KATV Dominates July Book
I can hear the talk now, KTHV and KARK GM's say July ratings book is unimportant BUT the KATV people will disagree as July found it at the top of all time periods. Below are highlights of an article from Arkansas Business.com about the July book:
> KATV saw a wide victory gap at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., but it still has KTHV on its tail at 10 p.m., even though the lead was slightly expanded. Channel 7 also scored well at 6 a.m. by edging out KTHV in its traditional area of timeslot dominance.
KATV pulled a 6 rating and 26 share at 6 a.m., while KTHV was close behind with a 5 rating and 25 share. KARK’s 2 rating and 10 share in the slot will soon be getting some backup as Rogala has made a realignment.
> KATV reasserted its early evening dominance by more than doubling up both KTHV and KARK at both 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Channel 7 pulled down a 13 rating and 31 share at 5 p.m. and a 13 rating and 28 share at 6 p.m. KTHV and KARK hovered near a second-place tie at both time periods with an average of a 6 rating and 13 share.
> KATV and KTHV have duked it out at 10 p.m., with both stations trading leads over the last six books but ultimately standing in a near tie in the coveted news period.
KATV earned a 10 rating and 24 share while KTHV was still close behind with a 9 rating and 21 share. KARK came in third with a 6 rating and 13 share.

Let the flamers begin!
hahahahahahahaha....how bout it KATV haters???:)
Mosler returns to mornings in September, it will be a short time for KATV to be king of the mornings.
Odd. This claims to be a blog about Arkansas TV goings on, and yet I see no mention of the coming changes to KTHV. Way to be on the ball!
What changes? The ones being talked about for the last week on here?
You people just don't get it do you?
As soon it's official I'm sure it will be on here.
You know the people on this blog want to talk about anything other than KATV being number one.
11:12pm (since NOBODY here signs things), this claims to be a blog about Arkansas TV goings on, yet never mentions Jonesboro either.
who cares about jonesboro and their 178 market
Matt Mosler is coming back.....oooooohhhhh...I'm scared.:)
Jonesboro's up to 178 now? Man, that's a long way from 181!
KATV let their main anchors on vacation during the July book, so that tells me that they don't put a lot of stock into it (unless they have good number, then it's the most important book of the year). We can expect changes on 11 and 4 in November and we will see how things change in the ratings game. Just wait until things are official.
Here's what the Ark Times is saying is going on.

Personally, I don't care if Dawn Scott is coming back or about Matt Mosler. Bringing back people who have already had a run in this market is not going to make me change my viewing habits.
It's a good try by both of them to capture a littie former glory and it might work for a little while, but in the long run I don't think it's going to be the big fix they need. Although I do agree that Liz and a couple of other people at THV need to go.
KATV, aside from a couple of weak reporters, still has the best newscast in the market and the best anchors. Bringing in former talent is a band-aid, not a fix.
From everything I hear Liz Massey is nice people...but she is by far the weakest lead anchor in the market in terms of bring in the viewers. She's not in the league with Dawn Scott or even Anne Jansen. Getting Dawn back WILL help them and I bet they do make some gains in the shows she anchors.
Glad she's coming back!!! I hope that doesn't mean she is having problems with Mr. Wonderful, MD?:(
As THV's GM accurately pointed out when Dawn left for Seattle years ago...Dawn had A LOT to do with the rise of THV from the cellar during the late 90s. She IS an anchor that draws viewers, and those are hard to come by. She and Andy made a great team.
One of the reasons the ratings have slipped since...particularly in the early shows.....is that Dawn was not adequately replaced. Liz Massey (nothing personal) is not a good anchor, or at least not one that will bring in the viewers.
If Dawn is back to her old self, I do think she will help THV be more competitive at 5 and 6.
I can't wait to give Dawn a hard time about the streaker.:) You know.....when she goes out on her first live shot...I'd love someone to stage a streaker incident.:)
THV is having a press conferance at 10am Monday to make a big announcement, but we already know what it's all about.
Dawn in...Anne out...Liz to weekends?
Congrats to channel 7, They've got a good thing going over there again. The morning is better than it used to be and their evevning shows are the best in the market right now. Scott and Christina are great and with Ned Perme and Steve Sullivan I think they have the strongest team in town,
Dawn Scott may get some interest but they'll have to do a lot more than a new anchor to make any long term comebacks.
KTHV knows they better do something. The walls have been tumbling down on Izard street for a while now. Their "feel good" approach to news and their "circus" approach to sports has grown old. Liz never materialized. Bringing Dawn back in will help some, but other major changes will need to take place in order to make a big difference. They are now the last place in the market to turn to sports. Razorback Nation and KATV have the Uof A locked down. Ed's a nice guy, but follows Ned and Brett when is comes to a concise weather report.
Some of you people have not been keeping track of the ratings books.
Someone said KATV is king of the mornings. They haven't been that in years.
THV is the king of mornings and certainly can claim to share the lead at ten, so why they're willing to risk everything--except in the early shows--is a head scratcher.
Changes will signal weakness initially and KATV people are experts at capitalizing.
KATV is cerainly not king of the mornings. They had one good book. Also, THV certainly can not claim a tie at 10:00. They had one good book and tied and are now back in second. A close second but still second.
Liz is not the person to take them to the top, I don't think Dawn will be either but in their minds it's worth a shot I guess.
Things like this happen all the time in this industry. it's cutthroat and sometimes downright brutal. ND's and GM's need to think about the bottom line just like any other business.
What about this?

Sounds like the F-ville Bureau is actually going to be a good investment, except, what will they do with it in the off months?
Congrats to Rusty Jackson, he put in his time as a G.A. reporter and is now getting to do what he loves most! Sports with the HOGS!
Changes will signal weakness initially and KATV people are experts at capitalizing.
Certainly took advantage of Dawn's departure. And man when Karen Brady left they really took over as the number one station at 10pm.
Can't wait to see how bad they bury 11 after this opportunity.
