One Newsroom, Two Different News Stations
With the moving of the KLRT staff and studios into The Victory Building with KARK, station officials are touting the move as a positive thing for TV news viewers of both channels. KLRT has begun broadcasting its newscasts from The Victory Building and engineers have started the process of constructing a new set for KLRT.
Now let's focus on the newsroom. KARK/KLRT News Director Austin Kellerman says, “While we will share some resources, it is important to us that the FOX16 News and KARK4 News brands remain unique and distinct from one another. The combined newsroom will give us the ability to cover more local stories, in a more thorough way than ever before.” The stations will continue rely on its sister stations in Fayetteville, Memphis, Texarkana, and El Dorado to report news from all corners of the state.
Beginning Monday, 2/4/2013, KLRT will start their new newscast times. They will be Good Day Arkansas” from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., a half-hour broadcast of FOX16 News at 5:30 p.m., and an hour-long FOX16 News at 9 p.m.

This is BS. Simply saving money above all else. Consolodating news operations removes diversity of news and opinions. Editorial control isn't unique when it comes from a single source. Local TV news sucks and they wonder why viewership is in decline.
I just can't imagine this going well.
But doing more with less has always worked!
That is the Nexstar philosophy.
Every company in this town has that philosophy.
Because almost every station is owned by Nexstar.
Man, this is an awful idea. I feel for the professionals trying to work in this weird environment. Austin and the rest of the KARK management have a thankless job. Good luck friends.
It was a common understanding that local news diversity was a given back in the day when there were stricter ownership rules of media. There were court rulings that prevented newspapers from owning or being affiliated with radio & TV stations in a given market or even a percentage nationally. Thanks to deregulation and the FCC's easing up on ownership restrictions, media companies can have a virtual monopoly of local news ops. We can thank the Reagan era for ushering in much of this and subsequent Republican administrations for adding momentum to this so-called "free-market" of media consolidation. This has happened with radio thanks to Cumulus & Clear Channel, the same holds true to what is happening with local TV today. And it sucks but the media companies don't care because they manage by spreadsheet and cost-control. They don't care anything about serving the community unless it is tied directly to profit, plain & simple.
So did they let go Trey Mallet with Arkansas sports nation on karz ? What happened because he is the only interesting guy to watch on that show.
Anyone else see all of the screw ups on "4" I mean 16 at 5:30. The anchors and reporters did a good job. It was the crew behind the scene that screwed up. Must be the KARK crew running or ruining the show. Could not get the video correct.
New set? Isn't 16's set pretty new as is? Maybe they'll give it to their cheapass sister station in Memphis that does the news standing up in front of a plain blue wall and a monitor.
Nexstar just needs to be hit with a baseball bat like a pinata at this rate. They've got WAY too much candy in them.
@5:54 what do you mean the crew messed up? How could they mess up anything important since they are not given any tasks important enough to pay them better than a teenage burger flipper. Surely it the anchors who messed up.
Ah, the old "combined synergies" crap again. Guess this means 16 is going All Hogs, All The Time like its adopted sister.
No need to cover any other sporting events. Says them.
???
You can certainly tell that KARK is in charge of the Fox newscast now. Their 5:30 newscast this evening was a trainwreck of technical problems.
fox 16 has its own Rhythm and kark 4 has its own Rhythm
Yeah, and that rhythm is not so great.
Their rhythm is like doin'the "White-Boy Boogie."
Ok racist. Would you have said "Black-Boy". I doubt it. We are white men. Get it right.
So did they let go of Trey Mallet with Arkansas sports nation on karz ? What happened because his twitter page used to say working for kark and Karz now it just says its just me nobody else? Maybe he will appear on local sports radio considering the opening that 103.7 will have since pat Bradley left.
Who the hell Is Trey Mallet?
Wow. You think people listen to the radio? You all really deserve to work in a dying industry. Local sportscasts, ha!
