Shreveport Station Loses AM Anchor

A tipster informed ATN today was Denise Middleton's last day as anchor of the morning news and mid-day news programs at KSLA/Channel 12/Shreveport.  Sure 'nuff Middleton announced it this morning on her facebook page.  Middleton joined KSLA 3 years ago. Middleton is leaving for Houston to join her husband who is a college coach at University of Houston.  Below is her farewell on facebook:

Good luck in Houston. There is a lot to do there.

We'll miss seeing her on the AM. I'm sure she'll do well wherever she goes. It's KSLA's and Shreveport's loss! :(

I agree, Denise will do well no matter what. There are many more opportunities in Houston then Shreveport has to offer.

I am glad Denise has moved on from KSLA. I caught the News at Noon today and it was horrible. Technical problems. Direction problems. The entire newscast was a hot mess.

I have to agree with 1:18 PM. I saw that newscast and it was embarrassing to watch. Things like that were not tolerated when I worked at KSLA. If they continues on this path they will take KTAL's place as the #3 station in the Shreveport mkt.

1:40 pm is spot on. KSLA gets worse and worse every time I come back to town. I saw the noon today and it was pitiful. It is painful to see how far KSLA has fallen since I left. If the same thing happened when I worked there someone would be chewed out, or looking for another job right now.

It all spills on down from management. The KSLA on-air product has been pretty lousy the past few years and shows little effort in improvement. But hey, it's Raycom.
They're more concerned with bottomline and how their sales staff dresses.

Well it's not working. KSLA's on-air product looks very sloppy and unprofessional.

So does KSLA's sales department still have a very high turnover?

Interesting, first Brittany, and now Denise? Both leaving in less the two weeks of each other. What's going on at KSLA?

It's pretty typical of a small-market station. People get their couple of years or so under their belt and move on. It's no secret that KSLA, along with most stations in this market; aren't the best places to stay unless you get an over-paid anchor's gig.

True, however, management also plays a major factor in turnover.

You got that right. Management, or rather bad management, is the only reason I moved to other stations then eventually out of the broadcasting.

Most TV managers are simply glorified sales dweebs who know little about how to manage a TV station much less inspire or motivate people. They rule by edict and are some of the most superficial dicks on the planet. They are custodians and respond only when corporate or the station owners tell them what to do.

Hence the sorry state of broadcasting.

About Denise Middleton leaving KSLA, I thought she was on vacation. We're going to miss her as she seemed to be professional and have a pleasant disposition unlike the ice-princess who had that spot before her.
I'm sure she'll do well no matter where she winds up. Wish Shreveport TV had more like her.

Shreveport does have a lot more like Denise. The problem is they have all moved on to larger markets.

First Denise now former KTBS sports guy Tim FLetcher, it seems that those of us who live in the ArkLaTex media market are doomed to observe mediocrity in local television programming. In either case, I wonder if their respective managers were more interested in showing them who's boss than in maintaining quality.

Quality schmality. The answer blatantly obvious.

Unless something is management's idea, you can pretty much forget working out a way to reduce your workload. That's the takeaway from recent events in the local news-biz.

Denise left KSLA to join her husband in Houston as he had a job coaching there is what I heard. I thought she did a good job on-air and seemed to project a pleasant personality.

9:17 PM What happened with Fletcher @ 3 is not what happened with Denise Middleton @12.

1:12 PM Are you sure that's what you heard, or did you read about it on this thread which quoted her announcement on Facebook?
