM, April 27, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's funny even this 20 year old's friend at the station apologized to Charles for being wrong about him. I think that says tons to the guy Salser is! Just my two cents...

Charles Salser writes:

Wow, this is the first time I have read this blog and in many ways I am glad I have not read it before now. Why I am so surprised by many of the bad comments, I should not be! It's a testament to the amount of un-grace that exists in the world. At the end of the day what matters is, that when we lay down at night we know who it is that we live for and who it is that we work for. Boy, am I far from perfect, but at last check we all are...Then there's grace, that says I love you for all your imperfections. That's what Christ died for, it's what he lived for and it's what he still lives for...For us imperfect people to have hope! Many of you have written so many kind things and I am deeply humbled by each of them and I thank you for all you have written. For those that were not so kind, there's forgiveness. I wish I had the chance to know each of you...there's no doubt this is a tough business, I have done my best and will continue to do my best. Did I make mistakes, you bet, we all do. Hopefully we learn, we grow and we get better for it. To answer officially, yes I am moving into the ministry. I have been attending seminary courses via distance ed and it has been and still is awesome. Am I good enough, no way, but again, none of us are, we all fall very short of perfection. I have been a meteorologist for the past 17 years and it's time to turn the page. Will I do it again, if God opens the door, sure! Right now, the call to pastor is huge in my life. I think if I was as bad as many of the comments over the course of time on this blog and others, maybe I could be a UFC fighter, because boy, would I be mean. But that's just not who I am. I am a guy just like any other guy, doing his best to be good at what he does, doing his best to be a great husband, and a great dad! Do I fall short, all the time and more often than I care to admit, but I keep pressing on, trusting in the one who loves me despite all my flaws. Here's what I do know, there is no greater cause to give my life to than that for which Christ died and cared so much for, his people, we call the church. Again, for the many kind words, thank you from the bottom of my heart and for the not so kind words, well...that's okay too! God Bless each of you and maybe our paths will cross again sometime soon, thanks again!!!

I think the networks and Neilson should give NWA back to Tulsa anyway! I haven't seen a quality news organization around here in the entire 25 years or so since "local stations" popped up! I would MUCH rather watch The News on 6 or NewsChannel 8 any day. They do cover the Razorbacks; and the weather coverage is far superior to "our own stations"!

At 9:26 AM, April 28, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Background for those who are not familiar with the NWA television market....While KFSM has been in Fort Smith since the 50s, there were no major broadcast stations located in NWA till Channel 29 came along in the late 70s/early 80s. Before that time, Tulsa stations were their local television. I believe they were also with Pittsburg/Joplin for a while. That Tulsa comment must come from an old-timer.:)

At 9:58 AM, April 28, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, even though NWA was taken away from the Tulsa DMA a long time ago, they still treat them as their own when it comes to weather coverage. They run all our thunderstorm watches and warnings, and they go almost wall-to-wall during tornado warnings, even if it only involves Arkansas counties. Not sure what good it does for them, but we appreciate it! Haha thanks KJRH 2, KOTV 6, and KTUL 8

Charles,
Best wishes in the ministry as you will be missed on television. Despite those who did laugh at you (and yes, even I joked while working at the station with you)I knew that you were a hard-working, dedicated man. Take this as a compliment when I say that my favorite "Nathan Lane-lookalike" it was a pleasure working with you.

Hey Charles,

I'm thrilled for you, my friend. You have to follow your heart....and I'm glad you finally are. You're exceptional at 40/29 and I know you'll be the same to those fortunate enough to interact with you in your church in OK. Thanks for sharing w/me everything you know about the business. You were a great mentor. DT

The "ladies and gentlemen..the real Charles Salser"...get a life you fraud. If only you knew what you were talking about.

Good luck Charles..don't even think about these jokers. You're going to have a great life!

Last I checked, we as Americans had freedom of speech. I worked with Charles and yes, there were times, I could have wrang his ever-loving neck over stupid stuff like the smoking light. For the most part, I do have good memories of Charles. The above poster obviously spent too much time on his/her "holier than thou" post. I say what I mean and I mean what I say.

"For the most part, I do have good memories of Charles."

You obviously didn't work here long. The good memories only came about in the last couple of months.

The funny thing is...since I obviously still work here and if you knew who I was....which, you would, since you worked here at some point...you'd definitly change your mind about the "holier than thou" part. Not even close.

I guarantee most of you don't know Charles, the poor guy has been wrongly judged from the get go. I was there when Steve Gibbs left. People within the station were downright hateful, the guy coul ddo nothing right. He worked hard and people shafted him. He's changed this market, he's been agressive, innovative, he has raised the bar of television weather tremendously. Again, what does he get for it, a bunch of people on some blog who nothing about the guy, shafting him again. Then, if that's not enough...he steps out in faith to do the unthinkable, leave a stable good paying job to tust God in full time ministry and he gets the shaft from many of you. It makes you realize quickly why the state of the world is the way it is. Charles, I am so happy for you, man have you been a trooper, it's been a pleasure to be called your friend, keep your chin up! I know you and God will bless, good luck my friend, you so deserve it!

I have and who I am is not important, it sounds to me like you have no idea...like they say truth hurts....it's hurting you to think this guy is a good guy, likely you yourself, have bashed him on this blog, what a shame, shame on you!!!!

That post wasn't from Jules. I just don't think it is right to call someone out on the internet if you don't have the guts to say your name. If you are going to call someone out, you should have the guts to put your name on here.
