THV Hires Weekend Anchor/Reporter

This hire snuck up on me...KTHV/Channel 11/Little Rock has hired a new weekend anchor/reporter.  Phil Buck joined the station this month.  According to his bio, Buck began his broadcasting career at the CBS affiliate in Missoula, Montana. He worked his way up from part-time camera operator to eventually become the station's Sports Director, doing play-by-play and hosting coach's shows for the University of Montana football and basketball teams. After taking a job in the sports department at the CBS affiliate in Seattle, where he had the opportunity to cover teams he grew up watching like the Seahawks, Mariners and Washington Huskies, Phil returned to his previous station in Montana to anchor the morning news.

Buck replaces Pam Baccam who left the station earlier this year.

good step up from Pam B. With his sports background not sure why THV didn't look at hiring him as SD. They have so many gaps though, so any improvement is a move in the right direction.

I will not watch a tv station with no sports director.

And I will not watch one that HAS a sports director.

Why did Pam Baccam leave?

I will not watch a station WITH a sports segment. What a waste. Can get all the sports (if you wanted such drivel) from a newspaper or online.

Just saw a story on KARK about "Drop the Keys" and it was the worst video I have seen in decades.

The video appeared to be out-of-focus and in stretch-o-vision.

Why would a station with the equipment like KARK allow video like this to air? Are they that desperate? Why no teach a reporter that does not know what the Hell they are doing how to operate a video camera?

This was pathetic and below the caliber of even a two-year college or trade school television station.

An apology should be in order after air this trash.

Ok I don't care that Liz likes to fish. Enough already!

And while we're at it, it's about time for that damn cat to go.

Saw Phil last night for first time. Ugh. So tough to watch. Was this his first day on the job? No comfort at all. It was like he was in pain. No charisma or energy. Am not sure the hire was a good one. He may improve over time. On other notes. The cat needs to go. Good riddance Pam B. , she was so tough to watch also. Liz, good God, I like to fish but don't care any about your fishin hobby. Stop the fishin stuff now.

For those complaining about the cat do you know much about local TV and the people that actually watch it?

I just checked and Joey The Garden Cat has more likes on Facebook than Fox16. Joey is a secondary advertising medium for KTHV. Some people watch the station more for Joey then then humans. When Joey had the health issues people were calling the station and sending stuff into the station. It may not be real news all the time, but Joey means real viewers. KTHV may not be #1, but I bet they would be more challenged without Joey.

At 2,785 followers, Joey has more followers on Twitter than Craig, Liz, Meredith and Sara. He has a few hundred less than Tom. He also has more than many at the other stations.

Local TV is partly about making relationships and Joey has clicked with many people.

I don't work at KTHV or any other media or advertising station, but can tell you from personal experience people love Joey.

To help show i am not a troll i will sign with my Google account.

I'm with the previous poster. TV is about viewers, and if Joey is bringing in the viewers than he is excellent marketing for THV. It works for a morning show to have him. It is a family friendly light way to begin the morning. After all, how many people watching the show can identify. When they tune in, many folks are letting the dog out and pouring food in the cat's dish. Great job, Joey and the morning THV team!

Saw Phil and he's solid. Good phrasing, good voice. Bit of the dead eye but that's easy to fix. Hate to say it but he's more credible than the red head on seven or the blond. Probably more of an anchor that Craig. Would be great if they teamed him and the girl who has been filling in.

Joey the Cat has more personality than anyone at THV.

Did Max ever fill in after Pam left?

He has been there about 5, maybe 6 years. Is he not interested in anchoring?

I didn't think the reporters who filled in were solid.

Someone please, please come in to the studio and help that poor girl do the weather warnings. Where is Ed and Tom when tornadoes are in the area. "The rain is causing a lot of rain."

It was sad. I usually watch 11 for weather coverage. I tried. Turned to 7 and couldn't stand it either. Turned back to 11 and ed was on and everyone going Ed is here Ed is here. God bless what a wreck. They could at least brought Craig or even Liz in on coverage to help the poor girl.

I flipped around during weather coverage. THV was absolutely awful. That poor girl couldn't string a complete sentence together without long, awkward pauses. It's painful to watch THV's slow and steady fall in this market. I thought the new GM was going to improve things -- as a viewer it seems to me to have only gotten worse.

KATV was fine. About what you would expect from Ned and Barry. Nothing flashy, but solid information.

I'm becoming a big fan of the 4/16 weather teams working together. I'm thinking Jeff Baskin may be the best TV meteorologist in the market. He was confident, clear, concise and in control last night.

Tom Brannon did a great job during the evening news under catastrophic conditions.

Hands down, 4/16 team did the best and are the only ones we watch. No prima donnas - just teamwork. I appreciate that.

Tom did the morning show, the afternoon severe weather, and then the evening? I agree he did a great job. Did he even go home at all since 4:00 in the morning? Not sure I could pull that shift.

Tom did a GREAT job. He and Ashley have both pulled some long hauls when there has been severe weather and breaking news. Good work, Tom!

Craig stepped in for a while to help but didn't know what was going on either. Someone at that station needs to tutor that girl.

Craig stepped in for a while to help but seemed like he didn't know what was going on either. Someone at that station needs to tutor that girl and do some cross training of personnel in how to operate all that 5-doppler stuff and do the weather. May not be 5 but you know what I mean.
