Rumors Abound in Looming Allbritton Sale

Could Nexstar be willing to sale KARK to get its hands on KATV?  Well it could be the plan. Days ago NBC execs were in town visiting the station and rumor has it Nexstar could be selling the station so it can get it hands on the Little Rock market leader KATV.  KATV along with all other Allbritton tv properties are up for sale and coming on Monday we will find out just who is bidding for the stations.  TV Newscheck reports there will likely be two bidders.  WJLA/Channel 7/Washington DC will likely be sold separately as it is Allbritton's biggest broadcast property.

TV Newscheck speculates, "Other possible bidders for Allbritton (possibly including WJLA), are Sinclair, Nexstar, Hearst, LIN, Meredith, Raycom, Scripps and Tribune. A key consideration is the duopoly potential in Allbritton's other markets: Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 42), Harrisburg, Pa. (DMA 43), Little Rock, Ark. (DMA 56), Tulsa, Okla. (DMA 59), Roanoke, Va. (DMA 68), and Charleston, S.C. (DMA 98). "

We will have to wait and see, it should be interesting.

Hmm...didn't know that

In other words, a dream scenario for THV.

I can't see them selling KARK though, I'm sure they will create or find a new shell company to hold their 5th station and hold a quintopoly.

That is very plausible and very probable.

If Nexstar does sell KARK, do the intend on leaving the hub intact, move it, or dissolve it and return master control, traffic, and the business office back to their original stations?

Oh boy! This is going to be rich. KARK management running the show at KATV. Wow!

And, the above poster's question is interesting.

12:29,
Nobody cares about master control. All we care about is what is going to happen to Jessica Dean.

Sorry about that.

It appears that Allbritton will be broken up like Newport was. I would see Nexstar getting Tulsa and Sinclair or Hearst getting Katv.

12:29 AM: Nexstar isn't about to sell KARK. They've got too much riding on that station as a regional broadcast hub. It would be too difficult and expensive to part with KARK...at least for now.

Who cares if Allbritton breaks up? Are you scared your friends in Harrisburg won't send christmas cards?

At 1:54 PM, July 21, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@12:28 AM No, it's not all about Jessica Dean. She will do like everyone else and move on to another station in another market. A year or two later if you bring up her name people will say "Jessica who?"

Ideally Hearst should get Tulsa and KATV. Group them together with OKC and Fayetteville stations and you've got great opportunities for synergy.

2:06pm Great point I forgot about Hearst and OKC! And they are all are ABC. I think ABC would like that

If Hearst gets it look for huge talent cuts.

At 4:59 PM, July 21, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well with the amount of anchors at katv who work half days every day, could you blame them?

At 9:34 PM, July 21, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sinclair will get KATV and hub them out of OKC, look for the station to relocate to a newer smaller office after the cuts.

What will happen to Beth Hunt?

Most viewers could care less about master control. Give mammaw her Wheel and her Ned.

"look for the station to relocate to a newer smaller office after the cuts"

How will the mice, rats and mold in the current location find nourishment?

Dude, no one cares about Ned anymore. That generation is dying off. He's just a creepy old fake tanned guy now.

I could see the new owners getting rid of Beth's position. No reason Alyson can't do the noon show. And of course no reason Christina can't do the 5. But they could also keep her and lose either of the other girls.

Well look at the time! The morning show gossips are all done with their shows... Here comes the speculation.

At 9:37 AM, July 22, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think it's so gossipy to point out that there are two part time anchor girls who are paid as full time.
New owners will notice that too. Pard's protection is gone.

If Hearst gets their hands on KATV, or any other company (other than perhaps Sinclair) with no presence in Little Rock, job cuts aren't exactly likely since there is nothing for them to merge with.

If Nexstar takes over and makes it a quintopoly, then definitely they should be updating their resumes and preparing for work somewhere else.

How could anyone possibly believe that NBC would actually buy up KARK? Not only has no network has bought a station in years, possibly decades, most have been on a selling spree. And you think they would suddenly reverse course for the sake of a #2/#3 station in Arkansas? What's more, all of the talent's contracts are with Nexstar, not KARK. That means if NBC did buy them, the talent would all move to the new KATV-Fox16 combo and NBC would have to start the station over from scratch both in front of and behind the camera. Seriously, what are you smoking that you would believe that would EVER happen?

Back on Allbritton: they will not break up the TV properties unless there is absolutely no other way to ditch them. If they do break them up, they'll face tax penalties that will eat into their big pay day.

if the new owners get rid of Hunt 4/16 or 11 Should hire her as quick as possible

The biggest scenario would be Raycom. Little Rock is probably the largest mid-major market without a Raycom station.

I don't think Beth is on her way out. More likely one of the other two. I wouldn't hope for any cuts, but must agree new owners will see the random extra female anchor as an easy way to save on salaries.

What do you mean nobody cares about Ned anymore? Yeah, he is letting his hair get longer and the 50 something years of tanning is taking its toll. But last time I checked, KATV was still number one. I think Ned needs to age gracefully, i.e. get a hair cut.

Have any of you heard of Tom Skilling at WGN?

WBMA's Chief Meteorologist James Spann has said some very interesting comments about the sale. He is one of the most respected meteorologists in the country. He believes Allbritton's sale will mean he may have to leave that station because he believes there will be cuts in funding for the weather department and he won't have the control he has had. If you knew how James Spann is regarded, this could mean something for KATV.

I don't match Ned Perme. I've heard too many people talk about how rude he is to people in public.

At 8:22 AM, July 23, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The years of heavy drinking between shows are taking their toll on Ned and his delivery. He's lost it and is a train wreck during severe weather, which is the only time most people care about it.

Saying KATV being in first place equates to everyone loves Ned is a tired idea.

Disney/ABC will get WJLA. There's no way around that. It's part of their contract with ABC that they have the right to veto a sale. Where the rest of the stations will go is pure speculation and BS from people that don't have a clue.

When you say that they will create a "hub" what does that mean?

At 2:53 PM, July 25, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It means create a hub, Retard.

This hubs for you.

At 10:11 PM, July 25, 2013, Anonymous Craig said...

Rumblings are abound, at least from WJLA, that Hearst is buying them all.

That would create a large cluster in the region with KHBS/KHOG, KOCO and KTUL, plus not too far away WAPT, WDSU and KMBC. That would probably be an excellent situation for KATV...

This is for the retard. They are "mean" number 3:

hub
[huhb] Show IPA noun, verb, hubbed, hub·bing.

1.
the central part of a wheel, as that part into which the spokes are inserted.
2.
the central part or axle end from which blades or spokelike parts radiate on various devices, as on a fan or propeller.
3.
a center around which other things revolve or from which they radiate; a focus of activity, authority, commerce, transportation, etc.: Chicago is a railroad hub.
4.

5.

DCRTV is saying that it's between Hearst and Sinclair.

Please be Hearst! Don't want to deal with Sinclair.

According to Newsblues, employees at WCIV in Charleston were told to prepare for Sinclair ownership. I find it possible that Sinclair will get WCIV (since it is owned by an entity separate from Allbritton and Sinclair already runs the FOX station there) and the rest of the stations go to Sinclair. Just more speculation...

^ ...should say "and the rest of the stations will go to Hearst"...not Sinclair.
