I always like the "searched the nation for the best candidate" type non-sense. It should read "searched the nation for someone overqualified who would work real cheap, but couldn't find anyone worth crap who would take the job for what we would pay, so we'll promote from within which is what we knew we would do the whole time anyway"
I find it interesting that after all their "Fort Smith sucks, Fort Smith sucks" comments, KNWA is now trying to figure out a way to slink back into Fort Smith. I feel sorry for those reporters because they are in for a rude awakening.
I believe those are KFTA reporters not KNWA. I know that KNWA is NWA only but I don't think that's true for the Fox Station. Does anyone know? No matter what the 9pm news looks like it will be better than anything that the old station could have put on the air.
I believe this will be their first on-air reporting jobs for both of the new hires...so, who knows? Maybe they will hit the ground running! All first jobs are stressful in the beginning, so it really might not make that much of a difference being at KFTA in Ft. Smith. I know Dean is a USC grad and Marsh is top-notch with a Master's degree.
Is it better to get a job where you can (and have to) do daily broadcast performance than to do p.a. in a major market? Talent with a bunch of on-air hours combined with ambition wins. Evidence of willingness to sacrifice/postpone gratification to build a career is a plus when you're ready to move.
I bet these gals will not be long in Fort Smith if they are any good. A year tops and then off to a larger market back in NWA or Little Rock or Tulsa or Dallas etc. Tough life being on the move so much but worth it if you can give up the other things for a while.
Dallas...are you serious, a market on the verge of top 10, after spending "a year tops" in Fort Smith? Ok, I understand LR, but you guys sometimes act like NWA is a step up from Ft. Smith, when it is the SAME market!
KFSM does send some of its people to Oklahoma City after 3 or 4 years and I think some folks out of 40/29 have made nice jumps. Dallas is a little unbelievable, though.
NWA is in the same market so that wouldn't be a jump, just a move.
Yes, it may be Fox in NWA/FS, but it is still a cool thing when a station adds employees. They could be cutting back and firing people. Props to KNWA/KFTA for supporting our careers.

I predict a 1 rating, if they are lucky.
Yeah, they'll do really well against CSI and Grey's Anatomy. Woo hoo.
Where in Ft. Smith are they going to work? I heard that John Griffin still owns the Ft. Smith building. Is this correct?
Yeah, good put-downs y'all!...that'll show 'em.

My condolences to the new hires - way to flush your careers down the toilet . . . . .
Congratulations Mary!!!!!

Actually, no it won't.
The demographic that the local stations are aiming for are either in bed by 9 or at Western Sizzlin'.
The primary goal is to attract more viewers away from either A) sleep or B) the salad & bread bar.
Good luck!
The other reporter is Jessica Dean
KNWA / KFTA announced today they will be hiring Pee Wee Herman.
Word is that Nexstar and Russell have him earmarked for upper management.
I feel sorry for those getting these jobs. They'd have a much better future at a station with an actual future...

Good Luck to both!
I wonder how they will look on air. Anyone know what these people look like?
I think one of them is kind of short so don't know how they will look on air.
Congrats Jessica. You and Mary will do a great job!
Think I saw one of them dancing at for the Barrio Band one night. Really sexy little thing. Hope it shows up on the camera.
Any word on who is going to do weather? Is it going to be KNWA's chief met or someone else?
Any pictures of her?
Check the networking sites. Bet one of them has a myspace
Think this might be one of them.

That is Mary Marsh

I hope they purchase some really short tripods for Mary:)
That is harsh! But I would like to see her interview a NBA player. You do have to admit she is cute. Can't be over 5 foot tall.
I am sad that Mary made her myspace private...can I be your friend?
haha...the stalking begins.
It's all about talent. A Jackson Mississippi meteorologist went from Market #89 to Market #1

Ok, someone's got to quit posting this poor girls personal stuff!
True enough is enough
One of these two just left their job at KFTA
