40/29 to Call the Hogs
Source: KHBS/KHOG 40/29 will be carrying the Arkansas-Texas game Saturday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m. The following Saturday, September 20, the Alabama-Arkansas game will air on 40/29 in High Definition. Pre-game coverage begins at 11:00 a.m. with kick-off at 11:30.
To prepare for the battle between old rivals Arkansas and Texas, 40/29 Sports is presenting a 30-minute live special, “Attack on Austin: Hogs vs. Horns”, Thursday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m., live from Austin, TX. Craig Cannon and Mark Lericos will be anchoring coverage from Austin during the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts beginning Wednesday at 10:00pm.
And after Saturday’s game, watch 40/29 for extended coverage post game until the Ohio State-USC game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

About time they show up. It is obvious that they were far behind the other twp stations. Mike has been around the longest and has everyones respect and KNWA has shown they are the new dominant player. Mark talks the talk but until this effort his station hasn't walked the walk. Let's see how they do.
What will KHOG do when the game is rescheduled due to Hurricane Ike?

Mark hasn't walked the walk. Isn't he the one that broke all of the news on Houston Nutt? I'm sorry, but he's my guy for Razorback coverage. Too much drama at KNWA and too little excitement for Arkansas athletics at 5 snooze.
Just what I want to watch... extended coverage of the Hogs getting SLAUGHTERED in Austin. I'm sorry, but if they can barely beat Western Illinois and Louisiana Monroe, what makes anyone believe they can even compete with the Horns? I'm not a Texas fan at all either, I just know this is going to be embarrassing... and then to watch Lericos and Cannon ramble about the beating will be... snooze...

Why is Craig Cannon involved? Is this a news event? Love who he always injects himself into the big sports coverage and just ruins it. Remember their final four coverage from Seattle in 95? He and Mike Nail at a bar with Craig rambling on.

Hopefully this means we get to actually see the game at the 2:30 start time vs. the post game of the raycom game and not have to deal with watching tape delayed broadcast that is 45 minutes behind the actual game...

40/29's GM is pulling his hair out right now. No game, which means no advertising revenue for all these sales packages and shows his salesman sold.

Did anyone else see the KFSM NEWS I-CAM they had on tonight during the Tropical Storm Ike coverage? It was quite possibly the worst video I have ever seen on tv. You could not tell where they were or what was going on and half the time it seemed the camera was pointed towards the sky. Being that it was at 10PM and was completely dark this is just another example of the poor quality, poor decisions, and overall sub-standard product that has come to define KFSM.
You mean Garett hyping this storm up wasn't enough for you? I guess the people like to watch him because of how nice he rolls up his sleeves. Hey Garett....next time, don't scare people over a 40 mph wind gust and some rain.
Typical forecast from a Mississippi Stater
Yeah Garrett was calling for winds up to around Hurricane force. I doubt Garrett has all of a sudden become a poor forecaster (although he never was the best). I imagine he is being pressured to hype the weather up a bit. Its not just Garrett though. The whole operation at KFSM is deteriorating.
The product at KFSM may be declining, but their ratings beat the heck outta everyone else.

Not to be agist here, but the senior citizen population that keeps KFSM at the top probably don't care about a bad set and old, fat and ugly broadcasters telling them the news. Now, the younger generation (and I mean older than high schoolers but not gray-haired yet) actually does care about Irwin's postgame liveshot going to black because the stadium turned the lights off on him (camera's light was off at night, outdoors?), or Mike tossing back to the desk when a guy was picking his nose? I rarely watch 5, but when I do, something's usually going wrong. Sorry... *click*
I tried to watch 40/29's coverage of the Arkansas/Texas game this weekend and there wasn't anything there!
What happened?
Lewis was calling for tropical storm force winds. 58mph and 200k without power isn't just a breeze. The bigger question is why were all the other media stations at home watching 5 instead of covering the first tropical storm to hit arkansas since the 50s?
It wasn't a tropical storm when it it us...it was a tropical depression. It was the interaction with the cold front that gave it the strong winds. So Lewis, you were wrong...just like every forecast you make. Move on!
I guess all of the 200K were watching 5 in the dark without power as well....go back to your station 5 homer.
Yes, the Mississippi State University Broadcast Meteorology Program (aka a correspondence course to be a meteorologist) prevents Mr. Lewis from being able to accurately forecast.
The strongest winds were behind the center of the circulation (N-NW Winds) and so yes the strong winds were the result of a combination of low pressure along the Front/Ike and the high pressure to the west causing a tight pressure gradient on the left side of Ike. Lewis failed to mention any of this because he just doesn't know. Its not his fault. Mississippi State's Meteorology Correspondence is a joke.

Well, if you'll check your latest NWA Ad Zone ratings from July .. you'll see the big nickle beat everyone in persons 25-54 .. in ALL 3 NEWSCASTS.. It's amazing how old fat people are whipping everyone else's ass right now. Maybe if Craig gained a little weight to offset his unbalanced face .. and Donna lost some of her "funbags", maybe the "blue haired" people ages 25-54 will watch more .. especially in the NWA Ad Zone...
Actually, Garrett did mention all that from 1am to 2am -the height of the storm - when all the other stations were showing infomercials.
Fact is, 5 covered it. No one else did.
The king of hype Garrett Lewis was all over this storm. He called it days in advance how Hurricane Ike would blow over the mountains and cause the Arkansas River to run backwards. When the storm was hitting he was the one explaining how the super suck zone pressure was creating a area of psycho insane winds that were going to cause life threatening situations. He made sure we all knew to not go outside at 2 in the morning or we might get hit in the head by rain or worse - AIR. Yes, indeed the fact is this storm was OWNED by Garrett Lewis. He created it, he moved it, and with one giant breath he destroyed it with his anti-wind super breath gun. Thank Goodness for Garrett Lewis.
I am not sure a news station with a main anchor with 5 double chins should be talking about appearances.
July??? Are you joking? No one gives July any credit. News Depts give their people vacation days to get ready for the three that matter. What about May, Feb and Nov. You should stick with Ft. Smith. I will say you have come a long way in NWA but still have a way to go in the books that matter. By the way, 18-49 is what the advertisers are now looking to get. I hate to say this but in story count, 5 is doing more stories up north than 29.
I am so sad 29 was not able to deliver a quality pregame special. I was really looking forward to watching Mike Lericos and Craig Canyon talk about the tradition of the rivalry. 29 always does a terrific job of covering games and I like Donita Bragg the best.
It appears that Craig "Canyon" won't be going to Austin on the second go-round.
