KATV's Give aways Pushes Them Over the Competition

KATV's giveaways seem to have paid off during the May Sweeps.  Arkansas Business.com reports Channel 7 won each and every news time slot.  The most drastic change was in the early morning hours.  KATV was up 12 points while Channel 11/KTHV was down 12 points in that time slot.  For more numbers see the story at Arkansas Business.com.

Perhaps the katv morning show is just better. Why can't that be the reason?

KATV's morning show is definitely more liked. I have tried for years to get my family and friends to watch my station, but all of them watch KATV's morning show and GMA.

KATV come on down! Your the next contestant on Buy Those Ratings!

No comparison between the quality of the two morning shows. I'm a former producer who is out of the business now. Chan 11 hands down has better talent and content on their morning show than 7. Sometimes money wins though. Perfect example of good promotion and giveaways paying off.

Every station tries to "buy ratings". Like the above poster said, why can't anyone admit they are just better. The morning did get the biggest jump but they were also up across the board. Better talent and a better product on all shows equals better ratings. It's pretty simple really, KATV has been the best station in this market for years and they seem to only be getting better. This was simply a good old fashioned ass kicking. You can try to spin it away anyway you want but the bottom line is that channel 7 is the dominant player in this market and it looks like they will be for some time to come. The other stations better step it up quick.

I prefer THV's morning show, but no one can say THV didn't do a ton of giveaways like KATV. They gave away iPads, gas cards, tickets to concerts, an "outdoor oasis," Mother's day gifts, etc. KATV just had better giveaways and people tuned in. I like the Alyse, Tom and Ashley team ad think they get better each day.

At 7:28 PM, June 25, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Look I work at another station and do not feel like Channel 7 is the best, but the bottom line is if you look at the last THREE ratings period 7 has won everything but the 5 AM in February, to say they won because of a promotion is just silly.

I think if there was ever a doubt that the blogmaster is an 11 apologist it evaporated with this headline. KATV's Giveaways? Please...just more KATV dominance.

Does the fact that Nick and Kenny left THV and went to KATV have anything to do with the rise in numbers at KATV? Perhaps they are delivering THV the smack down.

At 7:50 PM, June 25, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with many of the above posters. Like it or not the rest of the market is getting reamed by KATV.

Honestly I'm a bit surprised. I work in an office building with 45 employees and the THV morning show gets brought up at least 3 times a week. The ladies and gents there LOVE it and enjoy the team. I'm not opposed to KATV's morning show but Allison is unwatchable. She's too skinny and unpleasant to listen to so early in the morning. Chris is a great addition though.

Liz is a waste of space at THV. Get rid of her! She obviously doesn't care enough about her job to improve her appearance. She's heavy, has no sense of style, and her makeup is awful. Give her the boot unless you want the ratings to continue to drop.

If changes need to be made at 11, suggest some. Who stays and who goes?

A lot of anchors are shallow and narsistic, its all about them. Liz is every woman, weight, hair, and clothes. She is one of the most real and kind people I have ever come across.

Oh come on 8:19. What are you trying to get started? Don't be so obvious when laying the bait.

8:15 PM, Get a grip, the discussion was on morning shows and you go bashing Liz. Are you the idiot on hair style watch also?

Liz is very intelligent and i enjoy watching her.

An no I don't work in any TV or other media type business.

At 9:13 PM, June 25, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm not sure why the discussion has to just be about morning show's. The thread is about why KATV is kicking KTHV's ass across the board...as a THV fan I believe Liz is a big reason why they struggle in the evenings.

At 9:42 PM, June 25, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KTHV's anchors seem on air like the most down to earth folks. THEN there's the folks at KATV who seem so stuck up. I've have not watched KATV's morning show since they did the whole revamp years ago. Alyson just seems she's on crack or something just too jumpy, and she never was that way on 11. She seems like she wants to be the star of the show. The other two seem scared of her..afraid to jump on in there. I really prefer KARK's morning show..more news weather and info. Who needs all the crap get informed.

The giveaways may have been good, but I really liked Chris's "Daybreak Takes Over" segments. They were always fun to watch.

At 6:28 AM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous TD said...

KATV would be number one even if they had a segment with Renee farting.

THV's problem is not with their anchors, but their reporters. Their morning show is the best.

KARK needs to get on the same page. Is the morning show serious or funny? Can Wendy talk about the Mile High Club without Matt cringing? Bob and Jessica are very good but station marketing is horrible.

At 7:56 AM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The truth is Nick Genty and his team deserve a lot of cedit. There is a focus at the station that you can feel inside the building... and it shows on the product. Is everything perfect? No, of course not---no place is. Is KATV headed in the right direction? I think so. The ratings over the last year appear to support that.

Each station has its strengths and all have good people. It is a shame some put others down here... in ways they never would face-to-face.

We all have opinions and yours is just as valid as mine. I would like to encourage all of us in this business we work in and love to stand behind our remarks by attaching our names. If you believe what you say, tell us who you are. It is the right thing to do. Every time.

If KATV wants to prove they can win without buying viewers then have your November book without cash, trips or $1000 essay contests. It will never happen b/c they know they have to buy their audience. They lost to THV am show even after Allyson was on without giveaways.

At 7:59 AM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

My problem with the morning news shows is there is hardly any news. Too much fluff for me.

I watched 2 people on KTHV spend 6 minutes talking about how the cat was going to react when they got him back "home". Whooo-peee-dooo.

That was 5 minutes of wasted time for me when all I wanted was an update on the news.

None of the stations really seem to care about real news as they just repeat the stories that were left over from the 10pm newscast.

There's too many commercials as well. Plus, If I see that dang promo from KARK about how great their morning show is I'm gonna file a lawsuit against them for mental anguish.

At 8:10 AM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why would KATV want to prove they could win without giveaways. Every station does it, KATV just does it better obviously. It's all about number one and they probably would win without contests anyway. It's not just about buying viewers, contests and giveaways make the show interactive. It's lets people feel that they are a part of the show and keeps them engaged. And yes, it makes them tune in and then come back if they like. That's how you attract and keep viewers.

At 10:43 AM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Rob, wish I too could sign my name, but being at the competition might hurt me. Congrats to you and your promo team. Always something new and fresh. We are stuck with the same old, or non existent promotions. Promotions makes a lot of difference. KATV has a plan, and it is working.

I think Nick and Kenny got fed up at THV and took their talents to KATV. The things Larry put in place drove them out the door. You have to wonder what Larry thinks now that Nick is building a strong team, with a former THV morning personality and Kenny, an award winning photog. I feel sorry for Kaplan that he lost all that talent.

At 12:57 PM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

People get "diaries" that they fill out about what they watch on t.v. That's were the ratings come from, and you can see what specific counties the ratings are dropping and rising.

At least that's what I assume he/she/it meant.

KTHV is in danger of falling back into the dismal pre-Gannett, Bob Brown era numbers. The product is on the decline and Mr. Kaplan should do something soon to breathe some new life back into that station. Nick has taken everything he learned during the glory years at THV and is now using it to whip his former station. The first order of business, in my opinion, should be to replace Chuck Maulden. They need a good strong news director who can overhaul the product, better use the resources and get things back on the right track.

At 5:35 PM, June 26, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's not just Liz, there all kinds of things wrong at THV. Liz is a big problem but that clown of an anchor Craig is right behind her. Followed by the weather dept, reporters, producers etc......

Nope! All pieces were in place BEFORE Larry. During the Newkirk/Michaelson era. Larry IS responsible for gutting shows, the green reporters not securing certain talent and pitting Nick against Chism. Larry loved only Larry. They were not the glory days whatsoever!

I Am A Viewer in NE Ark

I Have Watched Little Rock TV for a Year or so

Each Station Has Strong and Weak Points

7 - Strong at 5 6 and 10 As Far AS Anchors go Weather Team Seems Bland
Expect For Todd
Reporters are Good

Matt Johnson Is A Star In The Making

Their Morning Shows on Weekdays And Sat Needs Work

11 - Their Strong Point Is the
Morning Shows

Their Studios Is Too Dark
how I Would Fix Their 5 6 and 10
Hire Pam Baccam for Weekdays
Move Liz to Mornings
Move Ashley To Weekends
and Put Craig on Sports

4 - Too Much Change Is their Problem

some of it Cannot be Helped

They Have too Many Reporters
And Not Enough Anchors

I do not Have FOX 16

Actually The Best Morning Show Is FOX 13 in Memphis

Strong Weather Team and A Beautiful Woman named Lauren Johnson their Health Reporter

but she can do it all

they Know When To Be Serous

And when to Have Fun

I wonder how many of the news folks who love to wave their flags around here really cared before they got the job.

My guess is most of talent didn't think about it at all... just were in a small market and would've accepted a position anywhere... probably begged to get the job.

I bet 90% of the rest of the staff are on their first job.

Well here is a tip for those on their first job - you can wave your banner and shout at the moon about your ratings, but you will not get a bigger or smaller paycheck because of them. The sales team might have a easier or harder job selling (well ok they might make more or less), the news director might have more or less job security, the GM might have more or less favor with the board - but the rest of you - NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

At 9:52 AM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If I can play channel 4 news director for one sec - here's my plan: Flip Flop Jessica Dean and Mallory Hardin. Jessica has a morning girl look, it's hard to take her seriously as an evening anchor. Mallory would look good next to Bob. Take Lauren Trager off the weekend desk altogether and put her strictly on investigations. Trager just doesn't look good on set, but she does dig up good stories sometimes. Not sure who you replace her with, but anyone would probably be an improvement.

At 10:39 AM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with what 9:35 said, except one thing: Anchors are affected if they don't do well too. Which is why we are calling for Liz's head.

At 10:52 AM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think all those in the "Liz needs to go" camp are mostly co-workers who are using this ratings period as an excuse for what are really personal issues. She's never been popular in the newsroom. Self absorbed is accurate. This ratings period coupled with her obesity might be enough to finally change things - but if it isn't - how do you continue to work with her day in and day out now that it's somewhat in the open?

At 11:33 AM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The "glory years", as a poster mentioned above, occured during the Trelstad / Newkirk years. Larry Audas did, indeed, ruin the momentum by imposing his misguided will on every part of the station. Audas is the reason that Heizman and Raines ultimately left the station -- they got tired of his crap. But from the little that I know about Mr. Caplan, he may the kind of person to turn things around. It's not gonna be easy though.

At 11:39 AM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

10:52 is on to something about this not being about ratings. The reason people are not blaming Dawn is that most people generally like Dawn.

The GM at THV would be wise to leave the THV morning show alone. That is the area's best morning show, and no I don't work at THV. However, they need to promote and invest more in that team and their show.

At 2:35 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@2:28 I agree. I enjoy their show but they definitely aren't as promoted as the evening anchors. Why is 4 lagging behind? I like Mallory and Wendy.

At 3:54 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous TD said...

I'm just a viewer and I have a solution to the problem at THV.
Anchor: Robin Meade
Lead Reporter: Lara Logan
Weather: Crystal Egger
Sports: Erin Andrews

Yeah, this isn't going to happen and they won't get rid of Craig, Dawn and Liz either. THV needs to get rid of the backstabbing people sitting on the potty posting crap about their co-workers instead of concentrating on producing a quality newscast. A quality newscast with sufficient lighting, graphics spelled correctly, the cat put away and stories that aren't weak.

THV's strength is their WEEKDAY morning show. I don't trust those ratings. Everyone I work with talks about 11 and not 7's morning show.

At 5:12 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, those ratings surprised me too. The channel 11 morning show is a very good product. Congratulations to katv, but I just don't know how accurate those returns really are.

Please leave everything just as it is at THV. Best thing that can happen to KATV, KARK and Fox.

At 5:52 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

For us sales folks, that is what we have to tell clients..."Don't trust the ratings, unless they are good for us."

At 5:54 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh please, if THV had won you wouldn't even think twice about them being wrong. Just because you like something doesn't mean it's the best or the most watched. Just look at KARK, their product is way better than THV and they couldn't get ratings to save their lives.

At 7:28 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What about Wes? Is he being replaced by someone from the inside or a new hire? Did they try to negotiate to keep him?

Actually, KARK beat THV in one of the prime demos at 5 AM

At 9:56 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

THV's glory days had TJ Holmes and Becky Ditchfield who have moved on to bigger markets and Anne Jansen and BJ Sams who have retired.

KATV had Karen Fuller, Lauren Glassberg, Kate Sullivan, Regina Blakely, Chris May, Andy Pearson, Gina Kurre, and yes, Holly Sonders. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but you get the point. It's about the talent.

At 10:13 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love how all of these "viewers," are always on here talking about how awesome THV's morning show. A lot of them seem to post fairly early in the day. I'm sure they are upset about getting creamed in the last few ratings...

At 8:19 AM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

10:13: I think Liz was part of the glory days of TJ, Becky, Anne, and BJ. Somebody campaigned for her to get the job because they thought she could hold her own with the other THV "glory days" stars.

At 8:29 AM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Just the facts, please said...

I work in IT, not in broadcasting. I question the ratings based on science, not because my favorite lost.
For the ratings in Little Rock, would someone answer the following questions:
What is the sample size?
What are the gender, age, race, income, marital status and number of children distributions of the sample?
What is the margin of error?
How is the data collected?
What is the average amount of time a viewer actually watches the early morning shows?
I switch among 4, 7, 11, CNN, Weather Channel, and Golf Channel all within 20 minutes (Yes, I'm checking out the women and so do my co-workers). How would that show up in the ratings book?

At 9:26 AM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Those answers come with a price. That is why KARK doesn't subscribe. It costs a lot of money. Nielsen's have only been around since 1923. They probably have it down pretty good by now. Whether you agree or disagree, it is the only way the industry is measured. As far as one station buying the ratings, come on, every one did giveaways. KATV did not do any in the evening news casts and they grew across the board. Look for Dawn and Craig to show up in the AM for THV, soon.

At 12:00 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dawn, Craig and Tom would be a very expensive morning show.

At 12:14 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Where does Ashley and Alyse go?

At 1:11 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Word on the street is that Craig is going to the morning show, Ashley is headed to nightside to be a special projects reporter/fill-in anchor and Dawn isn't resigning her contract. If I hadn't heard this from a member of upper management I'd have taken it with a grain of salt.

At 1:29 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow. All all wrong. Nice try though.

At 2:48 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So, 11:11, let me get this straight. Ashley is THV's Anne Curry, and THV is holding her responsible for the drop in morning ratings? Initially, the job was offered to Dawn, but she only wanted to go if Craig would go with her.

At 3:04 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Let's get something straight. There are only two stations that had true "Glory Days." That's KARK in the 1970's when it dominated all shows and KATV in the late 1980's and 1990's when it dominated all shows. Back then, KTHV wasn't even a factor. KTHV has had a number one morning show. Which I give them total credit because Daybreak on KATV was a powerhouse. KTHV has also had an occasional number one at 10:00. But when you have powerful CBS programming, that's not hard to do. Right now, KATV is once again pulling ahead despite solid CBS programming. The king of television in Arkansas is KATV. Like them or not, they have always been a big player in the ratings.

At 4:31 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If I were THV, I'd worry more about losing all those CBS viewers going into my 10pm show. ABC had crap programming for May. Yes they lost the am show, but they didn't have the huge CBS lead. It would be like KATV losing the 5pm when they had Oprah.

At 4:40 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I wonder how the GM at THV is feeling right now and what he is thinking after this last ratings period.

At 4:53 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

THV is lacking a strong male anchor. To move Craig to mornings wouldn't be wise because of an all female line-up. There'll will be changes in talent over next couple of months, and change is not necessarily the best thing but Caplan wants to right the sinking ship the S. S. Audas. There may be some main line talent whose job description changes.

At 5:18 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well if THV is missing a strong male anchor, why did they not give Wes a shot at that spot?

At 5:28 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wes dIdn't have the chops to pull it off.

At 6:46 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It was about money as well. Wes wanted more and the station didn't want to pay. They'll find a replacement sports guy and pay him less than what they were paying Wes. Then, they'll find a budget for a main anchor and bring that person in. Ultimately, THV doesn't really care about sports and it goes all the way up the corporate ladder.

At 7:57 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I wish they'd find a new morning weather person. Tom comes across as a grouchy old man and only concerned about cereal. I can only imagine what it would be like to have to work with him everyday. Craig would drive Tom crazy because he wouldn't be the center of attention anymore. I already love it.

At 8:14 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I really like Tom. And you know ratings may be down since the last sweeps, but that morning team worked hard to pull it out. They failed , but it wasn't because the did n't try or care. It is just unfortunate.

Put Ashley on the evening anchor desk and hire a new male evening anchor. Get rid of Liz and Dawn. Move Craig to the morning show with Tom and Elyse. And for Pete's sake cool it with the cat overkill.

Maybe Mark Edwards will get the job. He is next in line.

Dear 9:56,

Talent has some to do with glory days... but certainly not all. THV's talent didn't change much when Larry first over, but his policies undid all the progress they had worked for.

And frankly, "talent" are a dime a dozen. It's much harder to find a great producer or photographer than it is to find a great anchor or reporter. Really the only downside for losing an anchor is the promotion that a station puts in that person is lost.

At 2:18 PM, June 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's about talent. Viewers watch for people they like and feel comfortable with. Good talent is not a dime a dozen.

At 4:33 PM, June 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You have clearly never been in a position to hire talent. I agree about viewers connecting with talent, but good talent is very easy to find. But if any anchor in this town left tomorrow, I could easily replace any one of them with someone very good. That is the truth.

Ok, big shot. You the man. Must by an Alyse supporter.

At 6:41 PM, June 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alyse supporter? What are you talking about? You're comment doesn't make sense.

At 7:04 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Liz looks great in her fishing pictures. She needs to do the news in her T-shirt and ball cap.

At 8:22 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Big shot here... I'm not sure what you meant by the Alyse supporter comment. But I thought the Alyse hire was a dumb publicity stunt. My point is that if she were too leave and I was hiring for that position, I would have 100 resumes on my desk of people way more experienced and talented than her by tomorrow.

At 10:23 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'll say this... She is more talented than any of the other female non-anchor types that THV has to fill that position. It was going to be Pam Baccam. You are correct on the publicity stunt angle. Besides it was an Audas move.

At 10:42 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

She doesn't bother me. I actually think she ended up being the right person for the job. It will be interesting to see how long she sticks around THV. Max, Alyse, and Ashley are the only ones I can see being able to move to larger markets.

At 11:11 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Alyse hire was a publicity stunt, but one that worked. Have you heard her read the news on 100.3 The Edge? Very good annunciation and smooth delivery. Old folks love her because she got cheated out of the crown and want her to succeed. Also, her conservative look works for her. My concern when they hired her was that she was going to be Miss America everyday. She isn't doing that which is a positive.
Liz is a good ole girl and that goes a long way in this market, too.
You haters need to get a life.

At 11:43 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

How have the ratings been since Alyse has been on the show? Has anyone looked at the trend?

At 12:16 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Craig is moved to the morning show, one of the girls will get the boot. Who stays? Ashley or Alyse?

At 7:01 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If they move Craig to mornings, them who will anchor at night? Other than Liz and Dawn?

At 1:24 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't mind Alyse but the ratings say it hasnt worked. The ratings are much worse now than they were when they hired her. I do think they need to cool it with the cat. It's tired....

At 7:25 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

November was worse, February was better than the year before, and May didn't see much change from the year before. The morning show is the best thing they have going for them.

At 8:14 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alyse is not the problem. 7 promotes the heck out of Daybreak and gives away big cash and vacations during sweeps. I never see a THV morning show promo, but anytime I'm on ABC, I get nothing but "watch Daybreak and we'll give you something BIG," and I don't mean Riverfest passes. Drive around Little Rock and a billboard is reminding us to watch Daybreak. I don't see THV on a billboard.

At 9:34 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Melinda, ALLYSON!, and Chris are smiling down on us in Conway, too.

It sure would be nice to see Alyse or Wendy on a billboard.

At 9:40 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

7:25, May was worse than November. THV was tied and sometimes beat by KARK in the morning. Take a real look at the book. They lost over half their audience in many demos and HH's. All the stations, including FOX gave away Ipads, gas cards and other things. The idea is to get viewers. KATV had a plan, it worked.

At 9:55 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You don't compare books from November to May. You compare from year to year (ex: May to May) and THV didn't drop much if you look at those numbers. February to February numbers were higher than they ever were when Alyson was at THV. KARK's morning show is a non-issue and shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as 7 and 11's morning shows! They are so far behind it's not even funny.

At 10:19 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is what I was looking at according to the AB article. At 5am, THV lost from a 4 to a 2. Half the audience from May to May. Correct me if I'm wrong. As a media buyer, that is where I look.

At 10:22 AM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey Fox didn't give away an Ipad...it was a kindle fire Ok let's get the facts....LOL in case you didn't know it was a joke

At 1:44 PM, July 01, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The share is where you see the audience. If you are a media buyer and don't know that, sad. You look at share lost, not ratings because the huts could be different. % of rating points is not % of audience.

I work in downtown Little Rock and I despise KATV management for not putting some of that money they are making into that eyesore of a building. Get "The Spirit of Arkansas", be a good neighbor and put a coat of paint on that neglected building.

Hey KARK it is not "Convenient Store" it is "Convenience Store." But thanks for the Monday morning laugh.

All of these misspelled words would make a great drinking game. Chug a beer every time you see a mistake.

Hey give 'em a brake. The morning show producer is probably a 22 year old making 21 grand a year.

Disappointing that a stumbler and a screamer in the morning get the rewards of these ratings. Both talk so loud that you can hear the echo of their voices coming off the walls of the studio-- and those walls aren't that close. The mike is on your chest, folks! If I was the competition, I'd be screaming fluke when it comes to ratings.

So true about Chris Kane-- the kids looks good but can't read his way out of a paper bag. He'll be fine, though if he actually stops looking in the mirror and reads over his scripts.
Melinda is a pro--can't fluster her. But, would you too please quite "thanking" each other when you're chatting on the lounge chairs? It's supposed to be a quasi-conversation between two people that we happen to be watching. I can't remember every "thanking" someone for saying something. Very condescending sounding.
I'm also wondering if Chris Kane is the new Chuck Dovish for KATV. Nick stole that one outright from his KTHV days.
