KTAL ADDS New Reporters to Roster
A tipster informed ATN, KTAL hires two new reporters. Elbony Wilcott and Alese Underwood joined the team this week. Both seem to be good additions to that team.
From what I can gather from the web, Alese comes to Shreveport from the Nexstar station WJET, the FOX affiliate in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Elbony Wilcott, if my information is correct, use to work at KSLA in Shreveport.

Wish them well.
According to this blog, Wilcott quit KSLA without notice in may of 2007.
Drove by channel 6 last night and something was going on outside. Tents and lots of people. Was that for Olympics? I didnt watch today to see if they'd mention it.
They had an Olympics premiere party.
The party was also to show off all the improvements. New set, new news room, new control room ect...
I hope these new reporters do well at KTAL. Maybe they will actually stick around for a while.
I love the way KTAL just cut off NIck in mid-sentnce to air an end 60 break in the 6:00. Nice to see news being over sold again. Guess they need to make everything they can for the next two weeks during the Olympics.
Yeah, I saw that myself. Very sloppy.
Some please tell Michelle the name of bridge she was referring to is NOT London Bridge. It is Tower Bridge which is in front of the Tower of London.
London Bridge depends on who you talk to. The "original" was sold to an Arizona land developer in Lake Havasu City, AZ. It was dismantled and shipped piece-by-piece and reassembled in Arizona in the early 70's. The Tower Bridges are often mistaken for London Bridge as are other bridges. But hey... nobody really cares anymore I suppose, certainly not today's "journalists".
You got that right. Lets not do our job and check our facts first. Lets just report incorrect information. Just a simple Google or Wikipedia search and solve all that.
Yeah, I know about the original London Bridge in Lake Havasu City AZ. I saw it and had my picture taken on it back in the early 80's.
I hope these new reporters are much better then what KTAL normally hires. I saw Elbony reporting the other day but I do not remember here on KSLA. Was she there very long?
Unless they're promoted to an anchor position, why would they stay any longer than two years contract. Young reporters don't last in this market because they get their experience and move up until they get to their desired position or market. I would question it if a young reporter remained in this market more then two years without a promotion, especially since all the stations are MMJ's now.
9:37 PM:
As you probably know, so-called "news anchors" are really little more than meat-puppets in front of the camera who basically read whatever is on the prompter. From what I gather, they do very little real journalism as their function is to read without stumbling and sound half-way articulate while reading whatever some editorial assistant (read: low-paid producer) writes for the feed.
I see Chris has moved over to KPXJ. Has Mark hired his replacement as GSM?
Alese is hot redhead! Love her! Hopefully she sticks around for a while.
What other changes does KTAL have in store? These new repoters seem to be alright and very easy to look at.
Dunno but if KTAL keeps improving things, KSLA & KTBS could see a dip in their ratings/shares come next November.
I have no doubt about that 3:01 PM. They just need to keep working on better on-air talent, and promos.
KTAL seems to still have audio issues. Whenever they run a local 6pm news promo in the network break, the audio goes to crap. The music bed is too damn loud and Nick or MeeShell's voice is muted. What's the deal KTAL? Someone in MCO needs their hearing tested?
10:40 PM You are right about that audio problem on some of their promos. I have seen, or should I say heard that myself. Thats not the MCO's fault. It's the promotions department in Shreveport's fault. KTAL produces those promos in Shreveport then transfer them in to they lineup in Little Rock as is.
To be honest KTAL's promos have never been that great to begin with. They run the same ones over and over. Maybe they should consider replacing everyone in promotions or consolidate that department to the hub.
I just can't understand why they can't get the audio issue fixed. This has been an ongoing problem with KTAL. The local promos inserted in the NBC Network News block have always had audio issues. Does the GM or ND watch these? At my station, they'd be raising some serious holy hell about this and it would be addressed.
Evidently Mark and Chris don't watch or care. If they did it would not continue to happen every day.
To 6:44 PM
The audio problem in the 6:00 PM news cut-ins durning NBC Nightly News is productions fault. They slap the cut-ins together then transfer them directly to Little Rock. The audio levels check out here, but the problem seems to occur during the transfer process between Shreveport and Little Rock.
Yep...those Auto Gain Limiters & Auto Compression settings. They "Oughta" work but they seldom do. Keep things from peaking but as for the mix, that's another story!
Does KTAL have any numbers on the Olympics yet? NBC's coverage sucks so I'm watching it live online.
I don't think KTAL / Nexstar "subscribes" to ratings as they've been in last place for so long. Maybe in a year or two they might pay for the privilege of saying: "We're closing the GAP!"
NBC Network is another story. You may google it and see if there are any preliminary reports.
No more Elbony. After just two plus weeks, she is already leaving. Not sure why...
WOW, two weeks in and Elbony's had enough already? What you all doing over there?
Probably asked her to change her name? Can U say: Lane Lucky?
Just a guess.
Think she's got a higher paying gig. Only One more week until another reporter leaves. An anchor is on his or her way out the door as well.
Oh really, who else is leaving?
What happened to KTAL in Texarkana? Have not been in the area for awhile but looks like their studios have moved.
Yes, do tell. Is that other new reporter leaving already to? Is Michelle or the weekend anchor who is leaving?
To 3:54 PM
KTAL moved the Texarkana bureau to the current Richmond Road location about 3 or 4 years ago. Prior to that they were in Central Mall for several years.
Whoops, scratch that 3:54. I meant to say Summerhill Road, not Richmond Road. Think I'll skip happy hour.
Do they actually utilize the studios in texarkana? or is it just letters on a building.
Just letters on a building.
I think that used to be the old KCMC bldg. back in the 1970's.
Brian uses it for his production work, but it's mostly its just sales people. That's it.
8:10 PM What is this about more people leaving? Who is leaving and are they leaving willingly?
What happened Sunday night during the late news? I turned it on and all I saw was a freeze frame of the 7 day forecast with no audio. Did the weather last night blow you out?
