KSLA TV Vice President and General Manager Running for Mayor of Shreveport?

KTAL, Channel 6 just ran a story on possible candidates for Shreveport mayor. Among the mentions, Ed Bradley, KSLA TV Vice President and General Manager. KTAL reported Bradley already had campaign office space rented.

1/18 Additional: This from an article in The Shreveport Times in August 2005:

"Ed Bradley, vice president and general manager of KSLA-TV12: "I'll make a decision in the early part of next year," said Bradley, who added, "I'll be out of here" in reference to his future with the local television affiliate if he chooses to run. Already, a group of business leaders and community activists that calls itself Friends of Ed Bradley has established a Web site -- www.change06.org -- that touts Bradley's pending candidacy. He's also ceased doing editorial comments for the news station."

Isn't that totally against FCC rules?

If you check out his mayoral website, you'll see that all of this is being done by "Friends of Ed Bradley". Bradley, himself has never confirmed that he's running for mayor.

No, believe it or not, it is not a violation of Federal guidelines.

I think the people of Shreveport should look at how he has run a TV station. My question is if he has trouble running and producing a good product for the viewing public why should these people in Shreveport think he can run an entire city.

Something must be in the air in that state. Do only "BOZO's" try to get elected. Look at the mayor of New Orleans. He should not be allowed to be a dog catcher,I will not get into his running of the city and his MOUTH.

the campaign is already underway. expect the official annoucement in february. bradley's already been criticized by the times--and rightly so--for staying on at ksla even though he's clearly running an unofficial campaign, complete with website, bumper stickers, and underhanded and unseemly campaign tactics. case and point: an recent ad in the shreveport sun, the city's black paper, which calls any black who supports jerry jones, the white, republican frontrunner to date, a 'sambo' and 'aunt jemima' and goes as far as to threaten 'retribution' to any blacks supporting or even talking to white candidates. the ad is authorized by 'don johnson,' which is unfortunately a surname often used by willie bradford, a prominent bradley supporter. bradley opponents need not worry. his campaign is self-destructing before it's even officially underway thanks to the same overzealousness and sloppy politics that have hamstrung other black candidates from getting elected in shreveport, which is, of course, more than 50 percent black.

I agree, every day KSLA gets worse. If he can't run a TV station I dont think he could run the city.

Ed Bradley plans to officially announce for mayor on Feb. 7. He has said that when he makes it official that he is running for mayor, he is going to walk out the door at KSLA-TV. Most political observers do not believe he has a shot at winning unless state Rep. Cedric Glover, another black, does not run. Bradley's new website is www.edbradley06.com.

I think it's about time a good business man sticks his neck out and help Shreveport. For someone to step down from such a prestigous job to run this city is to be commended. We're proud of you Ed. He has my vote and lots of others too! It's about time a good honest business minded-man with integrity run this city. I think we're in for a good 8 years! Watch out now!

Come on now, he's a businessman and that what Shreveport needs especially at this time with the huge deficit!!! We're tired of politicans - too many favors owed and too many folk in their pockets. And he DID run a good business at 12 - that's why they were No.1. So stop your hating! Wake up and smell the coffee!

Hey while this is waaay late to post, I came across this old employee memo posting from former gm Ed Bradley who got less than what 7% of the vote when he ran for mayor. This memo would've got "other gm's" fired but for some strange reason, Raycom kept Ed at the reins. Read this and you'll get a good feel for what this guy is all about:

Re: Dressing correctly for Summer In The Office
* Fabrics should be lightweight, but not transparent. "Cool" does not mean that it's appropriate for a woman to wear a fluid fabric like chiffon, that clings and defines every line of her body. Nor is it acceptable for a man to wear a see-through shirt that shows every hair on his naked chest.
* Underwear is a Must. Keeping cool does not give an employee license to look as though he or she is dressed for bed in an unairconditioned room.
* Long shorts are okay on Friday dress-down day, short shorts are not. A man wearing short shorts to his office is probably someone who has spent a great deal of time admiring himself in mirrors. A woman wearing short shorts to the office can be thought of as a person who might want to earn some extra money on the side.
These are, as you may deduce, my very personal feelings about the subject of dressing. But I ask you, is there anything more impressive, more dignified, more pleasant to behold than a well-dressed man or woman in any type of business, in any climate, at anytime of the year. If you dress like a million dollars, people think of you in those terms. Why value yourself at any less?

This is probably the last thing we'll ever hear about former GM/VP of KSLA Ed Bradley who ran for Shreveport mayor's job and lost badly!! He didn't even pull in 15% of the vote.

He was planning to launch a niche' oriented magazine for Af. Americans in Shreveport but no one came up with any investment, ad dollars or interest. So his schmancy house is for sale (greatly reduced I'm told) and he's no where to be found. Word has it that he folded his leather pants and took his smart ass out of town. Good riddance cuz he was a bully and an asshole to his employees....and that was on a good day.

He'd be lost if he didn't have a copy of Bartlett's Famous Quotations.

Former KSLA VP & GM Ed Bradley is now selling used cars off Hwy 75 in Plano-Richardson area of Dallas, TX. It's true.
