KATV Looking for New Weekend Anchor/Reporter
A blog reader has pointed out KATV/Channel 7/Little Rock has posted a job opening for Weekend anchor/reporter. Where's Heather Crawford going?....hmmmmm....

Being a reporter doesn't make you an anchor. Katherina as an anchor.. I would rather have pam smith back!

They're gonna have a hard time filling that spot from within. I don't think anyone they have right now can step up.
Why would a reporter want to work at a station that doesn't promote from within? That would make 7 look like a bunch of jerks.
It's not about who's next in line. It's not about looking like jerks by not promoting from within. It's about putting the best product on air and right now I don't think they have anybody good enough on the desk that they could use. Maybe someone will step up and prove themselves while they are searching because I do agree that it would be best to put someone on that viewers know but putting someone on who is good at it is more important. Just look at THV to see wha happens when you put people on the desk just because they are already there.

seems like the mistake other stations make - promoting from within, when they don't have the talent within to make a legitimate anchor (yeah that means you THV).
aren't they just advertising the spot that Simoni left? Just the option of having someone capable of doing both jobs, as she was.

Roger has been at 7 much longer than Katherina.
Roger refuses to sign a contract at Channel 7 so there is no way he will get it.
THV only has one anchor who is sitting behind the desk because she was just "there already." 7 is so proud of themselves right now, it's funny they don't have a strong enough reporter to make an anchor. Hmmm.
Bring back SIMONI or put Roger on there

@8:20 There is a huge difference between anchoring and reporting. Just because you can report doesn't mean you can move to the desk. THV would be wise to remember that.
Who wants to be a career reporter- think it's funny 7 doesn't have even 1 reporter that can anchor.
You don't watch much TV do you? All of 7 reporters have anchored shows, can the other stations say that? nope.
Don't think Nick would hire Dunbar-Gates, he remembers her work ethic.

Totally agree about the video! It seems like a fun place to work. Loved the part with Roger and Ned! Beth and Melinda both looked hot! I didn't enjoy Janelle though today. She talked over all the guests! She'll probably be better with a little more experience.
Beth definitely looked hot but Melinda is far from it. By far one of the least attractive women on LR tv. She's great at what she does, but can't say the same for her mug.
Melinda hasn't aged well but I don't think she's horrible looking.
Melinda is nearing 50 she looks good at a certain angle but she's old news. Beth Hunt=Hot!!!! I also noticed no ring!!!

There is no line to the anchor desk, and nothing about this business is fair. That is never going to change.
Christina is the main female anchor, but Beth is the face of the station.

Not sure why you think she is the face of the station, but if were playing news director, I'd have Beth anchor all main shows and move Munoz to weekends.
That'd be a bad move. Munoz is probably the best female anchor in the market. Why would you want to shuffle your people around when everything is going great anyway? And besides, we don't even know if Beth would want those hours.
Best anchor in the market? Absolutely not. Maybe at KATV, but that's about it.

@8:56 Since you brought it up, who's the best in he market? Heather leaving is a blow to KATV since they have the best all around anchor team. Christina and Beth are the best in town. Scott is great too. In my opinion no other anchors in town come close to what 7 has.
How does losing a weekend anchor equal a "blow" to KATV? Pam Smith was winning the weekends when she was on the desk.

Heather's too hot to stay in a #56 market for very long.
And Saturday morning I had to turn the volume down because the recycling segment sounded like The View. Everyone was talking over each other. Hopefully they can recycle the burned-out microphones.
I really don't see what's so great about Christina either, sure she's ok, but I think viewers connect with Beth a little better.
That said, I doubt they will do any shuffling around with those positions. My money is on bringing in a fresh face. Roger is the only reporter who is ready for the desk, and as others have pointed out, it's not gonna happen unless he signs a contract.
Sorry, don't see the appeal of Roger. Let him leave. He and his hair are not that good. It's a huge loss to lose Heather. Unlike Beth, she had some personality.

Yes its a shame that Beth is the face of KATV. Heather has personality, Beth has, well... You said it. I agree about the self indulgent video.
Lighten up about the video. It was fun! As for the weekends I think Roger would do a fine job and I'd rather watch him than Trager or the lousy Pam. That said, a lot of good people will apply for that job and good talent is easy to find. Especially on the weekends where chemistry is not a big factor.
The "self promotional" video wasn't planned out as much as you seem to think it was. Beth, quite simply was around with not much else to do when they shot it. Heck the interns probably have more face time than anyone...
Exactly, It was shot in the morning and whoever was there was in it. People on this blog always think they know so much. It's really kind of pathetic. By the way, Beth will be doing a lake shoot as well. All the anchors are. Just another example of people not knowing what the hell they're talking about.
I heard they made Roger let Ned put makeup on him in that video as punishment for refusing to sign a contract.
If I were Beth, I wouldn't want to change that schedule. The 11:30 and the 5? I mean really... that's the sweetest gig one can ask for.

I vote for whoever that was that anchored KAIT8's newscast last night. She's a bit of a fast talker, but easy on the eyes.
I think the reverse is true too. Some of the best anchors can be terrible when they attempt reporting.
One would think the best reporters would become anchors, but it doesn't seem to always be the case in this market.
Katherina is the best choice. She has always wanted to anchor and was always under appreciated and overlooked at KTHV. She would bring ethnic divirsity, experience, and charm to the desk.
Too bad she has no personality whatsoever in front of the camera.

Lilley just is too excitable and nervous for Saturday Daybreak. She needs scripted material whereas Kat seems calmer and professional.. Toss a coin!!!

Heather Crawford is too good to be working weekends in Little Rock. It's too bad THV couldn't have snagged her up. I always liked her. THV would have done well with her.

They aren't going to demote Barry after all these years... as a matter of fact, they are grooming him to replace Ned, who is probably on the verge of retirement. Then Todd can swoop in.
You guys are really stretching now. Apparently Christina connects with enough people to help make them number one consistently. And if we're talking about the elephant in the room it has to be about a certain THV anchor not anyone at 7. Beth is good but not any better than Christina and nobody is grooming Barry. He wants the chief title but he'll never do those hours full time.
I don't know about any rooms with elephants, but I think it is fair to say 7 wins inspite of Christina. I'll plead no contest to accusation about the certain thv anchor.

Christina has almost a Katie Couric thing about her in the respect that for some reason she does not seem to be the person you want delivering the serous, hard news of the day to you. With that being said, that is the only thing she has in common with Katie Couric. Beth, however does connect with all audiences in delvering any news. Agree that Yakoubian should be a morning show guy & Kat needs to work on her delivery.
Maybe she could just anchor the news for her new home town of Bald Knob. BTW channel 7 people, that was a great (albeit soft) series idea, right up until you made it weird with Christina's pretend hometown. Just my opinion, in my real hometown.

I absolutely think Roger is ready and I bet he would sign a contract. I thought he was very good filling in on Thursday morning.
Roger is definitely stronger on the desk than Pam Baccam and she's been doing it for months!

And 7 had a great November book while Christina was on maternity leave. So while I doubt it would happen, she should be sent to weekends.
And when she came back they had the best book ever. What's your point? They had a great fill in wIth Beth so why wouldn't they have a great book while Christina was gone. 7 wins the 5 o'clock with Beth as well. That's the point people, they have the best anchors in town hands down. No other station even comes close in matching what 7 has and that's why they are on top. KATV viewers are loyal, they're not going to turn away just because someone is on maternity leave. And recently it looks like they are attracting new and younger viewers as well. The other stations are obviously worried and frustrated as the posts here clearly show.
The point is it is not because of her. Rather, in spite of having her, 7 does really well. I think the Katie Couric analagy was spot on. You can tell she isn't really interested in this stuff. Certainly she pretends to be, but I get the feeling she would rather be discussing how someone's life was "touched by God" or something. Just my opinion, and from these posts it looks like I'm not alone.

Janelle Lilly's clothing choices are awful. Cheap and poor taste.
As for weekends,who cares. The management doesn't watch and every station is poorly staffed on the weekends. Give people who deserve the opportunity a chance and move on people.
I pick Kat and Roger over Janelle on Saturday Daybreak. They were smother than Janelle and more attractive.

Some reporters dress awful. Like someone said about Janelle, you can see how cheap the clothing is.
To me the majority of the worst dressed are at 11 and that is probably because they get paid the least.
As a viewer I question why they don't put more emphasis on their look. It isn't being vain, it is an impression you leave with the audience.
Some of the best dressed reporters are Brittany Johnson, Kathrina Yancy and Lauren Scott.
I'd say the worst are Janelle Lilley, Lisa Hutson and Jessica Duff.
In my opinion, guys have it easy. All a guy has to do is wear a suit to pass.

Oh I'm really sure 3 people do "absolutely nothing". I don't know who you are talking about, but my guess is you have no idea what you are talking about. It's just like those idiots who say anchors do nothing. You probably think you do all the work, while others relax all day. You are probably a photog and probably a new one. Well guess what? Those people applied and got their job where they "get to do nothing". And you applied for yours. Worry about yourself and grow up.
