KTBS Welcomes New Morning Anchor
KTBS/Channel 3 Shreveport has hired a new morning anchor. Wendi Redman comes to Shreveport from WBTW/Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. An e-mailer says she might be a possile replacement for Chrissi Coile if she does not return after giving birth to her second child.
Let's hope Chrissi stays home. I can't bear her much longer. She doesn't listen to answers during interviews, has no concept of what she's saying during broadcasts and if she says "actually" once more....
Glad to see they have someone to help Ed when Chrissie is gone on maternity leave... I just hope she comes back. She's the reason I watch every morning.
It is sad to read all the negative comments out there about these folks that you choose to spend time watching everyday. KSLA, KTAL, and KTBS have a job to do with a limited budget(as all companies do). With the economy shrinkig, each station is having to do more with less. No one, I mean no one, is spneding more on advertising than they were 3 years ago. You mock the persoanl lives of the on air talent, you mock the management for the quality of the broadcast, and you mock the appearance of the personnel on the air. They are either too cute or too ugly for your standards.
Instead of being the glass "completely" empty people, try finding the good in some things in your life and focus on those things. Try creating positive perceptions of others, rather than break them down.
Each hire either godd, bad, or indifferent has a place at that station. We are not a top 50 market so our choices are sometimes limited, but they are doing the best that they can with the resources that they have. You have a choice to make and maybe we all, including myself, need to make better choices of our time and the words that we use.
Also, no I do not work in the industry, nor have I ever worked in the industry. Just an outsider's persepcetive.
A number of comments do come from people who have worked in the TV biz. Some are just plain bitter, some like to take pot-shots at others, but if you had the TV biz experience, you can see the gems in some comments. Local TV biz is pretty much a superficial and self-important biz. If you spent anytime around these talking mannequins or meat-puppets, you'd be amazed at their true-selves. And the management types at some of these stations would give a psych-major a field day on megalomania, questionable ethics and other negative behaviors.
I read this blog for entertainment purposes because I know too much of what goes on behind the scenes. This is not a cheerleading section for local broadcasters so if that's your thing, you should look elsewhere. It's mostly an insider-blog where the underpaid / unappreciated rank-and-file who make these assholes look and sound good on a daily basis get to vent a little. That should be pretty apparent.
7:53 AM It was obvious from the first sentence you have never worked in broadcasting. If you did you would understand why we use this blog to vent. The majority of us who post on this blog do work in broadcasting & production, and we deal with this every day. We also deal with this during our off time, and vacations. Some of the local stations are very understaffed. That causes the rest of us to have two or three extra positions dumped on us with the duties that come along with those positions. Positions and duties which are not disclosed on our official job description and duty responsibilities. All of this for the same salary we were making for our primary position. We get phone calls at all hours of the day and night wanting to know something they should already know how to do. We also get phone calls all hours of the day and night wanting us to come in to work extra shifts because someone called in, or was no call no show again.
11:32 & 12:51: Spot on! I worked at 3 of the stations in this mkt., thinking with each move that I would find a better workplace and better managers and staff. No such luck! I'd get other-duties-as-assigned, called in my day off to cover because someone either called in sick, quit, got fired, didn't show up, couldn't find their rear in the dark, .... you name it.
I had more hours but got screwed out of overtime pay and then had hours cut because I worked too many hours one-week so mngmnt found ways to work around getting me O/T pay. And as for the TV anchors, they did very little, got paid too much and thought they were oh-so-important.
The environment is so negative, I quit and went back to school so I can work outside of TV. Still have folks I know in the business and honestly don't know why they put up with it.
People who aren't in the business and only know about local TV from what they see on television are pretty clueless. I vomit inside each time I hear some "civilian" talk about how good or nice So-and-So is on TV. If they only knew.
The Troll and the Dwarf... I'm trying to figure out which is which...lol! Then there's the rich-boy with his gun-toys! This place is rich in characters 4 sure!

Jan-the-Man Elkins is and has been clueless for years. It's a classic case of people with market-stagnation, thinking they're better than they are when in fact they work there because of their relationship with the Wrays. Wasn't this the same News Director who felt Katrina wasn't important enough to pre-empt a syndicated program? That's some real news judgement, boy-o!
Amen! That is the most accurate description of most of my former co-workers at KTBS. My current station and mkt are totally different. The difference is literally night and day between the two.
I heard someone describe the folks at KTBS as "...the types who have worked in a toilet for so long, they got used to the smell and wouldn't know shit if it hit them in the face."
No idea. I think Neil was filling in for Joe who was on vacation for awhile. I watch so little local news these days that I wouldn't know who is part-time or permanent air-staff these days.
KTBS' only permanent wx people are Joe and Brian. Neil has been temping for them for about two years. And Skip has been temping for them for like five or six years.
As long as the temps show up for the pay they offer and don't screw up the broadcast, nothing will change. Unless a weather-blonde wearing kneepads shows up ;)
I don't think KTBS can hire anyone until Rhonda Lees case is settled. Considering that, why in the world would they hire another white woman?? WTF were they thinking?
I like jennifer she was so hot and that's the only reason I watched the news I hates to see her go ... but Chrissi is real pretty took and so is the new one y'all keep it up ktbs
KTBS does have some good looking people right now. They may not be that great, but they are easy to look at in the superficial imaged based industry that is television broadcasting.
55 Comments:
Saw her work the Mardi Gras parade with Rick Rowe and seemed to be very well spoken. Appears to be a good hire.....
Cute girl. Glad to see KTBS is hiring again. Now they need to hire five more anchors and reporters so they will not be so stretched.
RuhRoh.... looks like somebody is going to be hitting the gym hard.
Does management really have the lack of foresight to keep hiring blondes? Their ratings are about to show a violent dip.
What are you talking about? KTBS does not have nearly enough Broadcast Barbies.
Oh folks in Shrevespit don't care. The majority of folks who watch the local news are too old anyway to really give a rip.
What an agist thing to say.
Let's hope Chrissi stays home. I can't bear her much longer. She doesn't listen to answers during interviews, has no concept of what she's saying during broadcasts and if she says "actually" once more....
KTBS stands for:
Keep
The
Blondes
Smiling
Maybe someone in management is looking for a new girlfriend! ;)
They don't have to a girlfriend to provide that particular "service." Just ask the dwarf and the troll.
And there's a problem with too many blondes ??
"We got the bubble headed bleach blonde who comes on at five. She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye."
Glad to see they have someone to help Ed when Chrissie is gone on maternity leave... I just hope she comes back. She's the reason I watch every morning.
Chrissi may come back from maternity leave, but don't count on it. She will most likely use this as a way to exit the station.
Kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down...
Randy Bain sure loves blondes, lol

I didn't even realize Carrie Underwood was looking for an anchor job...........
The Troll and the Dwarf...
I'm trying to figure out which is which...lol!
Then there's the rich-boy with his gun-toys! This place is rich in characters 4 sure!
Just ask around. There are a couple of people left at KTBS who can tell you.
3:37 PM "Rich in characters" is a very polite way of describing your co-workers. We have some real winners here.

It's open season on the dwarf and the troll, but Jan is off limits. She will be at KTBS long after you're gone and forgotten about.
Can't you come up with something new? You posted this same comment on previous treads.
Jan will be at KTBS as long as her umbilical cord is attached thereto.
Jan's present job as Community Projects Director at KTBS is apparently a contrived job.
If KTBS had been going to kick Jan to the curb, it would have done it years ago when Jan showed she was not news director material.
More competent, talented, and better looking employees have left or been fired from KTBS.
Have a great day and a better weekend everyone!
KTBS is not alone in that practice. KTAL did the same thing for Darrell Rebouche.
Clueless doesn't begin to describe it. How about self-important, arrogant, ignorant. That's just for starters.
"Self-important, arrogant, and ignorant" describes over half of our co-workers, and all of our management and ownership.
Does that ring true anybody?
That describes two of my former stations.
crude but funny about the toilet comparison.
I see Neil Shaw is back temping on wx. Still no permanent replacement for Rhonda Lee yet?
Has KTBS hired Neil as Rhonda's replacement? I saw them run a promo for him yesterday.
Is KTBS even looking for a permanent replacement for Rhonda? Seems they are happy to keep going with these temps.

That's not supposed to talked about outside of the building.
What's that sound?
Someone bumping their head under a desk.
I don't think KTBS can hire anyone until Rhonda Lees case is settled. Considering that, why in the world would they hire another white woman?? WTF were they thinking?
The Rhonda Lee thing could drag on for months or even years. KTBS can pretty much do whatever they want.
I like jennifer she was so hot and that's the only reason I watched the news I hates to see her go ... but Chrissi is real pretty took and so is the new one y'all keep it up ktbs
Yeah, right. NO.
KTBS with hot on-air types? Somebody needs eyes checked.
KTBS does have some good looking people right now. They may not be that great, but they are easy to look at in the superficial imaged based industry that is television broadcasting.
Guess so if you're into chunky and/or dim-witted blondes.
Obviously we are. That's the standard in most small and midsize markets.
Will someone in KTBS traffic puhleeze do us all a favor and stop running station I.D.'s with Jan Elkins on camera!! Eee-Yuck!
Shreeport TV likes Big Butts...
...they cannot lie!
