Good Luckie at KTAL. Why not just start hiring high school kids?

Good for him. Nothing wrong with hiring someone straight out of college. He has talent and deserves a shot. He does a good job. He does better than some with experience at other local stations.

As far as hiring out of high school...if the person is good, why not.

Why did they hire a guy?

We didn't want a rookie reporter! We wanted a nookie reporter!

Luckie has put in two weeks so far, covering the stress and aftermath of Hurricanes turning the Ark-La-Tex upside down. He's doing good solid reports...Not to shabby for a kid right out of college, KTAL has some reporters that can't follow that with their years of experience, I mean months...Hell, for the most part all of them are straight out of college. Luckie's a good hire for the station, he'll actually work.

I'm afraid the world favors the young - especially in jobs like TV News where it's all about being quick and ready. Poor Jim Roberts would break a hip if he had to get out the door too quick - plus he just never got over the switch to color.

Lucky is doing a great job! He's a solid reporter - great voice - easy to work with - and looks great on camera. Maybe I'm a bit shallow, but I just prefer NOT to get my news from ugly people (unless they're just really good like Jeanie Moss).

And Lucky just doesn't look that young on TV (to me). I don't remember anyone complaining because Chrissie Coil was practically a teeny-bopper when she was hired.

Is Jessica James officially the weekend anchor at KTAL?

Sure enough. And good thing too because now KTAL actually has news on the weekends instead of something that belongs on PBS

Right now, Jessica James and Lane Lucky are the only good reporters KTAL has. They are consistent, quick, and flexible. I'd dare say they are two of the best reporters in the area.

Too bad they aren't treated better. Seems like the slackers and idiots (and I do mean idiots) get all the respect.

Some older dogs in the S'port-Bossier market never leave because:

A. The station they work for doesn't like change and promotes job security for mediocre players who are a consistent quantity.

B. The old dogs found a comfy rut that they never felt compelled to climb out of.

rumor has it that he is going to leaving soon.

Lane Luckie is probably the best reporter that third-rate station has ever hired. My inside info is that the gm insists that this young reporter change his name, and he refuses to do so. Truth is, he's too good for a DeathStar station. Hope he leaves them in the dust! this is a good example of why they stay #3 in the Shreveport market. No judgement and no ethics at the management level.

The name change situation is true. They waited 3 weeks to suddenly tell him to change his name. They said it wasn't professional enough, and that the audience would not buy news from the name Lucky. Of course, why would the audience suddenly be Okay with a name change? Why would they accept news from someone who just changed his name? But, this is what the powers that be at KTAL worry about... names and whatnot... instead of content or working equipment or a working SYSTEM of managers and staff.

And since when does the GM have so much say-so over the creative departments? Shouldn't he just hire competent people to do those tasks?

I'm getting off topic. Lane Lucky is a great reporter, and KTAL is just screwing themself again. Why don't they just call all the DUI folks back? They kept all of them forever, but want to get rid of this kid because of his NAME!?

Why not start hiring high school kids? They's be better than anyone else KTAL has. I like how everyone puts all this input but has no right and no insight. Lane Luckie was the best reporter by far that this station has seen in God knows how long, and they want to change his name? Lane Luckie....sounds much better than names I've seen in the past (ie: Ed Duranzik, David Begnaud, Liz Swayne) Lane Luckie is his real name and it is easy to say and sounds very professional. As far as the name change goes, why would you ever decide to change your name after being on air 2 weeks? I understand when reporters like Sherry Allen switches to Sherry Tally and I know why and that makes since, but not for Lane. If I watched a guy on the news (doing an awesome job by the way) and then he switched his name I would be like wtf? KTAL is making a huge mistake and I hope they know that it will be too late when they see their deminising ratings start to lower once again!

I completely agree with you anonymous... Well, the last Anonymous.

Let the Lucky kid stay and let him keep his name.

KTAL needs to quit biting themselves in their own rear.

They have something good. Don't let someone WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT NEWS or the CREATIVE WORLD mess this up.

Last I heard, Nexstar has a corporate news consultant who has say on all the Nextar stations. So maybe that's where the name-change comes from. Maybe not...just adding what I heard.

And if Sherry Tally got married, and then her full name became Sherry Tally Whacker... would that be cool ???

The reason they hire you DAYCARE WORKERS out of college has nothing to do w/talent. It's purely financial. Corporations have a term for it. HIGH-TECH MIGRANT workers. Simply put, you'll work for 50-70% below what wages used to be in the 1980's. Your ego doesn't worry about a mortgage or family medical bills. Management knows you live for the bright eyed person who comes up and says, "hey.. aren't you joe stiff hair from channel 869? Fred and me watch you every night" Forget dollars. You sure don't have any SENSE. You're sure not better looking, smarter, blessed w/ better voices than anybody who has come before you at KTAL. Your sense of history is always yesterday. And your attention spans rival that of a lightening bolt. KTAL IS A BAD TV station. In fact, it's pinnacle was reached in the mid 80's when Walter Hussman owned it. Even then, people laughed. As the OLD DOGS used to say at WTVJ-TV in Miami. Who is our latest PUNK OF THE MONTH? Good luck knocking down that lofty $15,000 a year, while misquoting city councilmen and mispronouncing parishes. The folks at Burger King & Popeyes don't have college degrees, yet they EARN A BETTER LIVING. Makes you wonder if the PUPPY holding that college diploma in the family photo album got grifted?
