More Changes on the Way at the KTAL Anchor Desk?

This from the tip box: "KTAL general manager, Scott Thomas, is about to be even further up a creek without a paddle due to another Denver defection. After last week's departure of Lane Stone, the station's popular home-grown main anchor for nearly five years, there is word that her co-anchor, the young, talented Shawn Patrick, is leaving as well. Word is he's taking a weekend am anchor/reporter gig at Denver powerhouse KUSA. As your blog correctly noted, Stone is also heading to Denver with her fiancee, Eli Stokols, who left Shreveport's KSLA for Denver's KWGN in September.

Incidentally, Stone's job was offered to Heidi York, a morning anchor in Wilmington, NC (market 140) after KTAL's own morning anchor, Shannon Slatton, wisely refused to sign a five-year contract."

Five years at KATL? There isn't enough money for that.

ktal has gotten better in the last few years but it def. still needs a lot of help. The weather guys are terrible!! Maybe a new face in Hedi will be good for channel 6. Why cant channel 6 and ksla learn from ktbs's example! Hire quality people for quality news.

KTBS Could switch talent with KTAL and ratings would go up at KTBS. KTBS is just another station that has been around long enough that old people watch. you really think Todd Warren is worse than "Stickman?" Oh, you didn't know that EVERYONE thinks the Chief @ 3 is a robot model called "Icabod Crane". Pease, wake up early one morning and you tell me which show is better? (talentwise) You've got the worst show ever at 12. then you've got the "birdcage" ED at 3. Or, you can watch Shannon Slatton, and what seems to be a knowledgeable young weather guy at 6.
I watch, and think that 6 is going places.....

Just FYI, I believe Eli and Lane are married now. Heidi is a good anchor and has had no problem working her way up the food chain (please god, don't let her have been stupid enough to get stuck in a 5 year contract!).

KTAL was making great strides with Shawn Patrick, Lane Stone, Justin Herndon and Rich DeMuro. Now, they are all gone. But when newscasters are young and good, they move on to bigger and better stations. Todd Warren is, without a doubt, the best TV weatherman. But I fear the progress KTAL made in the market will not wane.

replacing two quality anchors at 5, 6 and 10 will not make it easy for ktal to continue the measured progress it's made in the past few years. but, in some ways, the talent isn't really the issue. for example, it's true that shannon slatton's am newscast is more watchable than ed walsh on 3 or the new chick on 12. and it's true that todd warren is the best meteorologist in the market (not hard when your compared to the robotic joe haynes and patrick dennis and his doggy). but, ktal is trying to overcome history--50 years of being seen as a texarkana station and a distant number three--and that's tough to do on a nexstar budget. no matter how awful certain shows get at 3 or 12, viewers will remain loyal.

KTAL has started getting better lately. I personaly dont have a problem with Ed Walsh and enjoy him quite a bit.

I watched that new girl Najahe Hall on News 12 today on the morning and noon show. She's good..very good. Her and Ron Young really seem to have some good chemistry in the mornings. I hate to admit it..but I think we will see a comeback on news 12's morning show..I hate to admit it..but KTBS my have some serious competition.

Lets not forget KTAL also lost reporter Rene Marsh. So thats four people and counting. Makes you wonder if things are hellish behind the scenes.

Oh yes,
I remember Rene Marsh. She was hot! Where is she now? Anyone know? She did a great job reporting at KTAL.

Good think Shannon Slatton didn't sign a five-year contract. She is WAY too good to stay there. I think she could go to a top 75 market, and soon.
