Sweeping Through Sweeps
As usual things are quiet during the sweeps period. No news of anybody leaving..coming...or staying. In watching the different channels one can't help but laugh as how some stations are trying to grab the eyeballs of viewers. Giveaways seem to be the name of the game. One that really caught my eye is how KATV/Channel 7 is attempting to gain control of the 5am hour by having viewers get up at that early hour, sign up to win $$$ and then making them watch to win. The 5am hour was the only hour KATV lost in the last ratings book. KARK and KTHV and both doing their own giveaways.

Don't know about you but they couldn't pay me to get up that early, much less watch TV.
All of the early morning shows, including 7's, are VERY weak. I use to watch 7's show every day, but those women became just too darn silly. For some reason, they think they are funny...go figure.Going back to sleep now.....
The early morning shows have all turned into loony tunes. They all seem to be trying for the stupid award of the week.
If you have to pay viewers to watch your station or a show you are desperate.
Talking heads making "happy talk" at that time of day is just plain silly as an above poster has said.
I agree with all three of the above posts.
How about just do news.....updated news...rewrite a script and not just cut and paste from the night before.
That would be GREAT just to have news, but is there anyone that is talented enough to rewrite a script ? Inquiring minds REALLY want to know..... :)
Unfortunately the answer is NO. My 7 and 10 year old nephew's can do that. They would do it just for I-Tunes and GameStop gift cards.
looks like 3:55 can't rewrite scripts either. "My 7 and 10 year old nephew's can do that"
Your nephew's what can do that? Actually if you're referring to both of them it should be nephews'
7 literally has 3 producers and they still just cut and paste everthing from the night before. I know they have to get up in the middle of the night, but talk about a cushy job!
I guess you could say that, but we all know the anchors are the ones who don't do anything.
Is KARK's morning show selling its live shots now? It just seems like its been plugs for various businesses lately, and its only weather or sports people doing them.
@8:05 AM
What the hell are you talking about?
LMAO 3:55. That is so true. Most kids that age are thrilled with GameStop and ITunes gift cards. Kids that already have enough computer literacy they could perform our jobs.
Yeah, that's kind of scary when you think about it.
This has been the most boring sweeps ever. It seems like everyone given up and been phoning it in.
We were talking about how boring sweeps have been last night during the 10:00. I've never seen it this boring.
Actually, if you're talking about your nephews, you should omit the apostrophe. "Nephews" is plural. "Nephew's" is singular possessive. "Nephews'" is the plural-possesive form.
So much for trashing those who work in newsrooms, @8:05. I hope you aren't correcting errors in my scripts, especially since the question you posed is a bit off. "Your nephew's what can do that?"
Everybody run - it's the Grammar Police!
Casting aspersions on other people's work can boomerang.
Hence 6:37 AM's edifying post:
"Actually, if you're talking about your nephews, you should omit the apostrophe. "Nephews" is plural. "Nephew's" is singular possessive. "Nephews'" is the plural-possesive form."
[Edification: (noun) instruction, schooling, education, information, teaching, improvement.]
A guilty person runs from the police!
Well, it appears that we have found the difference between "print" journalist and "broadcast" journalist in their talent to be able to write or not to be able to write and spell correctly. Proof positive that you don't have to be able to spell to be a broadcast journalist. So sad.
So much for J school.
Well sort of. Anchors these days aren't hired for any sort of writing talent. They need to look and sound good. We have got producers to take care of the journalism and writing part.
"We have got producers to take care of the journalism and writing part."
Really? Where exactly are you hiding them? Good producers in Arkansas... Yeah, right.
KATVs viewer pay-off is a smart thing though. It's easier for them to blow out money than actually producing quality content. Just look at dickhead Rob Thomas for instance. Nothing coming from his department will ever be creative. And the producers? A bunch of idiots.
KATV is the best in the LR market though, definitely. However, it's like winning the special Olympics. Even though they win all the time, they are still freaking retarded. It's not that KATV is that good, the others simply suck worse.
I wasn't trying to play Grammar Police. I just hate when people try to make others appear as if they don't know what they're talking about. If you are going to do so, please have your stuff together.
By the way, I'm glad someone else caught "we have got..." That drives me crazy. A simple "we have" would suffice.
Sincerely,
6:37AM aka an anchor
The "s" tripped you up, bud. I'll go with it being a typo and not a flatout misspelling.
I love when print journalists claim that tv journalists have poor grammar. I always enjoy laughing at all of the errors in the Dem-Gaz. Give me a break!
I was a Nielson viewer and I can tell you that I do not watch ch 7. So they got swept from my diary :)
If you don't like the work we're doing, I can respect that. And if you don't care for me personally, I can respect your opinion on that too. Everyone has an opinion, and you have the right to yours.
But have the courage to sign your name next to your comments. I feel that way about the administrator of this blog too. If you are going to post critical things about any of the stations or their people, tell us who you are.
If you aren't willing to stand behind it, then don't say it.
Sincerely,
Rob Thomas
KATV Promotions Manager
Must;ve struck a newve with mister thomas. 7 has been going down hill for some time, well they all have. really ashamed 7 is the "best" in the market. maybe when perme dies or retires they can afford solid reporters and anchors again.
Yes, it clearly struck a nerve. Promotions in this market are very weak. That is something that can be easily outsourced.
So what's with THV looking for a weekend anchor/reporter? Pam out? Lauren Scott is heading out the door too. New Boss getting rid of talent?
@11:08
Pam and talent???
@Rob Thomas: The problem is that you and I work in the same building. IF I were to put my name under this post or the one from 10:34 PM, February 16, 2013 I am sure you wouldn't be so cool about my right to have an opinion anymore. It wouldn't be the first time you get your co-workers in trouble for expressing an opinion on the web, which differs from yours...
It's pretty sad if KATV employees feel like stating their opinion at work can be dangerous for them. Well done Rob!
Maybe katv can pay viewers..oh thats what they are doing with their giveaways.
@11:00 PM KATV is not alone. It was the same way at some of my former station including KATV. If you say something, or suggest something they don't agree with, they will go out of their way to make your life hell to force you to quit so they don't have to fire you. I've seen it happen time and time again.
Can anybody tell what happened to Trey Mallet with Kark and karz on Arkansas sports nation because his Bio on their website has been removed and his name next to any title has been removed.
