Rumors Alive in Allbritton Sale

Rumors and speculation is running wild in just what entity will be buying up the Allbritton Communications properties.   Here are just a number of them making the rounds on the blog DCRTV:

** All stations are likely to go to one owner due to tax considerations.

***ABC/Disney not buying WJLA/Channel 7/DC.  It's speculation ABC/Disney doesn't want the other smaller Allbritton properties.

***  Is the sale between Tribune and Sinclair? Hearst?  Hearst was touring WJLA last week.  Could be who knows!

According to information I've seen on the web there is no timetable for Allbritton to announce the winner bidder...if one even exists.  I guess we are gonna have to wait and see!

"Rumors and speculation is running wild"

Very poor grammar. Replace "is" with "are in this situation.

"There are rumors, and speculation is running wild."

This is another alternative.

It ain't a rumor. Sinclair is the soon to be owner.

Can you say good bye Mr. Rose. Sinclair likes their people at the top. I'm going to enjoy watching this go down.

I'm sure they are REALLY happy today at THV. I wonder if they are planning an aggressive move to try to hire some KATV people that may get laid off as a result?

That's funny Craig. Gannett is probably happy because they won't have to work as hard and pay people less.

Once Sinclair takes over the term KGOP will most definitely apply. Sinclair makes Fox news look liberal.

Now the real questions.

Who will they keep? Sinclair has a rep for doing everything on the cheap. They keep paying two weather guys "chief met" money? Gut sports to a bare minimum?

I feel for those working at KATV. With this transaction, they've gone from some of the best owners to, arguably, the worst.

Since KATV has been fat and lazy for so long, it will be good to see some people actually having to think about doing the best job they can for the first time in years, or for some decades.

However, anyone with over ten years there will have to prove their worrh. In other words, they'll have to do like you and I do in the real world.

Don't worry for people like Ned and Sully, although Sinclair has fired... eh, released... people more popular and entrenched than they are.

The people who would really worry are the Rusty's and veteran photogs, who don't deserve the years they've truly worked and sweated (maybe not Rusty) and now have to worry.

It's like the love of your life that you've been married to for 30 years getting dementia. The cruel world of broadcasting will come to roost in Little Rock.

photogs that don't edit will be photogs that don't have a job.

What I would expect from Sinclair...

They're keep one high-paid/experienced anchor and do the best with as cheaply as possible.

They'll use the political money and high ratings from KATV and their other recent top-rated purchases to pop up their bountiful bottom feeders. Until Sinclair's recent buying spree, they were mostly third and fourth-rated newsrooms.

I wonder if christina or beth would be cheaper to keep

Hey at least now you will be able to watch Ring of Honor Wrestling on KATV. Sinclair owns that too and makes all its stations place it.

Hey maybe that mover reviewer Reene can jump in the ring...LOL

I guess 7 on your side is about over. No way they'll pay to keep that franchise going.

KATV may have died with ole pard ... only time will tell.

At 10:20 PM, July 29, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Most worker bees that can't be centralized will be ok. Overpaid anchors will be downsized and managers will be replaced with Sinclair people... most likely from the GM down as far as the EP, if they adhere to their past practices.

Attention Management! Get out while you can.

IT'S BROADCASTING!

At 7:51 AM, July 30, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They may keep 7 On Your Side as a franchise name, but they will not have an experienced reporter who's paid like a grown-up do it.

As far as anchors, yes they will be slashed. Anyone casually looking at how many they have can see an easy way to save money that way.

One doesn't normally think of producers when talking about cuts, but KATV is unique in having so many people working on their morning show. One or two producers might be cut and anchors will be asked to help produce the show as in their other markets.

At 9:57 AM, July 30, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The winner will be 11.

Not just in eventual ratings with 7's inevitable decline under Sinclair but everyone's operating costs will go down. The salaries for anchors will flatline if Gannett is the only non-slasher in the market. Now 11 can pay whatever they want and say "try and get more to work for Nexstar or Sinclair."

At 2:11 PM, July 30, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

11 will not be a big winner. Gannett is just as bad as Sinclair, and as long as they continue to trot out weird looking anchors and green reporters they will continue to get smoked. Little Rock TV now has arguably the three worst ownership groups in America...what a shame.

What do some of the anchors make in LR? I wouldn't think morning anchors make much.

Some make big money, but others not so much. There is inequity.aoa

At 9:48 AM, August 02, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It depends on what they or their agents can negotiate. It was easier to get the big money years ago, because Pard was so talent friendly. Compare KATV to the competition and you'll see a lot more people who have stuck around because he made it so attractive. Those days are at an end.

Agents? You're joking right? Nobody has agents, they'd be stupid if they did.

At 4:59 AM, August 03, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, agents in the LR market would be stupid -beyond stupid!

At 7:20 AM, August 03, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Pard was too talent friendly. And lots of those gIrls only had their jobs because he was rubbing one out to them.
