Why go to radio? Pay is usually less etc?

Who is the replacement?

Wes Moore -Sorry to see you go! You are part of a very good team for TV media and will be missed. Your wife is doing very well at another station - I hope this is a very good move for you personally- as a viewer I will miss your One Moore Thought. Best Wishes.

He will end up at one of the other stations. The station who lands him after his contract limitations end will benefit. He's the only sports person in the market that offers the whole package. He's not just an anchor like some. Wes is willing and able to carry the ball. 7, 4 and 16 should snag him because he's better than what they have. 11 dropped the ball.

All due respect to Wess Moore but if you don't think Sully offers the whole package I don't know what you're looking for. I often see him out in the community shooting Little Heroes on weekends and he is clearly very hard working despite his high position.

12:15 am

I agree Sully is the whole package. Remember when he and Berry jumped ship from KARK 4 to KATV 7.

Smart move by them and by KATV 7.

Sully is now the only TV sports guy in Central Arkansas who matters. Although I really think the young sports guy at 4 is pretty good.

I agree, I like Wes but Sully is a great sports director. He's likable, professional, and seems very hard working. Can you imagine how hard it must have been to follow Paul Eells? Not many could have done that. Good luck Wes, you'll do well in whatever you do.

Maybe 11 should just cut sports? It's going to be tough to attract someone viewers would respect.

At 4:44 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sully at KATV and David Raath at Fox are the best in the market. Wes will be missed though. I wonder if Mark Edwards is going to move up?

Heard the sales manager left. Wonder what happened there?

4:44 I think he should. Looks ready to me... I say give him a shot!

To work in this market, any sports guy has to work their tail off. From what I've seen, most of them do. Sully is out there, has been for two decades. He's a fixture. Raath seems to be a likable, talented guy, has spoken to my uncle's Lions club and has nothing but good things to say about him. Wes was solid too and will do well in radio. THV and KARK now have to find quality replacements so there's no falloff. BTW, where did Kerri end up?

At 9:26 PM, June 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

8:34 - Kerri moved back to Idaho and is going to sell real estate.

will miss looking at him

Snavely and Edwards are good and they deserve promotions.

The challenge for them is to find the right balance among local, Razorback, and national sports. When Dale Jr won it should have been on the sports that night at 10 as a way to connect with the viewers. Instead, we are treated to coverage of a fat guy trying to find the best hot dog in Omaha.

Plus being a sports anchor is backwards, your main person should work Wednesday through Sunday and give it to the junior person on Mondays and Tuesdays.

agree about putting Sports Director on from Wednesday thru Sundays.....I guess most feel like they've earned the family time but the weekends are when big sporting events occur and you really should have your best. You think ESPN would tell their top analysts to "enjoy your weekend" and staff with kids right out of school? No way.
As far as Dale Jr....NASCAR blows. The cars aren't athletes. They'd be better off showing that during a farm report. Not a sport.

This all sounds like Wes has kept his lip buttoned and nobody knows for sure where he is going.

At 6:50 PM, June 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

He's going to KARK.

At 8:45 AM, June 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Wes is going to KARK. He has a 6 month non-compete to honor. That puts him on around the Feb. book.

At 3:02 PM, June 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KARK isn't hiring a sports person to replace Keri O'hara. That position went to hire the new guy in Fayetteville. KARK will only have one sports person in Little Rock. It's all about Razorbacks coverage.

At 8:48 PM, June 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

3:02 so does that mean their former weekend guy will be their main guy M-F...does that mean their freelance guy will just stay on and work weekend?

At 7:02 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

All Razorbacks for KARK Sports is a bad idea. There will be no connection to the Central Arkansas community and down go the ratings.

At 9:43 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Exactly, and it will suuuuck!

At 10:36 AM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That means that basically all sports on KARK will be done from Fayetteville.

i can't stand mark on 11. take craig off of news and let him do sports!

Wow! It's amazing how everyone has such a strong opinion about who should replace Wes at 11. Some people on here couldn't tell TALENT if it smack them across the face. Truth is, Mark is well-qualified to take over as SD at 11. He's a LR native. He's worked in LR radio & TV for almost 20 yrs. Why on earth would 11 bring in someone else with no experience of the market or no contacts in Arkansas to do the job? I might know the real reason for so much disapproval of Mark's on-air prowess. Is it that his sports "vernacular" might rub some people the wrong way...mostly to shallow Southerners? I'd much rather watch Mark or Sully(legend) doing sports, than Rath or Peters or anyone over at 4. They're so dry and come off as very condescending. Here's the truth: most sports guys(who are very good in this industry) are upbeat & positive personalities. They're natural, warming and they're suppose to make the average sports viewer(or non sports viewer)feel comfortable. Not come across as trying to be some on-air comedian. In closing, some people on this blog really need to get out of their box and realize that it's 2012 and not 1982. Mark isn't just some young, wet behind the ears kid who just graduated college or worked in their 1st market. He's a veteran of the business who(besides Sully), has made a lot more lead way in the LR market than any other LR sportscaster in the last 10 years. The ball is in 11's court. Do the right thing and promote Mark to SPORTS DIRECTOR.
And for the record, I'M NOT MARK EDWARDS, I'm just a fellow professional in the TV business sticking up for one of the good guys.

At 5:27 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mark doesn't have a good work ethic and is not dependable. He will not get the job. This too from a fellow professional who has heard the rub against him. That said he's everything you said above. Having contacts is not enough.

You know the race card is usually the last one in the deck.

At 8:59 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You said "race card"...I never mentioned that in my rant. I just called it for what it is. But at least you were intelligent enough to pick up on what I was saying. But since you brought it up...... It's a shame that people in Atlanta, Montgomery, Dallas & New Orleans don't have a problem w/a person of color as a Sports Director.... or a lead News Anchor for that matter. And based on some of these post, its good to know that the residents of Arkansas are still living in the pre-Jim Crow. era. In regards of "work ethic"...when was the last time Wes picked up a camera? How about David Rath? Aaron Peters? Kerri O'Hara when she was at 4? Or even Sully? To say someone doesnt have a good "work ethic" & isnt "dependable" is exactly the vile & disrespectful tone I've been talking about pertaining to most of the post on this board. Its easy to walk into work, bark out orders & call yourself "the man". Its another to be "the man"in doing everything under the sun, but not get the credit you deserved. Save that weak talk for someone else. Get your facts right before you hit PUBLISH.

At 9:20 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can't speak for work ethic, but I can say as a general viewer that I enjoy Mark Edwards on sports and would love to see him get the sports director job.

The man does a good job, is knowledgeable and has put in his time and deserves the job unless there is a compelling reason behind the scenes not to give it to him.

the Wednesday though Sunday idea is a a good one ... not sure how it would fly in some markets without a substantial pay increase.

At 10:23 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Speaking of getting facts straight before you hit publish, Sully shoots all his own stuff. And he does it very well.

At 10:32 PM, June 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Duly noted. My mistake. That doesn't surprise me about Sully. But what about the other Sports Anchors I mentioned? There's a difference between picking up a camera on a daily basis and picking up a camera.......only when it's a last resort. Meaning, when the assignment desk doesn't have any news photogs available to shoot a game, VO/SOT or PKG. Your answer please.

Sorry to see that Wes is leaving, but I kind of suspected that it would happen. Replacement wise, Mark Edwards should be offered the opportunity if he wants to take it. He has done both radio and television and does a good job. If he is given some control, I am sure that he will do well.

Give the lazy, poorly spoken, black guy the job. He is an inspiration for all the other lazy black people in this town.

Wow. I rest my case. Stay classy Arkansas.

Mark Edwards is embarrassingly bad.

I am so glad I don't work in the LR market anymore if you are any example of the fine people who do!

At 10:47 PM, July 02, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow! Shameful that some would post such garbage. Mark should get the job!! Whoever signed Mark's name was so coward enough they did not site their name. SLANDER! That young man work hard and is involved in the community on a regular basis. Give Mark Edwards a shot!!

10:47 must have gone to the same grammar school as Mark

My guess is he is going to join Shawn Arnell on KARN-AM 920 to replace Wally Hall.

WOW....I can't believe some of the things that are being said on here!!! In my opinion, Mark Edwards is a very good replacement. He has put in his time and has done well. From what I see and understand, a lot fo times this young man is working ALONE when everyone else has someone "tagging along" to help out! He shoots his own stuff...He writes his on stuff and you have the NERVE to talk about work ethic? Really? Some of these comments are emabarrasing coming from fellow Arkansans!

Mark will get it since he's black and we live in the illegal immigrant sack of crap obama era

In regards to the crap I have read above. I't doesn't make you a mean spirited stick in the mud to want to hear a sports cast presented with decent English that viewers ranging from 65+ to teenagers can understand. There is also nothing wrong with presenting a story with a little flair from the kids (young people) giving their hearts to the game. With that said on Tonight's THV post razorback game day show, I think I saw a star and he was seated directly across from Mark Edwards, the razorback's own Michael Smith. This young man has something I feel has been missing in Little Rock since that terrible day in August just over 6 years ago. He is knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about, but more importantly he knows how to give his audience what they need to know w/o insulting them in the progress. Don't get me wrong he is raw but with work, you can see him fill the roles of both former razorbacks most prominent in the broadcast profession, The play by play skills of "PAT" Summerall and the expert "color commentary" of Jimmy Dykes.
