KARK Gets New Graphics and Intros

A tipster says KARK debuted new graphics and new intros today. I will have to check them out myself tonight at 10pm. ALSO KARK.com has a new look also. I also have noticed that KARK's sister station, KTAL in Shreveport has slightly different openings and intros, graphics and music.

I noticed this last night. Probally trying to captialize on the Olympic coattails. Isn't also a considence that the graphic look *exactly* like those from the KNWA produced Razroback Nation.
Also as of Monday, according to a AVS Forum poster, KARK is broadcasting in HD. Bad news is that the high power transmitter is still being installed so only those near Little Rock can get KARK-HD OTA. Too bad I'll miss the Olympics and the Daytona 500 in HD :(

I saw them last night after the Olympics. Looked really sharp. They were due for an update. Music is better too. KARK continues to show signs of improvement.

I'll admit I was a KARK basher in the past but that was because they needed bashing cause they were bad. They are now actually looking pretty good and i'm one to cheer for a underdog. They seem to be on a roll and it could be the result of getting the right people in the right places over there.Fresh people means frseh ideas.

Wow, New grx. That should put 'em over the top.

I would like the new graphics if they were not so "grainy". I hope they will work that problem out as well as the new graphic colors do not look good on the T V's on the news and weather sets. The colors of the graphics however do not go with the theme of the news or weather set.

They're using the music package, "U-Phonix" from Stephen Arnold, that KNWA is using. I guess Nexstar's attempt at making their stations identical, kinda like what Hearst-Argyle does.

The graphics look amazing. The best looking newscast in Arkansas, hands down.

The music is different from KNWA's, listen to them. They must be using different cuts or extended the library.

I agree the graphics don't match the set, but maybe there are more changes to come...I have to believe a big station like KARK is not mis-matching on purpose..I assume there's more exciting changes in the near future.

KARK, keep up the good work...it will pay off...I, a former viewer, am noticing the positive changes and seriously considering turning back to 4 permanately

what's up with having a blue set but having the orange-red lights on the set....??? they don't match at all. The graphics look good, though.

I'm sure like any changes in graphics, it's a work in progress. Still, they're off to a great start. I think the hard work and new people over the past few years or so is bringing Channel 4 back. It's a completely new group of people running the show now. Unlike the past, good folks with Arkansas ties.

I agree...it seems like the employees at KARK really DO care about their work..from sales working around the clock, to reporters & anchors going non-stop...you can feel that they really care about their job...that's hard to find in TV these days...sometimes its about looks, money instead of relating tot he community...KARK is stepping up and reminding viewers they do care and want to tell stories to the best of their ability.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and you'll start seeing local people doing the 4-1 more so than ever!

I actually was reminiscing about the old 4-1 last night. The new graphics bring back memories of the good - old professional channel 4 that set the standard in little rock tv news for decades.

So, what other changes are on the way at Channel 4? Surely they aren't going to leave the set blue/red?

The graphics as a whole are good, but the weather forecast graphics could use improving...in that case, the old was much more crisp looking. They look thrown together on the weather side.

I don't know if they're the same GFX package (exactly), but the "YOUR WEATHER AUTHORITY" tagline (complete with the little lightning bolt -- even in the same font) is taken from WVUE in NOLA.

I think the graphics look good, but they have GOT to get rid of that KARK4/KARK.com animation -- or at least slow it down so that it doesn't change every 5 seconds. At least they aren't using garishly ugly fonts (KTHV) and actually have a consistent, clean looking graphics style (unlike KATV). I think Fox 16's GFX still beat 'em, but it's close.

Are they still without AP and Neilsen? If so, why on earth throw money into new graphics and branding when you don't have the basic things a TV station uses every day?

I am not a big fan of the colors they picked for the graphics. It is good to see them trying to change, though.

On a side note, their copyright notice at the end of the 5:00 news said MMV instead of MMVI.

Has anyone seen the new channel called THV2 yet?

KARK might be improving their look, but what is going on with their talent? Katie looked very drab last night, the shirt she had on looked like a straight-jacket. In fact, she usually looks drab. Why is that? Wouldn't you aspire to be an anchor? You don't see Jancey going around with her hair pulled back and no earrings. Just an observation.

Really glad to see KARK has joined 21st century and finally offering HD (at least network pass-through HD). Definite improvement. Now, I can, and will, watch them again. The Olympics opening ceremony was beautiful in HD. Graphics are a tad over the top, especially when contrasted with the odd looking News/Weather set.

The new THV2 Rocks. I love the fact that it's always online. A big help to them also would be to drop Positively Arkansas and go back to Arkansas Today.

On topic though, KARK will have to replace the desk and most of their talent to be taken seriously.

Can the Olympics suck any harder?

The set colors will change. The promos and graphics are the second step in a gradual change.

Everything is in an upward swing, whether it be from the partnership with fearlessfriday.com or the coming of streaming video to the website in the near future.

But don't worry about the clashing colors, like I said, that'll be fixed soon enough.

Also, there will be some great web-exclusive content available in the future.

Good move on 4's part - Blue (the dominant color on their set was COLD). It's still 10x better than 7's color dilema.

I emailed KARK about their new graphics, and this was the reply I received:

Your suggestion about the kark.com / 4 animation is clearly noted, and we believe it is also distracting. Right now, we are currently building a new logo that will sit in the bottom right hand corner that will not be moving. We will continue to develop a bug that has motion to it, but we will make one that is less distracting and that has less motion.

We are currently building a new weather center, an additional set for reporter stand ups, and enhancing our current news set. After March 1st, you will see the new set. I hope you drop us an email to let us know what you think about the new sets.

I love how all these KARK staffers are bombarding this topic. Go ahead and toot your horns, you really aren't that good.

I am not a KARK staffer!! Nor have I been a fan of theirs in recent years. However, they appear to be taking big steps in changing and producing a product worth watching. That is more than I notice from the station that claims it is the most watched
(make a change so you stand out, to keep us watching)and well all I can say for the other station be thankful for your morning crew, Anne Jansen, Ms. A. Courtney (she needs more air time).

Jancey is enough to make me watch KARK.

it takes a lot more to be #1 in the little rock market than just saying you're improving. KARK is basically competing with fox at this point. No graphics or new set colors will make those numbers move upwards. spend more of your time improving the product and marketing plan, then start the bragging. It seems a little premature at this point. Also, how would KARK know if it improves? call someone at the other stations who gets the ratings? Anyway, Jancey will only be here a couple of years and clausen will have a new co---oh no.

Nexstar won't sustain those new positions you refer to for long...turnover keeps them in their payroll objective...keep-er-churnin' and do it all for less.

Channel 4's post olympic/potential ice storm coverage is impressive tonight (friday). They have got their reporters dispatched in various places. Who knows if it will actually freeze? It looks like someone is orchestrating/making good decisions on the news side. The creative side seems to be working in sinc with the news side, too? Are my observations correct?
