Former KATV'er Getting the Axe in Boston

According to Newsblues, former KATV anchor Chris May is getting the axe at WHDH in Boston, Mass. Newsblues says May's contract is up in three months.

Maybe a Little Rock station could woo May back!

I hope this is wrong.

Chris is a class act. Both he and his wife Lea have family in central Arkansas and are missed by many so it would be great to see him return, but it might be tough to replace that Boston paycheck in Little Rock.

The biz is what it is. Chris will do fine.

I am a HUGE fan and friend to Chris May. I would LOVE for him to come back to LR.

I agree with the previous post he won't have a hard time finding a job.

There has not been a male anchor in the market like Chris since he left!

Are you retarded? That doesn't even make sense. LOSER!

While residing in NW Arkansas now, I was in central Arkansas while Chris was at KATV, and I agree with most everyone that Chris is a class act and cash in the bank. He's a great anchor, and it would be great to see him return to Arkansas. As the first poster mentioned, it would be hard to replace that Boston paycheck in Arkansas. Chris will find something, no doubt about it.

I'm doing a lot of agreeing today - that first poster stole all of my thunder about Chris! :)

Let's remember the cost of living here in Arkansas is so cheap compared to the east coast that hsi pay would be majorly inflated. With his experience, he could make great money here. It's all relative....

I agree with the previous poster. It is A LOT less expensive to live in LR than in Boston.

Both Chris and Lea's family are here and now that they have a child I bet they would LOVE to move back.

I have known Chris since HS and would LOVE for him to come back. I actually saw him here about 3 or 4 weeks ago!

A station here needs to reach into their pockets and bring him back!

Hmmmmm. If only there were a male anchor in this market who had overreached his usefulness and whose on-air likeability had passed long ago. If only we could somehow think of a BLOND male anchor who left for a while only to come back home. If only.

That's not nice to say about BJ

Andy is back partly because he was disgraced. I am happy for him that he is settled again, but rumor had it things didn't go well in Pittsburgh.

I was going through the KATV Video vault and remembering the days Andy was about 80 pounds lighter than he is today. He needs to do something about that!

Wow, I've known Andy for almost 20 years and I've never heard that he'd been "disgraced."

Are you listening to rumors that are eight years old--or is that your age?

Let's start a thread putting another anchor through the ringer. I know one thing this website is teaching me. I never, ever want to work in this city with the worms and slugs that these blogs show LR TV past and present is infested with.

There are some awful small private parts on this blog.

Getting back on topic...

Any chance KARK would shell out the cash to get Chris over there to help get them better numbers? I'd love to see Chris at KARK since KATV and KTHV both already have strong male anchors.

KARK would have to pony up for Chris to come back to that crap station...seriously!

Chris May is good, but he's not all that. Huge ego and a lot of hype.

KATV needs to stick with Scott he's the best anchor they have had in a long time. If they are not careful a larger market will grab him just like they did Karen!

"Chris May is good, but he's not all that. Huge ego and a lot of hype."

That is complete BS! Obviously somebody is a little envious!!

Envious - NOT!!!

If Chris is SOOOOO good then why is being let go? and why has he not been given an anchor spot - like Karen?

Because he is not that good!!!

He is from LR, so the LR folks think he is all that. When he makes it in the anchor chair in a larger market, then I will buy all the butt kissing.

We wanna see BOOBIES on tv... not some durn guy. Sheesh !!!

Last time I checked... Chris May's Boston market is bigger than Karen Fuller's Kansas City market.

But Chris May couldn't hack it in the Boston market. He was fired, remember? You can try all you want, but success is what counts.

Give Chris a shot at KARK if he is interested....why not? He could only help! Personally, I think Bob Clausen holds his own. But....the numbers tell the story!

That's baloney. Chris has been in Boston since 1998. If he "couldn't hack it" he wouldn't have been there that long. Good people get fired for no reason in this business all the time.

He was a reporter!!!!

Karen Fuller IS an Anchor!!! With huge numbers - which took a nothing station way up in the ratings with arrival - she is very popular and VERY good and she has the numbers to prove it. We will see her nationally one day.

Big difference in a reporter and an anchor - BTW!!!

I'm thinking that Chris doesn't need Arkansas to fall back on. I'm sure he or an agent have been laying the ground work for something else. I agree he is one of the best in this industry, but give the guy some credit! he's no newbie to the biz, he probably had some indication this was going to happen and started the ball rolling on other prospects. geesh. there is life after Arkansas Y'all!!

This is from the WHDH web site...

Chris May is an anchor of 7NEWS early evening newscasts (M-F; 4PM, 4:30PM and 5PM) with co-anchor Frances Rivera. He also reports for 7NEWS Night Team.

The rest of the bio is here:

Just imagine if Chris May did come back to KATV and he anchored the news with Beth Hunt. Now that would be cool!!

Personally, I agree Bob Clausen holds his own, as an anchor and as a reporter. It would be nice to have Chris back in the market, but he has probably outgrown Little Rock, except home visits.

Re: The numbers tell the story!
Until Little Rock becomes a metered market....is this really true. The numbers often seemed skewed....especially when you look at the product each station is putting out.

He will not go far in that industry being arrogant...
Maybe now he'll realize that and turn himself around.

I know from experience that Chris May is a prick. His ego has seriously increased since his move to Boston. He could never move back to Little Rock and take a local station job, because he couldn't afford to keep his high maintenance wife around.
