Former KARK'er Looking for Her Next Gig

From www.michelle-leigh.com: "While WFLD-Channel 32 continues to audition new weather forecasters to replace her, Michelle Leigh is busy working out the remainder of her contract on "Fox News in the Morning."

"I want to thank you, my viewers, and the Fox family for a fantastic five-year run here in Chicago," Leigh wrote to fans Tuesday.

"I plan to be on the air until sometime in June. I sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support, and no matter where I go, I will always think of Chicago as my home. The letters posted by my viewers [at
www.savemichelleleigh.com] have touched me deeply. I will keep you informed via my Web site: www.michelle-leigh.com."

she was let go in Detroit (i think it was detriot) because of a racial comment.... she was let go at KARK because she simply didn't know what she was doing when it came to predicting weather.... why is she being let go now?

I found the following on www.tv.com

----------

Ding dong, the weather bimbo is dead!

If you have no idea of what I'm talking about (or perhaps offended by my use of the word "bimbo"), then you're probably not familiar with the walking atrocity of Chicago broadcasting that is WFLD-TV's Michelle Leigh. According to today's Sun-Times, Leigh was released from her contract after five agonizing years of banal, superficial TelePrompTer reading. In a city that houses one of the country's best meteorologists (Tom Skilling) as well as several other weathermen of note (Jerry Taft, Steve Baskerville) Leigh was a horrible abnormality. From her awkwardly flirty demeanor to the noticeable lack of knowledge and credibility that spewed out whenever her mouth opened, Leigh was a laughingstock for almost the entire duration of her stint at Chicago's Fox affiliate. Though I can't say that I've been entirely happy with some of their past moves (including the dismissal of Walter Jacobson and Bruce Wolf), I'm glad to see the new bosses at WFLD have finally taken their village idiot to pasture.

Sounds like she didn't change much from when she was at channel 4. To be honest.. I didn't remember her until I saw the video on your website. She was part of the old crappy channel 4. KARK had a period of having some real bad talent for weather. Perella Lewis, Mark Dick son, etc. They've finally got good talent now.

I think Northwest Arkansas has some weather postions open. She would be great for that market.

The term Weather Bimbo is sexist and demeaning. I always preferred the term Weather Bunny when thinking of Michelle.

And you know, I really liked her act.

When she opened her mouth, you never knew what she was going to say. She might talk about the Win-chin-chilla or issue a snuggle alert. Her brain/mouth connection had absolutely no inhibitor function. Her off the cuff explanation of El Nino one evening was one of the funniest things I ever heard.

Lets face it, local news is as much a circus as it is anything, and Michelle was a sexy clown who could read the weather service bulletins as well as any of them.

When she left, KATV's weather cast may have become more "professional" but it also became much duller.

Michelle,
Nice to see you still keep up with what's going on in Arkansas.

Thanks for your post.

First, she worked for KARK, not KGOP.

Second, Michelle does need to work on the filters, but she also got a bump rap in LR and I emailed her when she left to tell her so.

Believe me, they don't keep you for five years in a city like Chicago because you have nice teeth.

And no one in Chicago compares to Tom Skilling, so that's not really a fair statement. She still beat WGN head to head on the weekends.

She's going to do fine, and all of us in dinky ol' Little Rock will be here when she lands her next top five position.

Good luck Michelle. Take comfort in knowing it's a crappy business.

Since we are on the topic of female weather talent.

What happened to Perella Lewis?

Did she get married?

Does anyone remember Mary Brown a KARK weather anchor in the late early 90's. What happened to her?

I remember Mary, but don't know what happened to her. I liked her, though.

As for the funky Ms. Parella this is from wthr.com:

Parella Lewis
SkyTrak Weather

Parella Lewis joined the SkyTrak weather team in January, 2004, and can be seen anchoring "Weekend Sunrise" Saturday and Sunday mornings on Channel 13. She came to Indianapolis from the NBC affiliate in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she spent two and a half years as a meteorologist.

Michelle was extremely predicatable when whe was at KARK. Everyday hear weather report sounded exaclty like the one the day before. Temperatures will be "moderating"....

Mary Brown went on to The Weather Channel. Left there and went to a local station. She later committed suicide. However, I don't have any further details.

From the number 3 market to the low 100's??? Not a chance...and that's silly to even consider.

Ha.....Little Rock would be a stretch...much less NWA. I wonder if she insists on being a weathercaster, which is where she is criticized the most? She's great with features/entertainment segments!

I'm with the poster who basically thinks looks matter...and Michelle has those! She is just sexy and that's all there is to it!

Tom Skilling was mentioned earlier. I had the privelige one day several years ago to spend a few hours with him at WGN. I can tell you he is a terrific, classy, non-egotistical guy. Reminded me of Paul Eells. I know most who read this blog will never have the chance to be around him in person....just know he is a very bright spot in a sometimes dark business.

I used to intern at WGN back in college. I met Tom Skilling at the Chicago Emmy Awards. I was fotunate enough to be awarded his scholarship. He was all class. He was very excited and super nice. Now his brother Jeff Skilling...not sure about Mr. Enron. Talk about two opposites in a family

I wonder if Tom Skilling ever had ERON stock? Does he keep with with brother Jefery's trail?

I read an article regarding Tom and his family. He supports his brother publicly, however, I wonder if he really believes he's innocent.

There was a story a few years back about Michelle's use of the phrase "can't rape the willing" on air in another market. Anyone remember the details?

I think Tom is super! I did get to meet him in Chicago when I attended the Bozo Show years ago. He was very friendly and seemed void of any ego. I can say the same about Steve Sanders and Allison Payne. I guess when you get to that level you are secure enough that you don't have to turn your nose up to people. Tom actually bought my lunch in the commisary now that I think about it! haha Can anyone else say Tom Skilling took you to lunch?:)

I want my kid to intern either at WGN with Tom Skilling or WFAA with Troy Dungan. Of all the TV stations I have visited and spent time in their news departments, those two stations stand out above the rest. Those stations and Chief Wets provide a professional and nurturing environment for an intern. Close behind would be KOTV (Tulsa) and WKYT (Lexington). I wish the newsrooms in Arkansas weren't so full of egos and unprofessionalism.

I want to know how many of you Michelle Leigh bashers have perfect sparkling squeaky clean records yourselves. She is, like the rest of us here are, a human being and has made mistakes just like the rest of us do all the time. I'll also say this, to go from Little Rock to the #3 market in the country, especially after the B.S. she took while she was here, and stay there for 5 years, deserves a hell of a lot of credit! Let's see you idiots do that. I say Give 'em hell, Michelle!

Near the end of a newscast,WDIV ran a preview for a report about "most eligible bachelors." In the preview, a Black woman said she preferred "chocolate-skinned men."

That was followed by a report on a birthday party for a 415 pound gorilla at the zoo. Then, Leigh turned to anchors Emery King and Asha Blake and asked: "Does that qualify as chocolate-skinned?"

King who is Black and Blake, whose family is from India, looked at Leigh in silence for a few seconds, then signed off.
