Monroe Met Gets the Boot

From the tip jar:

Monroe/El Dorado Meteorologist Tom Pearson, who's worked since the early 90's at both KTVE and KNOE, was let go by Hoak-owned KNOE yesterday. He recently got his real estate license and guess Hoak brass didn't cotton to his new gig.

Hoak was probably looking for a reason to get rid of him. They've run a quality, family-owned station into the ground. Every employee is miserable. KTVE has clearly become the better news operation in that market. They've ran a wealth of news experience (over 50 years worth) out of the business.

If this new real estate gig doesn't work out for Tom, he can do like many of his former KNOE co-workers and go to work at KTBS in Shreveport.

Hoak should put them up for sale. Hopefully someone good like Raycom or Gray would get them though...

Smart move on his part. Never get rich working for the "man" especially in tv or radio.

That right Mr Anonymous..If you have checked the News ratigs out lately KNOE is back to their dominating ways ..In some newcasts they have a 10-1 adavnatge over KTVE,,I guess that success for you. What is occuring is because of the recent quality anchor and reportier hires plus the first real news director this market had had in 10years

there is only one legitimate news operation in Monroe and its KNOE..Newscast of the year in Loiusiana. This guy Pearson was as boring as it gets because he was another flunky KNOE hired from KTVE/KARD

This is one of the top CBS affilliates in the country and their on air product looks like a major market. this station was almost run into the ground by previous management , plus they compete against Nexstar so there is still alot of upside

sounds like it was written by an ex KNOE news talent. Most of the ex KNOE news employees that went to KTBS , KNOE was happy they left. You know whats interesting about most news people? Why do they make comments about ratings and viewership when most of them do not have the mathe skills to understand anything inside of a rating book?

The quality family owned run station you speak of was a dysfunctional rudderless disaster waiting to happen until recent management and Hoak took it over. This station was getting so bad that a Nexstar station was actually making some inroads in the news ratings..Now that for us in the know just does not happen in this business. It needed to be cleaned up and its not over yet. Most of the people were in jobs and thought they were entitled to their job by just showing up..if thats what you called what they were doing. Now its run by management that holds them accontable(a novel thought) and the rats are leaving the ship. This is truely one of the great tv stations in America and its getting better everyday as these malcontentents are leaving. Written by a current employee...

Don't get to comfortable. You, like all other current KNOE employees, are a future former KNOE employee.

The funniest thing I have read all day is someone writing that KNOE looks like a major market. Their main male anchor can't read without stumbling and looks like a robot when he doesn't stumble. Their female main anchor is attractive but seems flimsy. They are not comparable to previous talent, who had years of experience on them. Their reporters are not terrible, but have not been trained in proper newsreading delivery so it seems like they are all still in college, not fresh out of it like they should be.

If he was fired, why was he on the air last night?

KNOE also has a crappy VHF OTA signal post-transition. But since most sheeple get TV via cable or Dish, DirecTV....

Better hours, more money, less pressure. Shows he is not a prima dona like most on-air people. Made a very wise move.

Wouldn't it be great if Arkansas TV was like this where they aren't sniping and airing their dirty laundry and immaturity and lack of self-esteem for the world to see?

Is Tom still being seen on the air?

He was still on the air Monday night (8/12)
