Luckie Not So Lucky?
This from a tipster: KTAL is threatening to fire their new reporter, Lane Lucky, unless he changes his name, even though they have allowed him to be on the air for three weeks with it. They cited credibility issue.

Credibility? Why not fire Rick Boone!? He has NO credibility. He reads so poorly (and thinks so poorly), he changes the meaning of stories!
And if Lane Lucky is credibly because of his name, explain to me why they kept Maria Vellejo and Rustin Duke after their DUI's? They kept Maria even after the Shreveport and Bossier Police, Mayor's office, and several other officials wouldn't talk to her. But they're going to get rid of this Lane Lucky kid, because of his NAME? Way to go KTAL! And they wonder why they are #3 (or is it #4 now that Fox is in town?).
It's upsetting.

I don't understand why you people don't see that just because the INQUISITOR says you have a DUI you are charged with one. Ill give you one good reason Maria and Rustin were not fired, THEY WERE NOT CHARGED!!
So stop the KTAL bash about why they do what they do. Lane Luckie's name sucks for TV. He should want to change it, so when he gets his DUI, the INQUISITOR would front page him.
Second, he's not good. KTAL will do anything to get you gone, if you are not good at your job. (unless youre Scott Thomas)

Sure the DUI people may have not been charged - but the everyone knew that the situations had happened. In TV, we know that is just as bad. Their credibility had been shattered.
So that argument about them NOT being convicted just doesn't hold water. This isn't a court - this is TV! They don't have to be convicted. They got bad press and it looked bad on the station. Further more, Maria could no longer talk to Police and city officials... and lots of other people because she was always giving WRONG information on the air... PLUS they would not let her do live shots because she sounded "crazy." But they still kept these people on... HECK! They kept Maria on even though their main anchor couldn't say her last name! How's that one for you? At least he can say LUCKY!.
You know what, this all may be Rick Boone's doing. He's known for getting everyone turned against people when they are better than him... and this kid is WAY better than him.
And whoever said this kid isn't good is crazy. He's the best reporter to come to KTAL since Jessica James! If they don't keep him, they're stupid.
ALSO... Lane Lucky is a great name for TV. It rolls off the tongue and is very memorable. It's flashy, but not ridiculous... and it's just real enough to be believable.
As for KTAL getting rid of people who suck at their job... no, not so much. They keep lots of people on that are terrible. They keep people behind the scenes that are terrible too. They have that "don't back down" philosophy... where even if you were wrong, you don't back down.
no need to start bashing people over the DUI thing. that's a separate issue. i disagree with the 1 person above who said Luckie's not good. look him up on ktal's website. very solid stuff. great reporter and great to work with...from what i hear. looks like ktal management is trying to bully another person new to the business to get what they want. sounds like they are pressing the issue even though ktal know's they're wrong. props to lane luckie for standing up for what he believes...not enough people like that.
Credibility shattered? DUI is not murder. EVERYONE DRINKS, so how can anybody point fingers and refuse to listen to anyone who drinks? If you are not convicted, then what's the issue.
I just think if you are gonna fall back on DUI's everytime some crappy person gets pinched at KTAL or anywhere, then you are just that person that really doesn't understand how it really works.
Lane Lucky sounds like a showgirl or racehorse.

It's the news... not Hollywood. The public could care less about these people. They just want to know WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW - and will it affect them?
If this is what KTAL gets in a bunch about, it shows why people are watching the other stations.
I watch Channel 3 everyday, and I couldn't tell you a single name. I think reporters and news people get a bloated sence of who and what they are. They are just the voices and faces that tell me the news. They are not celebrities.
So, who care what their names are?
KTAL needs to just get good reporters, treat them well, and hold onto them.
No... DUI is not murder... but it could easily become murder. How careless of you to even say that.
But if the news stations are all about the image game (obviously so, worrying about some guy's name), then a reporter spending a night in jail and having his or her mugshot plastered all over the Inquisitor is not good for the station image.
News watchers are OLD people. Old people judge! Old people turn the channel when they think people are being immoral. Shreveport is a protestant town, mostly Baptist. Baptists don't approve of drinking or clubbing. When a news stations seems to have a bunch of club kids working there, the old folks are going to change the channel.
So, once again, why did KTAL let the drunks stay there so long, but now want to worry with a "non-issue."
I'm sure no one in the audience had even thought about that guy's name. I for one had not. Who cares? At least I can say it.
The drunks? I think the GAYS on 12 and 3 turn the Baptists away WAY before the drunks do. Show of hands at EVERY church on Sunday who has drank, then who is gay or approves of being gay?
Let's not start naming ALL the gays on TV that RUN CHRISTIANS to the "off" button.
So before you get all high and mighty with the bible and who's watching, get the gays off the TV, then the guys that wack off, then the whores, then the drunks, then the guys with bad names.....in that order.

Uh, maybe I'm missing something here, but was this reporter's name Lane Lucky when KTAL hired him? It hardly seems fair to hire someone and then LATER demand that same person to change their name because of a "credibility issue". If that's how KTAL feels about this guy's name, then why in the heck did they hire the guy? I don't reckon anyone twisted their arm. It's ridiculous for them to have hired him and then turn around and say "we don't like your name".
Is he in the need of a good attorney? Actually a fairly-good one could win that case.

KARK Channel 4 in Little Rock, a NEXSTAR station, has a weekend anchor named Soonseeahrah Tonsall.....And KTAL, another NEXSTAR station, is worried about the name "Lane Lucky"? Give me a break......
Perhaps his contract stipulated that he would change his name, and he is now balking.
Lane Luckie happens to be his real name. I know the station hired him under that name. After he was hired, they told him to change his name, "or else." Now they've suspended him because he wants to keep his legal name. He's a good reporter just starting his career; he just got hired by a bad company. And...he's got enough backbone to stand up to management. So, cheers to him for keeping his integrity and principles even though it will probably cost him his job! Really, he's too talented to work for a no-class station like KTAL.

You just made the case that this is a local decision not Nexstar. If they let the lady in Little Rock keep that name then it's not Nexstar but KTAL. Who is making this demand? Is it the ND or the GM? It's all about how the contract is written.
At least they don't have that Michael Jackson nosed Lane Stone who also had a fake sounding name anymore. Rick Boone is weird and looks down his nose (ha, ha, I know) at southerners and doesn't even pretend to take part in the culture, but makes fun of it. Todd Warren is freaky and likes to sound important and they push him til we want to die. I think Lucky has a weird name, but if that's what his mama gave him then whatever. KTAL should have made him change it before. I hope he keeps up the good fight!

Obviously, you are in the business, since you seem to know of "gays" over at 3 and 12. The audience is unaware of the "gays" over there... I'm guessing their "gayness" is just not as obvious as your drunkeness... Since their "gayness" has not been paraded around on The Inquisitor, but your drunkeness has.

It's the news director AND especially the general manager. They told him he must change his name after they hired him! By the way, neither the news director nor the GM use their real names.
Luckie maintains his real name is good enough and that he would NOT have credibility if he was interviewing news sources and expecting them to be truthful when he wasn't being truthful about his name. that's only one of his reasons for refusing to change his name.
Main one is that he was told his name was no big deal when they were in process of hiring him. It was three weeks later after he went to work and went on the air that they told him "Change it or else." When he refused, they took him off the air, then they suspended him without pay apparently to try and pressure him into changing his name.
I'll bet lawyers are ringing his phone 24/7 wanting to represent him.
If a name change was a stipulation of him working there and he signed a contract, then he is bound by it. That's why you should always get a lawyer to look at your contract before signing it.
If it was in the contract and if it was expected of him to change his name upon being hired, then this game Luckie seems to be playing is at futile gain.
That's just the way it is in TV news...

Changing his name wasn't a condition of his being hired. It's also not in his contract. There is nothing in his contract that says he must change his name. And he wasn't told he must change his name before he was hired. This was all dreamed up by the news director and GM AFTER he worked there for three weeks.

Mr. Luckie stood his ground and told KTAL where to go. Who knows if a lawsuit will follow. It's TV news in the 21st century, so I can only assume one will. KTAL deserves a good punch in the face after trying to pretend Luckie didn't have a contract and then used the non-existent contract as a bargaining tool. Real good people. *wink wink*
From what I have heard, Mr. Luckie really is lucky and is headed off to bigger and better things.
With his talent and pretty face, he'll be a lead on CNN before KTAL's current crop of stooges can figure out how to write a sweeps piece.

Lane Luckie is too good a reporter for a chicken s--- distant third ranked station like KTAL. If he's gone, it's their loss over their short-sighted judgment. Good for him for not allowing two hacks like the general manager and news director to bully him or push him around. They haven't had talent like him before, and they never realized they were the lucky ones to have him. The irony is that they've made his name so well known that everyone who sees him on the news from now on will immediately remember him as the rookie reporter who held to his principles and stood up to two dim-wits! They both should be fired over their stupidity. I wish Mr. Lucky much good luck as he leaves KTAL behind and moves on to better stations with better management.
It's really crappy that Lane was harrassed into quiting, and now only days later, the news director announces he is leaving. He ignored everything else... Why couldn't he have ignored this?

This is insane...just another example of how crazy north louisiana is....we need some good reporters in new orleans! Come on down lane luckie! Most of ours leave to run for politics, and hey lane luckie sounds good on a ballot! We had a Helena Morena and thats WAY crazier than lane luckie!
Why does KTAL site credibility issues with Lane Lucky's? They have never had any credibility in the first place? Getting rid of Rick Boone, and that puffy wack job on the morning show would be a great start.
Lane Luckie is currently anchoring the news at KTRE in Lufkin, TX. He's doing a great job. I used to live in Bossier City, and now I live in Lufkin. KTAL's (and Shreveport's) loss, is Lufkin & east Texas's gain. He's got a home at KTRE and they don't try to pull chickenshit on him like chickenshit KTAL.
I consider every person should read this.
