KNWA Looking for Yet Another News Director
This from the tip box: "KNWA (Nexstar) in Fayetteville is advertising for a news director again. Alan Little, who just arrived in the fall (October I believe) is already moving on. The word on the street is Tampa is the destination, but don't know details."

Why would you work for Deathstar? Daune Lammers is a piece of CRAP!!!!! I bet the new person will not ask about the book or AP during the interview. Is this not the third ND in the last year?
Crap breeds Crap and Nexstar is CRAP!
WoW... this story is old!
I agree with the above poster. Let's move on.
Alan Little announced he was leaving last Friday February 10th. Not real old I guess.
Does anybody heard any rumors regarding who will replace him?
I heard it will be Satan
In referebnce to the "Crap Breeds Crap" post, what about the AP at KNWA? Just curious. How does KNWA stack up in the ratings wars?
KNWA doesn't subscribe to Nielsen. It is basically a two-station race, though, between 40/29 and 5.
ha...that isn't true anymore.
Yeah, its true. 5 and 40/29 fought it out in NWA in November. The widest margin between the 2 stations was 2 points in one time period. Otherwise, they were within one point of each other all day long, with the lead changing depending on the show.
When you compute in 5's strength down south, though, they dominate the market and win every time period.
KNWA doesn't buy the ratings for good reason. They aren't in the race.
What is the GM like at KNWA? Any word on Nexstar closing the news department?
maybe a decent news director would have made the snow storm a bit more important...why was no one live
Umm -- didn't KNWA have live stuff from like 10 reporters this morning???
From what I saw, KNWA had a tower cam in Rogers, a Live reporter in Springdale, a tower cam on the Fayetteville square, Live reporters in Fort Smith, Conway, Little Rock and Hot Springs as well as a meteorologist and anchor at the studio. Did anyone else cover the whole story of this winter event like KNWA?
KHBS did several live weather cut-ins with two reporters.
Channel 5 is the only station with a weekend news show, so it's natural to expect more than cut ins for them.
From what I've heard from people in the business, KNWA is very much in the race in Northwest Arkansas. Why doesn't someone post the NWA #'s on here?
you've heard wrong, plain and simple.
MAYBE A NEW NEWS DIRECTOR WILL SEE THE IMPORTANCE OF TOUCHING THE SNOW-- You have to bend down and touch the snow if you want to be a good weather reporter-- i am so ashamed with all the wx reports this weekend i didn't see one reporter get down-- and get their hands in that deep--thick--wet-- white stuff-- COME ON
Can't post the #'s You guys at KNWA don't get Nielsen so I'm not about to divulge free data for you. But know this... As far as Northwest Arkansas is concerned. KNWA is winning the demos in certain newscasts, then KFSM, and KHOG is last.
KNWA is not #1 overall, just in the demos during certain newscast.
List the newscasts then.......
That's a pretty far out there claim based on the numbers I've seen. They lost ground in most areas.
Apparently you all are seeing different numbers.
the fact that ALL their reporters are new...and they lost those that cared about news and were known in hte public probably doesn't help...as far as I'm concerned 40/29 leads the way
Any speculation as to who the new News Director will be??
gavin parker and that old guy on KNWA aren't new.
Grandpa Dunkin.....
KNWA lost ground everywhere except Benton and Washington Co. They're a distant 3rd everywhere except for the demos in those 2 counties.
KNWA may be gaining some ground, I'll give them that; however, they have the weakest weather dept. out of the three, and that can kill momentum. This is a weather driven market, and you can lose out with weak weather personnel. Rick Katsfey won't do it.
Once again... any speculation as to who the new News Director will be at KNWA?
KNWA lost ground everywhere except Benton and Washington Co.
Well, isn't that what they WANT!? They are leading the way in Benton/Washington counties, that's their GOAL as Northwest Arkansas News....
KNWA would have a good thing going if they get the right news director.
KFSM and 40/29's "river valley" stories get more and more lame every day. Unless there's a murder or grass fire, Fort Smith has nothing.
As Northwest Arkansas grows, KNWA will rise to the top!
40- Best news, decent weather, worst sports
5- Old school everything (nursing home viewers)
KNWA- Inconsistant news, decent weather, good sports
40/29 = Awful sweeps pieces,"Catching germs from a water bottle & How to find your lost pet tonight at 10" PM news is a rehash of the AM paper + local car wrecks. Decent weather, although overhyped.
5NEWS = No sweep pieces, all breaking news. More investigative type crap like that teacher sex story and Moffett/FBI story. Decent weather with more likeable talent although oversealed with Flick 2 and Lewis with NWA and AMS. The Flick thing confuses me.
KNWA = Too much River Valley news for a NWA station. The best look and graphics in the market. News needs better graphics and writing. Most friendly chief met (Katzfey) he's a little weird on live shots.
Little Rock: Let's hear your summary of local news stations!
Opinions of the best news anchor in northwest AR?
It is NOT Neile Jones.
Don Elkins or Tim Malone. Cannon's not what he used to be.
Ashley Beck would top my list of anchors (even if she is on weekends). Leslee Wright isn't bad looking either, if you like bleach-blondes. Donna Bragg is also attractive for an older woman. Anyone miss Beth Burnett? I don't think she ever anchored but she was a definite hottie at KHOG. And Gloria Margarita was decent looking... if you've had a few margaritas!!
"Cannon's not what he used to be"
No matter what you think of craig cannon you have to repect his position. He is the authority on river valley and nwa news with 20 YEARS of experience in arkansas. Come on guys...do you want some new guy who doesn't know anything about the area. Personally I like having someone who's lived here and knows the history of where the news is covered.
Ashley Beck? Are you KIDDING me? Its like having a dumb cheerleader in your room at 5:30 am on a Saturday morning. Her voice is annoying -- SHE is annoying. And could she paint that face on any thicker?
The way I see it, it's like waking up next to her every Saturday morning... :)
I'd rather wake up to a dumb cheerleader than a drug addict.
I would rather wake up to Bobbie Miller
No offense to Craig, but at least Malone gets out and covers a story now and then.
Honestly, any anchor in the market could take it if he/she would actually prove their ability to report now and then.
Last I checked, Craig did a story last week.
The mom on meth story...if I remember right. I enjoyed hearing that some people are able to get out of their trouble!
No offense to Craig, but at least Malone gets out and covers a story now and then.
I didn't think that cooking BBQ with Garrett Lewis counted as getting out and covering a story....
I'd count the home opener for an undefeated Razorbacks team as a good public appearance.
In the last six months, Malone has also done some good breaking news lives and a solid series.
We tank the abover poster for being a KFSM homer......your New York Times check is in th email
We tank you twof 4 going abover and beyond.
I wish this blog had spell check...
Back to the original post, KNWA hired a guy. I can't remember his name but someone who works there said they filled the position.
what happened to Rhonda Justice?
What happened to Tim Malone? Did he vanish into thin air?
Wow, there is a great deal of useful data above!
This can't actually work, I suppose like this.
