"Lost" Gets Lost on KATV

There's an article in today's Arkansas D/G about the situation KATV faces over airing college basketball when the popular program "Lost" is suppose to be on. Well it seems "Lost" fans will be able to watch the program on KATV, BUT you will have to stay up late. Below are the highlights from the article:

> Lost finally returns with two episodes beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. The first is a compilation episode to catch viewers up since the show’s been off for a while. The 8 p.m. offering will be a fresh, all-new regular episode never before seen. The bad news is if you watch Lost on KATV, you’ll get SEC basketball instead. Alabama and Auburn fans will be happy, but Lost fans will be fuming.

> Lost fans will get to see their show. It’ll be late, late at night unless they record it for viewing at a more convenient time. Wednesday’s 7 p.m. compilation episode will air after Jimmy Kimmel at 12:35 a.m. Thursday morning (considered Wednesday late night in the TV biz). Wednesday’s all-new 8 p.m. episode will air at 12:35 a.m. Friday morning.

>On Jan. 18 ABC plans to air this week’s new 8 p.m. episode at 7 p.m. followed by an all-new episode at 8. KATV will air the Jan. 18 new (8 p.m.) episode at 12:35 a.m. Jan 19 after Kimmel.

That’s KATV’s Lost plan beginning Jan. 18 — that week’s new episode will air that same TV cycle night at 12:35 a.m.

According to KATV programmer Richard Farrester, Channel 7 has taken steps to keep the fans of Invasion happy as well.

Invasion follows Lost at 9 p.m. Wednesday. If a basketball game runs long, Channel 7 will air Invasion in its entirety and push the 10 p.m. news back.

Should that happen, Raymond will absorb the cuts at 10:30, meaning Nightline will start on time, Kimmel will start on time, and the delayed Lost episode will start on time at 12:35 a.m.

It still wouldn't be in HD because KWBF dosent' broadcast and HD or a full power digital signal.

I'll have to attempt to pull in WABG-DT from Greenwood/Greenville, MS if I have any hope of seeing Lost in HD.

(BTW, I'm in SE Ark)

How soon we forget----last February, after much public outcry, Dale Nicholson came on air to proclaim to the masses how Ch 7 would no longer step-on ABC primetime programming with SEC basketball. He went on to say that Ch 7 had invested "millions of dollars" in new technology to alleviate the problem. But from where I sit, that promise has not materialized, and CH7 will again step on ABC prime! Now "Pard", why make a promise if you can't deliver?

What are the folks in northeast Arkansas doing with KAIT or the folks in northwest with KPOM/KHOG? I seem to recall that KAIT in Jonesboro carries the Arkansas Razorback basketball as well when KATV does.

I'd like to get "Lost" on an island with Beth Hunt or Jessica Morkert or Anne Pressly ! But not all three... nobody is enough man for that.

Leland is enough man for that!

I used to think KATV really had one up on the other stations with HOG B-Ball. But now it is more evident that building a good audience with shows like CSI is where the real #'s are. Sorry Pard, fast money for Hog sponsors won't ever make up for giant #'s like CBS delivers in prime...and it does it every week. You can't J.I.P. 20/20 and expect viewers to hang on.

After what happened to George Flickinger at KFSM, maybe Sully or Randy Dixon should get the axe for cutting into network programming. How bout that "Pard"?

KATV"s traditional way of doing things have been hijacked by two recent events: the rise of ABC's primetime programming (Lost, DH, etc); and the adoption of HDTV slowly in the mainstream. Yes, KATV was an early adopter of HD, but did a minimal commitment (the DTV transmitter is low power and coverage), and since local HD stations are not available on many cable systems, OTA reception is critical. An irony considering the powerful coverage of KATV's analog (ch 7) station and its cable carriage statewide.

What the hell is KATV thinking??? Now, I am waiting for Lost and instead I am watching some gangsta sing "touching" over and f'n over on the Jimmy K show. On top of that somebody in audio is more drunk than the Perminator and they don't have his mic up on his severe weather cut-in... alright that's really not a complaint. But, if you set your Tivo for "Lost" tonight, you won't be seeing the last 20 minutes!!! Thanks KATV. I honestly hope you choke on your b-ball revenue!!

Ratings Proven... Award Winning... but we can't quite figure out how to fix the audio at the end of "Lost." "Suck on it Trebek!"

Has anyone gotten an answer from Ch. 7 about what happened to Dale Nicholson's promises of last year? And last night's show was a disaster, with it starting 20minutes later than the published starting time. They're killing me. Please send angry letters and emails to the ABC network to let them know how disrespectful one of their affiliates are treating their viewers. And boycott all Ch. 7 local broadcasts.

BTW, Invation wasn't in HD either. Oh, I get it, it was time shifted which KATV isn't able to record in HD. Wonder if GMA will show up in HD when the central time zone HD feed is introduced. Probally not.

UPDATE: Attempt at getting WABG from Lincoln co. was pretty poor. Many breakups, and would see the picture (IN HD) for short periods, then losing it it for a time. Gave up 20 min later (first hour) to catch another program, then returned at 8pm for new LOST episode. Same thing, grrrrrrrrrrr.

I HATE KATV! Oops, I may have mixed my words... I HATE YOU CHANNEL 7. To slut yourself out for b-ball money and completely screw over another episode of "Lost." The series ironically just won a Golden Globe... yet poor decision-makers on local television decide "Hey, lets replace "Lost" with a basketball team that has absolutely no ability to play with a round object..." (or, for that matter, keep a lead). With all my heart... I HATE YOU.

Uncle Dale doesn't care about you or anybody other than Dale... and money. He's quite arrogant and pretty much a jerk. He thinks he's a God of local tv.

You have lost your minds replacing the hottest show on TV with basketball games. Will try to avoid your station as much as possible in the future. You guys really suck.
