KNWA Promotes Reporter to Anchor

Source: KNWA Press Release KNWA-TV today announced the promotion of Ginny Barksdale from General Assignment Reporter to Anchor of ‘KNWA Today’ – the station’s morning newscast. She replaces Dana Sargent, who is moving to anchor KFTA-TV’s Fox 24 News at 9:00pm. The announcement was made by Blake Russell, Vice President and General Manager of the television station.

“We did a nation-wide search for someone to replace Dana,” said Mr. Russell. “but after going through application after application, the perfect person to do the job was already here at the station.”

"This is a terrific opportunity for me to move so quickly from reporting to anchoring," said Mrs. Barksdale. "I’m honored that my managers believed in me enough that they offered me the position and that I get this chance to represent KNWA."

Mrs. Barksdale started at KNWA in March. She’s a native of Hamburg, AR and has a degree is Broadcast Journalism from the University of Arkansas. She worked at KATV and Fox 16 in Little Rock before moving to Northwest Arkansas and KNWA. She’s married to Alan Barksdale, an investment banker based in Little Rock. Razorback Fans will also be happy to know her uncle, Louis Campbell is a football coach at the U of A and she has two cousins who are former players.

Yep, this is officially the KNWA blog.

Sadly, more people pay attention to them here than actually watch them over the air!

whoops...I posted my sarcasm on the wrong topic. This is what I meant to say on this thread:

I always like the "searched the nation for the best candidate" type non-sense. It should read "searched the nation for someone overqualified who would work real cheap, but couldn't find anyone worth crap who would take the job for what we would pay, so we'll promote from within which is what we knew we would do the whole time anyway"

What happens to Dana when FOX flops? Bad news for Neile.

I have no idea what any of you people are talking about. What is this northwest Arkansas you speak of?

KNWA only gets back what they dish out. I love the fact that their sales people have a sheet that shows they are number one. Unfortunately, Nielsen doesn't agree.

I believe that they were #1 in Nov in NWA at 10p. I truly believe it's a dead heat between all three stations in NWA. I guess the KFSM folks want to keep saying that KNWA is #3 in total market but it's obvious that KNWA is only intrested in counting the northern counties. That is their market. I believe that is very similar to how the newspaper folks make their market....they make it up.

She has one leg up on Dana with the college degree.

NWA isn't a market, the River Valley AND NWA is a market. As long as KNWA thinks they can cover just NWA and make it, they'll always be #3. And even if NWA was it's own market, if the other station switched their coverage to just NWA, KNWA would get swept away easily. They're just plain awful...

I guess we'll never know because KFSM is a slave the River Valley and KHBS wants to concentrate on NWA but can't. They bug me the worse because they are just ridding the fence. "Your Hometown News", yea right. In this case you make one side or the other mad. That puts them in the worse position.

The girl is an air head. Nice nationwide search.

Umm, just to be clear, KFSM beats KNWA in NWA at 5 and 6 p.m. It isn't even close.

When you add in the River Valley, 5 dominates the market.

At 10 p.m., 40/29 is number one in NWA, although all three stations are within a point of each other. Add in the River Valley and, once again, 5 dominates the market.

I find it hard to believe she's the best they could find in a nationwide search. Does anyone notice how many times she says "Well" before starting every, single story? It's very annoying. I'll be switching morning stations.

I think she's very good and shows great potential. Not to mention, she's smokin' hot! You'll do fine Ginny. Enjoy watching you.

Just to be clear.... I would call a 4.4 to a 5.2 pretty close in May and KNWA's 5.5 to KFSM's 4.6 a win. Of course KHBS kicked both their butts!!!!

KFSM Dominates in Scott and Johnson County.

Your numbers and Nielsen's numbers aren't the same. Good try though.

You can't see KHBS in Washington and Benton Counties. They are in the River Valley only.

At 9:08 AM, August 15, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well aren't you too smart. Those numbers are for NWA only. I'm also sorry that I said KHBS and not KHOG. If you folks were as accurate with your product as you were with this blog the viewers would appreciate the effort.

So, what you are saying is that you posted inaccurate information?

I have personally had classes with Ginny in college and anchored with her during the newscast at U of A, and she is extremely professional, very literate, very news savy, and I think she will be an asset to KNWA. I always knew she had great potential and she will go very far in the anchoring chair.

I had classes with her too. Calling her a diamond in the rough would be too generous... she's unpolishable. She's the epitome of the ultra conservative people she looks up to... uninformed and unaware.

I'd like to know how many news reporters move into an anchor position after only 3 or 4 months of on-camera experience? Sometimes that's all it takes when a talent like Ginny Barksdale gets an opportunity. Her talent has just begun to emerge and NWAR has a front row seat for its debut. When Ginny's tenure with KNWA Today is over, I have no doubt we'll have seen one of the most talented and well loved morning anchors to pass through our corner of the nation.

Ginny really needs to quit posting on here.

She's real sweet, and I always felt she had great intelligence as well. I just wish for her sake she wasn't mixed up with the Nexstar crowd.

Hopefully she will flourish despite the best efforts of the Nexstar stooges to squander promising talent.

So they've got number staying they're #1. Of course they do. KNWA is a Nexstar station, and they don't subscribe to the Nielson Ratings. So they can say pretty much whatever they want. They can't show any numbers to back up their claims anyway.

Has anyone noticed the huge amount of "Live" reports KNWA has been putting into their nightly newscasts? These look-lives are great to fool people, but c'mon, what happened to good ole' raw live reports anymore?

Ginny has the most annoying laugh. She has potential, but it will take a lot of work to develop it. She was not ready for this job.

At 9:07 PM, December 09, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think it is funny how so many people on here talk as if they actually know what is going on at KNWA. Only NWA news blogs would allow complete retards to post comments about things they know nothing about!!

Is KNWA's Dana Sargent married?
