Veteran Shreveport Journalist Passes Away

The Shreveport Times reports longtime Shreveport journalist Jim Montgomery passed away.  The article says Montgomery served as a newscaster and reporter for KTBS/Channel 3 in 1968.  After leaving Channel 3 Montgomery served as editor of a couple of publications in Shreveport and served as executive director of the Beaird Foundation, the philanthropic and charitable organization founded by the late Charles T. Beaird, Shreveport financier, capitalist, philanthropist and former Shreveport Journal publisher.

Montgomery would never make it in local broadcast news today. He was too smart and way too ethical for the bottom feeding tv conglomerates that pollute the business today.

How sad. Jim was a true broadcaster and journalist.

Jim was truly was a fine gentleman and a great asset to Shreveport. He will be greatly missed.

A few years back, I ran into Jim at a local public event. He introduced me to his friends with the comment that we had worked together at The Times "back when it was a real newspaper".

He always had a sharp wit.
