New Anchor at KATV
KATV debuted a new anchor on Live at Five Tuesday. Heather Crawford has taken the spot next to Scott Inman. Crawford comes to KATV from FOX 13 in Memphis. HERE's a link to her FOX 13 bio.Is Crawford taking over the co-anchor duties for 5, 6 and 10?
UPDATE: At the end of Live at Five, Christina Munoz was previewing some of the stories coming up at 6. Seems Munoz will be the anchor during the 6pm and 10pm newscasts. One can only wonder why KATV brought in an anchor just for the 5pm newscast. Do ya think they wanna eventually go the route of Channel with 5 or 6 people at the anchor desk during the newscast?

What happened to Christina?
She looks like Nancy Grace's daughter.
She is not taking over all shows. She is just doing the five and reporting for the ten. Christina is still doing the 6 and 10.
On Monday, Christina was "off tonight." I really thought Christina did a heck of a job.
At THV, there are only 2 news anchor chairs on the desk at all times. That means only 2 news anchors at a time.
Only when they introduced Dawn did all the on air anchors sit around the set.
There have never been 5 or 6 anchors on the newsdesk at one time.
They do rotate a lot though.
Thanks for clearing that up for us 5:54. We were really under the impression that they all sat around the desk at the same time all the time. Personally I thought they all huddled up and slept there overnight, sending Craig O'Neill to Taco Bell to pick up their Fourth Meal.
They're weeding Munoz out. Anytime you lose an anchor seat, it's not good news.
Welcome Heather and best of luck to you, but I wouldn't waste your time on this site.
Welcome to Arkansas!
I heard they were interviewing a couple of people. Apparently, Melissa Simas also heard about the job and inquired through a friend at the station. But management wasn't interested. I guess they don't see growth potential with her. I did not hear if anyone else in the market heard about it and tried to make a move.
Anybody hear anything else about others trying to wiggle in? I'm surprised they didn't promote from within. I bet there are some upset people at KATV.
KATV is playing copycat with Today's THV, just like it has with KARK's recent sports innovations. What ever happened to original slogans like "The Spirit Of Arkansas"? Why all of a sudden the change from Channel 7 News, to KATV7 News? Could it finally be a desperate reaction to the smell of a stale product? What's next Dale?

They are not weeding Munoz out. It's strictly a case of needing another anchor to fill in and take over when people are off. Munoz still has time left on her contract and they know the only way they can keep her is if it's her decision to stay.
It's makes sense to have a backup to do the 5:00 show so they have someone ready to go if she decides to leave. Simple as that. If munoz wouldn't have been there Kate Sullivan would never have been ablr to break her contract and go to New York.
Maybe Munoz is being recruited from somewhere else and they know they are going to need someone.
KATV has typically had two different female anchors. The only thing strange here is why it took them so long to get another one after Kate left.
Let's clear something up. Melissa did not express an interest in the job. KATV showed an interest in Melissa. She turned them down.
This looks like the same girl who did the story about the katrina victims selling a donated house. I thought that was a cnn reporter though?
To the person that asked about the change from Channel 7 News to KATV 7 News, my belief is that the station is intentionally moving away from the term "channel". After all, in not more than a year or so, technically there won't really be a "channel" 7. Just a theory.....
>Let's clear something up. Melissa did >not express an interest in the job. >KATV showed an interest in Melissa. >She turned them down.
Thanks for posting, Melissa.
But did the new girl receive proper WINTER STTTTTTOOOOOOOORRRRRRRMMMMMM training in Memphis?
Apparently, April Norris pushed the new girl out of Memphis.
Why is this so surprising to everyone?
How soon we forget.
Kate Sullivan = 5pm, Krista Platzer = 6 & 10pm. Christina Munoz = 5pm, Kate Sullivan 6 & 10pm (or vice-versa?). Kate leaves and Christina does all three until they hire someone for the 5pm (she knew this).
Come on people this is nothing new.
Wow blonde and perky. Who saw that coming? i give her two years tops.
Check out Melroy on Matilda's site, he's got pictures! www.MatildaintheRock.blogspot.com
I didn't even know that channel 7 had gone to katv 7 news. Channel 4 has been kark 4 news for a few years now.
Also, it was a smart move for channel 7 to hire outside the market because she is good. Every time they move someone up from reporter to anchor it's painful to watch until they get better. They needed to hire someone who already knew what they were doing intead of growing someone from within.
I know for a fact that Melissa Simas did NOT apply or inquire about the anchor job at KATV. As far as someone accusing her of posting on here... look at the time of the post, 10:30 pm. Anyone who does a morning show is fast asleep at that time. Let's check our facts before we spout off bad information.
But they are up at 10:50 a.m.
No, I'm not Melissa.
She's actually on the air right now.
KATV has been looking for a 5pm anchor since Kate Sullivan left. I know for a fact they offered Dawn Scott the 5pm show last spring, but she turned it down.
Per 12:22pm:
That's exactly right. And that's the whole reason THV squeezed together all of it's anchors.. because they found out Dawn might be going to KATV, and they didn't want to let that happen. They made a better offer and created a space for her to keep her from the competition.
Why wouldn't they let Melissa have the job?
Would women rather have chocolate or roses?
I'll bet they are making preperations for Scott Inmann to move to Sports and the Razorback job if he gets Daddy Frank's blessing.
Melissa didn't ask for the job.
KATV did not offer the job either.
KATV sure does have some attractive talent. It's like a modeling agency over there...
Does anyone think she looks like Karen Fuller?
Once again, Channel 7 is trying to hold on to its successful past. I don't blame them. It was good back then.
How? By having good talent? Wow, good slam.
"To the person that asked about the change from Channel 7 News to KATV 7 News, my belief is that the station is intentionally moving away from the term "channel". After all, in not more than a year or so, technically there won't really be a "channel" 7. Just a theory....."
That may well be true, especially with digital transmissions coming on line, however, KATV is copying off of KARK and Today's THV like it's got no creative juices left.
C'mon Pard, surely someone there at the Circle 7 ranch has some originality and creativity left.
I heard Melissa was up for the Alabama coaching job, but she turned it down before it was offered.
In a related note, Houston Nutt also turned down the 5p anchor position (I called that vosot, brutha!)
>Would women rather have chocolate or roses?
The question is, what would Melissa rather have - in case a station would be interested in not asking her to anchor the news?
Munoz and Simas on the same anchor desk?
Too much latin heat for Little Rock...
Thank you, Melissa for not being interested in moving to 7 and saving us all from a WINTER LATIN HEAT STTTTTOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRMMMMMMMM!
Since Simas came up, what does everyone think of the goatee her colleague Mike Francis has now? They talked about it endlessly Wednesday morning and they have a viewer poll about it up on their web site.
is it my imagination or does channel 7 have every female reporter in central arkansas working for them, where are the male reporters?
I heard that Michelle Rupp is Jewish and way to go michelle and shalom to my jewish robin,i luv u.
From what I hear, this girl has Dawn Scott shaking in her boots.
"That was a Called Anchor Change & I Called that Anchor Change"!
Houston Nutt
But seriously, it's no big deal. They
just need a male 5pm anchor to go back to like when they had Cary & Kate for 5 and Scott & Kate for 5 & 6 and Scott and Krista for Nightside.

How is this possible, when Dawn was offered and TURNED DOWN her job?

Because Dawn is too nervous to spend all the money KATV got her.
Don't take advantage of those Magic Kingdom rides. If you want to transfer, transfer now. That was a called play Chuck! I called that play brothu!
I asked them all to go ahead and get out if they're not happy. Get out now -- don't take advantage of me with the [Capital One] Bowl," Nutt said. "We've got too many Magic Kingdom rides, we have too many other things to do."
Houston
There is a One Year No Compete Clause in the Little Rock Market. She couldn't change stations until she sat out for one year!
Not true, knuckle-head. It varies from station to station and personality to personality.
"To the person that asked about the change from Channel 7 News to KATV 7 News, my belief is that the station is intentionally moving away from the term "channel". After all, in not more than a year or so, technically there won't really be a "channel" 7."
KATV broadcasts on analog ch 7 and digital channel 22. In feb 2009 when analog TV is shut down, KATV will no longer have channel 7. At that time, AETN will move their digital station to channel 7, because channels 2 - 6 are not suitable for digital TV.
So, KATV7 news makes more sense. They will likely drop the "7" in 2009, since KETS will have the right to use it.
With the digital set it won't amtter. Channel 22 will show up as KATV 7. Just like it does on cable.
No matter what your channel on digital you'll still be required to refer to yourself by your analog settings.

While Dawn may have her new contract signed, sealed and delivered there's her upcoming performance, presence and like-a-bility factor only to name a few contingencies she must deal with in order to continue her contract.
Sure, we all know she's currently preggo. Afterall, it's been announced 1,485,972 times now just counting on air times. She's going to have a baby at home, baby weight on her to rid and many other demands. Top that with a new hottie named Heather to compete with for ratings? Yeah, if she has a bean for a brain she'll be in a constant quiver. Not to mention she's already up against Jancey.
This may be a winter stoooooooooorm catfight! ROAR!
Quit calling Michelle Rupp a robin... she's a dove... a little dove... get with the program !
How absolutely disgusting that your station would highlight a 5 year old that is allowed to handle guns and kill animals!
I have worked with both Heather Crawford and Melissa Simas. They are both very talented anchors. I've seen them both go from field reporting to the anchor desk. Can't we all just get along.
So, I don't actually suppose this may have success.
Pretty effective info, thanks for the post.
