It's A New Day at KARK
So what does everyone think of the new KARK morning program? I had a chance to catch a total of one hour of the program the last two days and think KARK just might be on the right track.

I think the show looks really good. I wasn't a fan of their previous show but early on it looks like a big step up. Matt and Melissa really have chemistry.
I think it's good, but I thought it was good before, too. I really liked both Barbara and Tracy.
I still miss waking up to Barbara's voice, but I'm really glad Tracy is still there. Melissa is a doll, and Matt seems very upbeat and professional...I think I'm going to like this team just fine...
I love the talent, but there is no opportunity given for chit-chat. They have :30 sec at the begining of the half hours, and no time given between segments for the anchors to talk. I don't want 3 minutes of talking about nothing, but a little interaction helps the viewers get to know the anchors.
They are certainly on the right track. THV has increased their medication because of this
Who wouldn't want to wake up with Melissa Simas and Tracy Douglas?

It may be to soon to tell .. I think the show is OK ... I agree with a couple of the previous Blogs about Tracy being there .. I think she should be on the air more.
I would hope that the they would keep the show a little on the light side ... more like the Today Show ... I don't mind some healine news .. but do I really want to start my day with 2 hours of repetitive, and negative information, that I may hear 2 or 3 times agian throughout the day?

I think Tracy should be on there more, too. But then I'm in love with her so my judgement may be skewed. Melissa is a giant leap ahead. It's early but I'm going to suggest it's a much brighter future at KARK mornings. Melissa is strong enough to carry even those two goobers she's saddled with. Between her and Tracy, I can't wait to wake up in the morning!
I definitely think the show is on the right track, but I don't think Matt & Melissa have very good chemistry.... YET. I think she is still getting used to being an anchor, and he is having to get used to following a script doing news, rather than all the ad-lib BS he did when he was giving the weather at ch. 7.
Matt has enough chemistry for two people. Melissa, well, doesn't have it - yet. We'll see how things pan out. Matt will carry them for the mean time. Might be a good idea to work in Mike a little more as well. THV has nothing to be concerend with. KATV does.

And the problem is? Who wants to hear those uncomfortable moments when one anchor or other has absolutely no idea how to respond to what might be a ridiculous question or comment. There was a coanchor from Boozman MT years ago on KATV who asked some of the dumbest questions of her co's. Observe Craig Cannon on 40/29 for a current example of why 30 seconds is plenty of time for chitchat.
I think Matt is doing a great job. I don't think Melissa has the "spark" in her personality it takes to pull this off. I would rather see Matt, Tracy, and Mike. Melissa is just ok, and I feel sorry for Matt because there is no chemistry there, and he carries the whole show when it's just Matt and Melissa. I turned the channel out of curiosity, but I have to admit, I am addicted to BJ, Robyn, and Tom, and my loyalty will stay there.
Hellooooooo.... It's their THIRD DAY on the air together. Of course they don't have chemistry. Yet. It's like any relationship. The first few times you hang out with someone new is always awkward. I'm willing to give them a few months to "get to know them". Yes, we "know" BJ, Tom, and Robyn much better but some of you are comparing apples to oranges. Frankly, I think 4's new morning team already has more chemistry than their evening team, but that's not the topic here.
So what happens when KATV shows up #3 in the Mornings after November?
I also think the chemistry is weird with Matt and Melissa. It's not something you develop, either you have it or you don't. I agree that Matt and Tracy would have more chemistry. I still like THV the best, but good luck to them all. 4 is at least trying to improve.
I think Melissa has done a great job. I also don't think there is a chemistry problem.
I DO THINK THERE ARE JEALOUS PEOPLE HERE TRYING TO MAKE MELISSA LOOK BAD...

Here we go again ... just when you thought that most of the people who blog here were grown-ups ... somebody comes along to dispel that thought.
Anybody with any common sense at all... would realize how easy it is for anyone to say anything about anybody.
The reference to Tracy Douglass being somehow involved and jealous of Melissa is quite simply a lie. How do I know this? I'm not telling (yet)... but what I will do is dare the person or any person who makes fabricated claims to reveal their real identity ... it's very easy to hide behind the "anonymous" handle ... if someone is willing to do this, I will do the same. I can tell you this ... I am not a female ... I do not work at KARK ... I think Tracy is a great on air talent and I think that Melissa is doing a good job. I believe the person who wrote the referenced blog apparently has some kind of vendetta against Ms. Douglass and that they probably work at channel 4. It is one thing to voice different opinions ... but quite another to spread lies and rumors, in a childish attempt to ruin someone’s reputation.
I hope that the people who are subjects of negative comments on this blog realize that we who post our thoughts here are not necessarily representing the majority of the viewers out there and not to take much of what is said here to seriously.
I'll watch cause Melissa is a hottie!

I posted the comment about thinking Tracy should be sitting next to Matt. I work for an ad agency. I have no reason to be jealous of Melissa. It's just my objective opinion. I don't even know Tracy personally, but I like her personality. If you can't handle an objective point of view, then I suggest you get into a different career. Still love THV in the morning, sorry.
Ditto, just because someone is making a suggestion that favors Tracy does not mean SHE is making the comment. I have been on some focus groups for stations here and other markets, and I also say Tracy should be on more, and Melissa is very pretty, but it takes more than just looks to work on a morning show. You have to have as much genuine personality as you do anything else. Pretty only goes so far. Julia Grayson is a perfect example of this. She is beautiful, we can't argue that point, but she would have been better as an evening anchor because she didn't have the "spark" that was mentioned before.
I think Melissa was a much better choice than Tracy, who to me, appears tired and not very fresh.
I think Tracy's friends are fast and furiously blogging on here. I have no problem with that.
But I personally think Melissa Simas has been doing a great job. I've seen at least an hour of each of the shows this week.

This is an interesting blog I have found!
I am a casual viewer and have seen KARK's new morning show. I like it.
All the people seem pretty good.
I especially like Melissa Simas. She seems to have some spunk and is fun.
She has a nice smile, too. I know that's not important. But I enjoy seeing it. It's nice seeing someone in the early am who is positive, happy and smiling.
I hope they keep doing a good job. And I'll keep watching.
I know neither Tracy nor Melissa, but they are both doing a good job and seem to get along well.
If KARK's morning show is going to be a success they've got to get rid of the desk and buy a sofa or something. Watching 2 people sit at a counter and talk isn't very warm and inviting, like a morning show should be.
I think it's horrible! BORING!! I'd much rather watch Jason Harper and Beth Hunt in the morning any day!!! I'll stick with 7.
If KARK wants their interns to get knocked up they ought to hire Eric Sullivan, just don't send him on any jobs that has to do with high school football cheerleaders. His cell phone would have a few numbers added to them after the trip.

Why do they keep Mike Francis around? He been there for a few years now and clearly hasn't done anything for the ratings. And he's just plain annoying.
Why is it that male anchors in this market are either fat or bald? Rather odd.
Mike used to be a bit goofy, but I can tell now that he has had a few kids he has calmed down a bit. As for ratings, I think Rick Iler was responsible for the lack of ratings, that and countless anchor changes at the desk.
I think he fits in perfectly with the new cast, I truly enjoy watching them all. Matt and Mellisa have seemed to hit it off very nicely!

I noticed this morning that they were sitting at a small table that you would see in a cafe with the look of bookshelves in the background. Personally, I wasn't too crazy about it. Thought it looked stupid actually.

You're so right... furniture can ruin a show! Think of all the shows that might have made it, if only they used fabric-backed chairs instead of leather !!! And let's not even get into couches and love seats on morning television! All I know is that when Melissa Simas smiles.. she could be sitting on a carboard box.. and it's all good !!

Matt I wish you the best with your new anchor job at channel 4.I lived in Hot Springs for a very short time in 2000.I used to watch you on channel 7 news most mornings.I hope everything goes well for you.I hope you keep your ministry going.Your an Inspiration to all news anchors and everybody.

I would like to start off bu saying that I perfer to watch KARK news in the morning over any other TV stations.
I thought KARK was going to have a new format but it seems to follow many old formats which I have been see over the years, on every other station. I was hoping to see something fresh and completely new.
I think the show would be better with Barbara and Tracy as the lead anchors and Matt and Melissa as the supporting staff. They all have good apperarence and great appeal. You have the best air talant I just think you need to pair them up a little different.
KARK without a boubt has the best weather man I'v see anywhere. Trust me, I lived or travled every where.
I hope you will give some thought to my suggestions and I will keep watching reguardess. Keep up the good work.
